Slate seemed liked she sucked aside from the tina tina cheneuse sketches but I feel bad kicked out for the kids who get kicked out after one or two seasons, a lot of the people I like on the show took at least a couple of years to really find themselves and start being funny.

That's kind of torturous. xp

Some blog I read (maybe even linked to upthread) said that Armisen's Obama isn't *bad*, but it's also not *funny*. I think Pharoah has the opportunity to make it funny. I'd also argue that he gets the timbre of Obama's voice right, which is the one thing that has always bothered me about Armisen's impression.

jay pharaoh is a supposedly amazing impressionist

the problem with this is that it ruins it to have your first appearance be a lengthy impression -- viewers have never looked at your face or seen you act normal. you're lacking some kind of baseline.
(also is it just me or does SNL go extra lengths for white-people impressions -- makeup, prostheses, etc. -- but for a black person doing an impression of a black person, it's like there's someone over there who just picks out some clothes and goes "oh, that looks great, you totally look black, just like the person you're imitating!")

Paterson jacked up a joke, but I have to give him credit for being exactly as awkward as politicians who are reading off cue cards and didn't have to memorize the whole thing.

yeah i was trying to figure out if pharoah wasnt doing enough for me visually or if it was just weird since i'd never seen him before... it didnt really work for me
