don't get why everyone hates on this kanye verse. one of the very few recent ones i like a lot.

i don't know if many people are hating on that verse besides me and lex, who are kind of the big outspoken opponents of the whole album fwiw

i dont really like any of kanye's verses on the album

that's probably my least favorite line on the album

altho i think it's totally something that kanye would say irl and find funny

this is one of those albums where i'm like "OMG that's the corniest line ever" then kanye drops one that tops it in the next song

see mailbooya to me is at least a kinda typical early kanye pun. as opposed to, say, swallowship, which is awful

i like that he took 'besides 'ye they can't stand besides me' to its logical conclusion (excepting rick ross at the beginning)

yeah but i also posted in the kanye thread around the same time that it would be in my year-end somewhere in the 30s or 40s. i was more an opponent of the album's #1 masterpiece status than the album itself but yeah there are things i've said that suggest otherwise i guess ::shrug::

imo it is some of the worst rap of 2010 bookended by some of the best. i understand the temptation but i could never rate it

Really the only totally unforgivable thing in the song is Jay-Z thinking he can try to rhyme "common" with "monster".

It's shorter than either.

It's basically just ppl doing the same "Jay-Z is old, what business does he have still rapping" routine that's been going on for the past 2 years.

Kanye = 28 bars
Jay = 20
Nicki = 32

i mean 16 bars is kind of the standard so Jay's verse can be considered long in that sense but not in the context of the song

where does this verse rank in the pantheon of famous guest verses? is it the most famous in like 5 years? after consulting various young ppl in my world of young ppl, i came across a lot of "nicki minaj really kills that verse" by people that would never have cared about nicki because the singles off 'pink friday' are so poppy & bad -- really think the "monster" verse opened her up to a bigger audience

probably not nearly as much as her similarly loopy verse on a top 10 hit?

"Bottoms Up" is a bigger hit (and a better verse imo) but c'mon "Monster" is obv so much more revered as her standout calling card moment
