v nice krakow. walking home at 3am or so last night i was sad to have used all of my disposable camera photos on people sitting around doing not much. now we have about six inches over here and it's both lovely and, when huge sheets fall off of the roofs, kinda terrifying.

(also encountered the loudest and freakiest thunderstorm i'd ever heard last night. and so did all of my friends who were woken by it. <3 u mad weather.)

oh i didn't hear that.

jed_, Sunday, 28 November 2010 17:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Me neither.

I think I'm going to try cycling to a gig in the west end tonight. The main roads look clear but wet.

krakow, Sunday, 28 November 2010 17:44 (thirteen years ago) link

oh no, i'm in dundee, sorry. shamefully using the glasgow thread as a scotland-wide thread here.

gonna go start a dundee thread and talk to myself.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Sunday, 28 November 2010 17:58 (thirteen years ago) link

i dunno, maybe some dundonian junkie will keep off selling a laptop he's burgled off someone long enough to stumble across ilx.

rappa ternt sagna (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 28 November 2010 18:10 (thirteen years ago) link

just thinking about dundee has me googling mcgonagall:

Ye sons of Great Britain, I think no shame
To write in praise of brave General Graham!
Whose name will be handed down to posterity without any stigma,
Because, at the battle of El-Teb, he defeated Osman Digna.

Wow, look at the Park! Which bit was that pic taken, over on the golf course?

Madchen, Sunday, 28 November 2010 21:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, over the far side, but at the top of the hill. It was completely untouched over there. I went tramping across acres of totally virgin snow on the golf course, even at midday. Awesome!

two weeks pass...

i can't compete w krakow, but glasgow green was beautiful and wintry today:

The sunset this afternoon was stupendous. I was cycling back from Coatbridge to the East End and had to pull over to watch it across the snow-covered fields and misty tenements in all its blazing red and orange glory. Wonderful.

krakow, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm in Glasgow next week, hopefully. Looking forward to some wintry scenes!

Oh wow. Where is that ailsa?

krakow, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Renfrew, just across the river from the airport, looking over towards Inchinnan.

ailsa, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Note to stalkers: it's not RIGHT outside my house.

ailsa, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

*takes notes*

jed_, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:49 (thirteen years ago) link

(that's not right as in not directly. Not not right as in left, necessarily. I just realised when I said it was out the back of my house, that you might think that my back garden looked like that. It doesn't).

ailsa, Tuesday, 14 December 2010 22:59 (thirteen years ago) link

great pic ailsa!

Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 15 December 2010 06:54 (thirteen years ago) link

That's probably the nicest any part of Renfrewshire has ever looked, congratulations ailsa!

christmas gift-buying related question - does anyone know if the guitar shop by mono still sells those ~£15 ukuleles?

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 11:17 (thirteen years ago) link

I believe they are £20 now, but other than that yes.

The shop is called 'Strung Out' and this is their website, so you could phone and check what they have in... http://www.strungoutguitars.com/

krakow, Tuesday, 21 December 2010 14:25 (thirteen years ago) link

excellent, thank you.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 21 December 2010 14:40 (thirteen years ago) link

No problem. Best of luck.

jed_, Wednesday, 9 February 2011 02:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Glasgow, I am up next weekend at kind of short notice. Not sure when I am available for a pint, but there will be an opportunity.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Sunday, 13 February 2011 17:46 (thirteen years ago) link

yay! There is a small football match on on Sunday, so not then.

ailsa, Sunday, 13 February 2011 17:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Immediately after it (lunchtime kick off, no?) may be a time.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Sunday, 13 February 2011 17:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Pick a suitable (i.e. not rammed with numpties who are likely to beat me up) pub and that sounds like a plan.

ailsa, Sunday, 13 February 2011 18:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Right, Sunday lunchtime is A Thing.

Suggestions for where would be good welcomed. I will be in town from about 1300, so somewhere I can get a nice lunch as well would be of benefit. Shame West Beer shut, that might have been a good plan.

I'm sure somebody will say NOT MONO at some point.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Monday, 14 February 2011 12:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I suspect anywhere on the east side of Glasgow will be rammed with people coming back from Celtic Park, and anywhere with a telly will be rammed full stop. Mono or the Note might actually be an option at this point due to lack of telly, but this entirely depends if your idea of a nice lunch involves tofu.

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 14:06 (thirteen years ago) link

eh when did west shut?

conrad, Monday, 14 February 2011 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Ah, google suggests it is open again. It shut early last year, did it not?

In which case West seems like an option, unlikely to get a football crowd and with decent food. Any objections?

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Monday, 14 February 2011 17:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Not walking through Bridgeton after an OF game :-( Wouldn't bet on it not being hoaching after the match either due to proximity to Celtic Park.

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 17:36 (thirteen years ago) link

It was open in the summer last year as we had a work day out there, btw. Someone else mentioned to me that it had shut, but I never investigated further.

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 17:37 (thirteen years ago) link

I think both Lucy and Trish have said to me independently it had shut. Oh well, pleased to be proved wrong but Ailsa probably has a point about proximity. Note, then?

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Monday, 14 February 2011 18:14 (thirteen years ago) link

What about the Pot Still? Had a couple of decent FAPs in there, can't see it being an option for the football crowds? Or, if you're after food, how's the Drum & Monkey likely to be for crowds, I can't remember if they have tellies but it never strikes me as a particularly football-watchy sort of a pub?

Are we likely to be many in number, we could probably meet somewhere then find somewhere else if necessary?

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:26 (thirteen years ago) link

hey guys what about mono

Gukbe, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:27 (thirteen years ago) link

YOU ARE HILARIOUS.

(I promise when you come over we will go to Mono and I won't complain)

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:28 (thirteen years ago) link

haha! like i could get anyone out to mono. when i come over it'll be The Belle and then Oran Mor for the more irresponsible among us.

Gukbe, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Yay stupid late nights in Oran Mor :-)

(that needs a pukey hungover emoticon, tbh)
