sorry yeah I just meant in terms of how I think of the word, which I didn't make clear... that said, if (if) that list is a an accurate summation of 20 bigshot producers of 2010 it doesn't say much for the legacy of good and bankable rock qua rock knobtwiddlers, insofar as most of 'em are also dance producers/remixers/dudes who ~make beats~ (eg Geoff Barrow)

like even Ross Robinson is presumably mainly on there because he just did NU RAVE HOPES the Klaxons' second album (which I thought sounded horrible, but I basically hate them so accept that I might not have listened w/ wholly unbiased ears)

Yeah I've no idea who such a list is meant to appeal to, or who is likely to give a shit.

i might be totally out of the loop with him but who does beck produce these days? apart from the tribute albums hes doing through his site and those samey-as-anything scott pilgrim songs.

It's hardly making me want to rush out and buy a copy though NRQ.

and Charlotte Gainsbourg:

Don't ask me when the shit-hot production comes in though.

There's hardly anyone on this list who isn't past their best. Rock-wise, it's all a bit 2005.

Didn't see this, but no Mitchell Froom nor even Nigel Godrich, no credibility. :)

Well, he isn't working anymore, but the two I mentioned are, and Nigel Godrich even works with relevant acts.
