I was all set to say this video is about how great a Daphne & Celeste world would be. But the world has already been D & C-ified: costumes made out of butcher paper; tattoos (?) that resemble Kim Fowley's on the cover of Snake Document Masquerade; rejects from the cast of Forbidden Zone. And where the hell exactly is the elevator?

Lennon & McCartney...

as much as it pains me to say it, my opinion of this is much closer to imago's than "this might as well be pomplamoose" or "it's awful"

rather surprising in a very good way actually. never thought i'd see them do music together again, much less that they'd come back with something this good.

idk who max tundra is but perhaps i should? the production is memorable and beautifully detailed

yep, this is the kind of song i not only enjoy on first listen but instantly want to revisit/reabsorb

As a fan of both Max Tundra and Daphne and Celeste, I find this to be a bit "meh". I think I much prefer this Perfume song which blatantly knocks of off Max Tundra, than Max Tundra working with an actual pop group:

I like the fact that something came out of Max's weekly "hey [Twitter handle], work with me!", I like the un-compromisingly Max lyrics (stuff about synthesis, "The Third Policeman"), the high-heels as high-hats, the uncool chords, and so on, but it does sound kind of diluted, Max Tundra's standard level of weirdo would make for better girl-pop imo

got a long list of ilxors (fgti), Monday, 30 March 2015 12:27 (nine years ago) link

what it loses in 'weird' for the sake of accessibility it makes up for in depth of craft and enthusiasm imo, but yeah I do hope for a whole album of this stuff, with moments of increased intensity

Looking back, though, I think the most exciting thing playing shows around that time was there was a real run-in between Stereophonics, Travis, and Coldplay. No one could tell which one of those very similar bands was gonna come out on top. I’m still surprised Coldplay won that one, I thought it was gonna be Travis.

a.l.t.o. to taking notes is a great run... 16 stars and paint can especially. still not into bb; weird that the two more leaden tracks were the lead-off singles (though i like you & i alone, moreso in album sequence)

main complaint is how their voices are euthanized into anonymity. bothers me a little less if i just think of it as a max tundra record with other voices on it. same with with the lyrics which i've already gone on about.

it's pretty great though :)

I was at that gig too Andrew! Scruffy bloke stood to the side, you probably remember me

This doesn't entirely narrow it down, but I understand there was a lot less of that than the average Max Tundra gig. And several ex-ILXors (with mark s)!

I can hear some of the criticisms of the record (though not of BB, whose only fault is that it stops at the point where it was about to really kick off), but it turns out this is the band that pushes me into the tedious "the record is only a crude effort at the songs, the real act is live" camp.
