at first I was cringing at that nightmarish list of collaborators, but then I saw he's working with El DeBarge and perked right back up!

btw, did anyone catch him hanging out in the studio for a few hours on KPFA last friday. hes still "got it" as much as any artist 1/3 his age..incredible...half-mc-ing-half-singing at double tempo over old funk and disco records...and all sorts of anchovy pussy.... he mentioned something about an upcoming "techno-doowop" album, which might seem like sound like some sort of pipe dream except that he said he loves techno (and headlined at DEMF), and when some doowop records came on, he sang along and didnt miss a word...
bernie was in the house too, apparently the mothership is being prepared for liftoff...

Does anyone have any of this?

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Monday, 30 June 2008 05:01 (fifteen years ago) link

The KPFA stuff, that is.

Jesus, there had to have been a better-named Clinton thread to revive than this one.

This thread sucks.

Anyhow, he is almost 81, spends half the performance sitting down yet is still one of the greatest performers I've ever seen.

People were SHRIEKING with joy during Maggot Brain.

The "Tales from the Back of the Tour Bus" about George Clinton is just epic.

xxxp Same here. It also had a proud papa vibe to it, like he had quite a few sons and grandsons there (including one who flew in from L.A. just to be there) and he was beaming the whole time, like "my boys turned out great, didn't they? They've done me proud!" By the end, I could see this being like the Sun Ra Arkestra, still laying down the funk long after Clinton has left us.
