intervention had a shermhead on there recently, she had been hooked for nearly 20 years iirc. she was physically intact, at least moreso than you would think from pcps reputation, whoring herself too so who knows; she was dopey-talking all the time to where you thought she was maybe lost, falling over fucked up in the street every night, etc; i think she had a job! she was molested as an adolescent iirc and her mother had never believed her (family friend)and even in the intervention mother was kind of a hardcase, really sad. she got the help, seemed very lucid in the followup segment

Lately, it's sort of come to my attention that PCP is making a comeback or might have simply been present all along.
kkvgz i keep wondering if this is an annapolis-area thing and can't telli def wanna read a book about it, i don't get it. why people would even try it.

'Wet' was fairly popular for a few years. Like late 90s til a couple of years ago. And in the ghetto from what I could tell. Wet is when you dip a cigarette in a PCP-formaldehyde solution and let it dry. Users I observed seemed just totally zoned out and off balance, never aggressive. Why use it? I have no idea. Why huff paint/gas/glue.
If I wanted to feel woozy I'd look for GHB which was pretty great the one time I did it. I wouldn't even know where to look though.

It's not solely an Annapolis-area thing, but I'd wager that there is a relatively high concentration of PCP use out here. I did a Nexis search on the topic and I got newspaper results from the SF Bay Area, Texas, Louisiana, North Carolina, New Jersey, Maine, and many others. My favorite detail was from a Kansas City, Missouri article about DUI stops:
PCP, smelling like ripe fruit floating out of the car, is a favorite.
Anyway, it remains a topic of facination for me.

Also, yeah no doubt most people getting dusted just spend a few hours deep in their heads pretending they're on the Starship Enterprise or whatever, but it seems that, when things go wrong, they go very, very wrong. Also, it seems that there is a level of dependency involved that is not present in other hallucinogens. Maybe that's part of the appeal, that people can do it over and over again, whereas with acid or something, users often feel a need to get their brain straightened back out after the experience.

people develop huge addictions to ketamine...and dxm, which both work similarly on the brain to how pcp does, so yeah.

working with teen addicts, i see it come up every once in a while on a screen. some of these kids are 13, with an incredible amount of drugs in their system. At that age I have no idea what drugs were.

I was sentenced to work project when I got a DUI (BAC .09, good work CHP!) last year, and a lot of the dudes I was working with talked about sherm. The guy who was most vocal about his love for it was a really friendly, if spacey-seeming ~20 year old black guy.
It gets mentioned in rap quite a bit too, but what drug doesn't I guess

I certainly remember PCP being a thing when I was growing up in AA Co. in the 70s and 80s -- there were always weird race/class aspects to the patterns of usage, but there are weird race/class things about every god damn thing in AA Co.

A handful of people got busted for PCP at the beach at the end of my street around 10 a.m. yesterday morning. I was out walking my dogs with my 5-year-old daughter when we came across the scene. All in their 50s and 60s, from the look of them. There were 5 cop cars when we walked past and fire and ambulance showed up later on. I asked one of the cops what was going on and he just told me "we've got some people here who are a few cards short of a deck." At the time, I just thought he meant they were crazy and maybe drunk, but my wife walked down there later and talked to them and they elaborated that it was PCP.
