Douglas Wolk, who writes for Spin, apparently either a) knows all
about them, b) knows them, or c) both. I think it's "c".
But they're still sorta together, I think. They're bicoastal now, as
I think Wm. is working at Amoeba records in SF, and the other two are
on the east coast...(again, last I remember or checked.) They
released several records after the "jump back baby" album on Teenbeat
5 years ago, but unfortunately went unnoticed -- one of which was an
instrumental record.
I still cherish "Across the room and into your lap" and "There Was An
elk" though... Many say "Slanted and Enchanted" took the indie record
crown in '92, but there were so many more that deserved it..
like "There was an Elk", Bailter Space's "Robot world",
Kitchen's "Death of Cool"... No idea why I'm so passionate about 1992
right now, but there it is.

Fanks. They were kind of a cute, strange-voiced band. There's
not many of those these days. Well, people might say "Flaming
Lips" but Uncle Wiggly sounded nothing like that... or much else.
There really wasn't much commercial appeal to their stuff, but it
sure is a mess of different, disorienting sounds and emotion. I'm
thinking of "Nostalgia" right now and it's making me nostaligic.
Guess, I'll put it in right after the New Pornographers finishes.

I'm not sure where to put this, so this thread seems like a decent bet. Thanks to the robots of Spotify, just learned that the Uncle Wiggly-related Fly Ashtray had a new album as recently as 2012, and it turns out to be pretty good. Someday I (or someone) should put together a poll of NYC also-ran bands....

!!!!!
That's awesome! Guess I'll have to check it out. Love Uncle Wiggly a bit more than Fly Ashtray but they aren't really different in the end.
