Cheap Trick: cool again?

Cheap Trick = fun. I've seen 'em live twice in the past two years, and they're better than 90% of the bands half their age. They had a truly astonishing collection of great fun power pop songs, and they have far better taste than most of their contemporaries ever did. They're amazing and I love them loads. Even if Bun E. looks like Chef Paul Prudhomme, and even if Rick is sporting that stupid-ass ZZ Top goatee, and even if Robin can't hit the high notes in "If You Want My Love" anymore (as if anybody else in the world could have in the first place!), and even if Tom Petersson looks like a casualty rather than a hearthrob (looks cooler now, IMHO!), THEY ARE THE BEST 4-PIECE ROCK BAND THAT AMERICA EVER PRODUCED.

I haven't heard any of the most recent stuff -- much as I adore them first few albums -- so I'm beginning to think I may well have missed something here. They are gods without peer in many ways, I freely agree.

Well, that last studio album (1997's Cheap Trick) had some real moments, and that single they sut with Albini is pretty nice. I'm hoping that Rick's songwriting will be in classic territory for the new release, but frankly I'm not holding my breath. Even as a "hits" act, though, they're loads better than any other band of their vintage. No other band even comes close, IMHO

good way to catch back up with early cheap trick is to buy re-issue of live at budokan _remastered_, which is now _entire_concert_ on _2xCD_ (including two videos from that very gig)

Surely this is not the same George G. who so recently railed against "easy keys" and "4/4"?!!!

oh come on, they're called "cheap trick" !! i've always admired that, even though most new zealanders would think we're talking race horses
