Yawn (Wintermute), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:17 (eighteen years ago) link

Swayzak and JLC are the only ones I have so I say those.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Adam Beyer and Audion?
Les Rhythmes Digitales is a good one

ambrose (ambrose), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I would settle for two 50" x 50" prints of the covers for Stacey Pullen and Baby Mammoth.

harshaw (jube), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:41 (eighteen years ago) link

mayer and jlc

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Top three fabric discs are definately Swayzak (11), Mayer (13) and Lu Cont (Live.09).

Audion/Smagghe/Weatherall/Carl Craig etc. are ok, but not as good as some of their other mixes/CDs available.

Fabric.08 Radioactive Man and FabricLive.04 Deadly Avenger are good too.

rchinn (rchinn), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 16:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Lu Cont and Smagghe would be my suggestion

I really like the Weatherall one, and I'm always surprised how little love it get compared to some of the others

Robin Goad (rgoad), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 17:17 (eighteen years ago) link

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 18:28 (eighteen years ago) link

i liked the Herbaliser mix :B

Yawn (Wintermute), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 18:32 (eighteen years ago) link

i loved the Akufen one. and i'm digging the Audion one. can't wait for the Ricardo Villalobos.

youth problem, Wednesday, 15 March 2006 18:55 (eighteen years ago) link

haha. villalobos mix is the mix that will never come. here is the word from the man himself (via his myspace)

"I have a few main labels: Perlon, Playhouse, and a couple owned by friends like Luciano. Perlon and Playhouse are enough: I have so much to do, I have to DJ and produce like hell. It is impossible for me to start a label for example. It's also not necessary. The world of labels will shrink a little bit. The reality is that labels are disappearing, distribution is disappearing, vinyl is getting harder and harder to live with. It's important to give all my energy to Perlon and Playhouse and not somewhere else, I won't go and make an album for another label."

rchinn (rchinn), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 19:44 (eighteen years ago) link

co-sign on bugz, absolutely.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 19:45 (eighteen years ago) link

i hope you dont mean the fake profile on there...of ricardo villalobos

youth problem, Wednesday, 15 March 2006 19:49 (eighteen years ago) link

The AIM one is tremendous - it was a random buy for me too so came as a pleasant surprise

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 19:57 (eighteen years ago) link

Kill me, but I like the James Lavelle one and the Spinbad...alongside the JlC and Akufen

pher (pher), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 20:17 (eighteen years ago) link

yes to Spinbad also, it's ace

Porkpie (porkpie), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 20:45 (eighteen years ago) link

I like the John Peel one. I was intrigued by the Carl Craig one, but figured I could just dig out tapes I have of his DJ sets from the radio some years back. My last mix CD purchase was Andy Votel's Vertigo prog rock mix, which I recommend.

Jeff Sumner (Jeff Sumner), Wednesday, 15 March 2006 22:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Youre probably right. The Villalobos profile on MySpace is likely to dubious. Although, I wanted to believe. :P Herbet one is probably true.

Carl Craig fabric was ok, although I think his Beats in Space mix he did around the same time is far far superior and is one of my favourite mixes of the year.

I couldnt stand the John Peel disc. No flow. No quality in ecclecticism. Honestly listened to it again the other month trying to find a track I liked and maybe found one.

rchinn (rchinn), Thursday, 16 March 2006 00:59 (eighteen years ago) link

cosign on the peel rchinn. OTM completely

pher (pher), Thursday, 16 March 2006 01:19 (eighteen years ago) link

i second Mayer and Diplo

micarl (micarl), Thursday, 16 March 2006 07:10 (eighteen years ago) link

Bent Fabric is v. good, so is Bugz, so is Doc Martin. I love the Mayer disc obv.

I don't listen to the Akufen disc at all really, though the first track is aces.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 16 March 2006 07:26 (eighteen years ago) link

but if you have Mayer's and i were you, i would get Lu Cont and Diplo

micarl (micarl), Thursday, 16 March 2006 07:58 (eighteen years ago) link

do not get the diplo CD. it is so bad.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 16 March 2006 08:15 (eighteen years ago) link

or give it a chance?

micarl (micarl), Thursday, 16 March 2006 08:16 (eighteen years ago) link

the Audion one is the best in a while... although anathema for most people on here.

a, Thursday, 16 March 2006 08:19 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah, we just don't get that kee-razy microhouse shit!

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 16 March 2006 09:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm looking forward to the Audion one.
The Mayer + Radioactive man would be my picks they both blew me away at the time. I'm keen to check out the global communication one too.

Bn1 (Bn1), Thursday, 16 March 2006 09:16 (eighteen years ago) link

so in conclusion..... they're all god. or bad. get them all. or dont bother.

ambrose (ambrose), Thursday, 16 March 2006 09:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Where can I get two for the price of one then? HMV?

file under cozy techno (fandango), Thursday, 16 March 2006 09:45 (eighteen years ago) link

ambrose otm. it's DJ Kicks all over again...

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 16 March 2006 10:53 (eighteen years ago) link

obviously it's not that you don't get it, Vahid. your opinions on 'microhouse' are perfectly valid, and far more nuanced than my own. but... being presumptuous, maybe a full appreciation is a little outside your frame of reference. there can't be many (any?) good all night minimal events in the US, let alone ones with good enough soundsystems or atmospheres (i.e. not New York) to be fully enjoyable. (plus, Villalobos boycott.)

a, Thursday, 16 March 2006 11:44 (eighteen years ago) link

I agree with Vahid, the Diplo one kinda stinks.

There's a maybe three- or four-track section that's pretty awesome though, when it goes from "This is Sick" into "Love Guide" into "What's Your Fantasy" and then into one of the carioca tracks whose name I can't remember.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Thursday, 16 March 2006 13:58 (eighteen years ago) link

the irony is that audion is an american artist! so where'd he learn to spin minimal?

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:02 (eighteen years ago) link

i like the 1st CD of Craig Richards Fabric 15 and the new Carl Craig one (except for the jamz in the middle)

Good Dog (Good Dog), Thursday, 16 March 2006 15:13 (eighteen years ago) link

Dog have you checked the carl craig beats in space mix? Its tight.

Re minimal in America - the We Are Robots crew in NYC put on some pretty good stuff, although not always minimal. They've had Dapayk and Konrad Black (who is Canadian?)

rchinn (rchinn), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:43 (eighteen years ago) link

fourteen years pass...

Historically, the Michael Mayer one has always been my favourite but I've been adoring the Aim one recently (I've always liked it but it has made its way off the shelf to regular play).

Might have banged on about this in other threads.
