Just seen Gruber backpedal past my window:

In particular, we are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need.

In addition, for the first time we are publishing the App Store Review Guidelines to help developers understand how we review submitted apps. We hope it will make us more transparent and help our developers create even more successful apps for the App Store.

finally!

does anyone have an explanation for Ping? i'm just baffled

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 9 September 2010 14:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Seems to have all the commercialism of itunes plus all the utility of mobile me

mh, Thursday, 9 September 2010 14:27 (thirteen years ago) link

apparently Ping is better suited for iTunes ON IPHONE - shame none of the bands or friends I actually care about are on it.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Thursday, 9 September 2010 14:33 (thirteen years ago) link

ya ping looks terrible. like seems to totally misunderstand social networking stuff.

snrub-n-tug (s1ocki), Thursday, 9 September 2010 14:34 (thirteen years ago) link

lol gruber

caek, Thursday, 9 September 2010 14:36 (thirteen years ago) link

apple have never really got social networking (or "the web" for that matter) but the network effect of ping is going to be pretty fierce

one month passes...

10' Macbook, please:

Apple will be holding a media event titled “Back to the Mac” on October 20. The invitation seems to indicate that the focus of the meeting will be on/around Mac OS X 10.7 — maybe to be called “Lion”? — and the Mac.

former moderator, please give generously (DG), Thursday, 14 October 2010 10:45 (thirteen years ago) link

got my apple tv today, quite nice. this is my first experience with streaming netflix, a bit pixely, probably my bandwidth which is absolutely shitty. nice to finally get around to streaming my itunes library to the stereo, a bit overwhelming, I guess I should really fix those tags. $99 well spent considering all the CDs have to be in storage now (and if I can stand it, sold)

akm, Saturday, 16 October 2010 05:05 (thirteen years ago) link

also, it bears stating again, that there are few things as satisfying and opening and unwrapping new apple products.

akm, Saturday, 16 October 2010 05:05 (thirteen years ago) link

stream's on

iPad features we'd like to bring back to the Mac: Multi-touch gestures, App Store, App Home screens, full screen apps, auto save, auto resume when launching

scotstvo, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Installing apps on the mac was crazy hard before.

schwantz, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:03 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm sure developers will be thrilled at this news

caek, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Well, I guess it's a new channel to sell on, but it also is one where Apple will extract a big piece of their revenue.

schwantz, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:04 (thirteen years ago) link

full screen! I'm going to have to upgrade my ram

Beginning of the end for Mac OS?

schwantz, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:06 (thirteen years ago) link

it'll give some independent Mac developers a wider audience for their stuff

markers, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:06 (thirteen years ago) link

yes, like i say, i'm sure they'll be thrilled

caek, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:06 (thirteen years ago) link

and it's optional, so what could they possibly have to complain about? if you don't like it, don't put your app there, right?

caek, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:07 (thirteen years ago) link

How long until you'll have to jailbreak your mac?

schwantz, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 18:08 (thirteen years ago) link
