this is some interesting hair-splitting for someone who can't really distinguish the thousand shades of quality and nuance between most Gucci stuff and just gravitates to the obvious standouts. all i know is he hasn't really made any songs on the level of "Lemonade" or "Wasted" this year (although since "Lemonade" charted as a single this year it's definitely gonna be in my top 10)

'dats my life' is just acrobatic rapping & its cool as that but its not even close to his best song! this is what i meant when i talk about songwriting -- his choruses on zone 6, the beats, they're all so dry & flatline compared to 'gross' or 'trap talk' or certainly the best stuff on 'burrrprint.' theres no beat on 'mr zone 6' coming w/in miles of 'my shadow' and no verse is as emotionally compelling as 'frowney face'

hes def made songs better than 'wasted' this year although not nearly as many that would appeal to as wide an audience

like you can call "dats my life" 'too writerly' or w/e too tom b snarl-rasp but like that beat + those verses are as good as shit like "excuse me" & "trap goin crazy" (which i love)

yeah i'm not talking about strictly about song quality but about memorable songs that feel like hits (beyond like Trey Songz sings on this so radio plays it etc.). although i guess i'm one of the only people here that's always really liked "Makin Love To The Money". and i always do year-end singles lists based on when a song was a hit, doesn't matter if i had an album it was on the previous year, don't know what's corny about that.

its alive is my favorite verse of his this year -- incredible stuff. i also think that drumma boy track that just got a video is pretty epically great

y'know i'm not sure if i have heard "It's Alive" -- nobody made The Appeal sound too erm appealing but i guess that is one song people recommend from it

there are some totally dope beats on 'jewelery selection' like "first song back" & "electricity" but the "gross" beat is incredibly generic

and i always do year-end singles lists based on when a song was a hit, doesn't matter if i had an album it was on the previous year, don't know what's corny about that.

man couldnt disagree more -- the strings & effects are coca coca level dark

stuff on the appeal that's as good as anything gucci has ever done -- "what's it gonna be", "it's alive"

it's 'popism' not insecurity -- i don't put album cuts on singles lists as a protest of indie fuxx who fill their P&J ballots with non-hits, i stick to singles, and a lot of songs don't become hits until the year after they appear on an album.

the second level of stuff is like: "trap talk", "party animal" (pretty dope "wasted" rip off if you ask me), "odog" (at least until wyclef takes over the last three minutes), "dollar sign"

my favourite thing about 'gross' is gucci flirting w that lady and making her laugh (i mean, really, really gross) in the intro

its chart impact was all 2010, i didn't hear it on the radio in non-Gucciland until January

i still dont understand how having heard it on the radio makes it ok to vote for it now but whatever. its the same song then that it was when you first heard it.

in December 2009 when i was doing my year-end lists, "Wasted" was the single I'd been listening to all year and had had in my top 10 for a while, "Lemonade" was my favorite song on an album that had just dropped that month and it wasn't clear whether it was going to be a radio single or just a song that happened to have a video on YouTube and get talked about as an album standout.

yeah i'm not saying it doesn't 'qualify' where like i would've said pshhhh album track you lame to someone who had it on an '09 list, i just personally prioritize things differently.

we're not talking about a sitch like "Throw Some D's" where that song was EVERYWHERE by the end of '06 but for some reason some lames thought of it as an '07 song

gross kinda stands apart from the other word songs but i've come to love it. whereas weirdo seems like a really second rate one of those to me.

revisit 'whats it gonna be' again for real.

yeah 'whats it gonna be' is def my fav on appeal. i massively enjoyed zone 6 + jewellery selection more than most stuff this year so i'm not getting on board with any of this peaking stuff.

he had so much more stuff in in '08 and '09. idk i argued this in my review of the album but i feel like hes been hidden from us
