This track is indeed, excellent, so excellent. In fact, I'm now listening to it, sped up by 24%, with old rave tracks on top of it, to hear what it would sounds like as an actually happy house song. The question now is why?

Hmm, cannot say that I've especially noticed any particularly "hot" mastering on this. Might run it through Audacity later and see what tale the waveform tells.

Hey here's a clip of Alice Cooper doing Eighteen on TV in 1972. This is a cool song, I've never heard it before. I really don't know Alice Cooper's music at all, I admit, except for "School's Out" I guess.

couple of thoughts:

- the Elzhi album/mixtape/tour cd whatever is really, really dope. he is sounding way better than Jay Electronica (not that impressed with this dude) and Guilty Simpson...not sure if this was ever really contested but I'm saying it anyway

- Pusha T is the best right now. The "Everybody Nose" remix is fucking crazy and he absolutely murders it (love the new beat for it, too)

- um, I guess this last one isn't a thought but is there a new(er) TI single floating around? besides "No Matter What"

four weeks pass...

while L&PT and beardo threads abound, this audacious album statement really deserves its own thread. i saw Lindstrøm DJ the album during SXSW, but nighttime there doesn't quite lend itself to critical faculties (much less remembrance of details like where you parked or how many Shiners downed or what was in that joint). i recall it being much like an extension of his previous DJ affair, epic and expansive yet taking it too far out at the breakdown and losing dancefloor momentum resolutely.

but as an album, it's a sweet suite, the logical extension of wishing that "Supernature" and "Oxygene" were the same song and that it took up a full album side. jokingly, i told a friend that this is the "Ys of Disco" but in retrospect it's the polar opposite of Ys. whereas i found Ys to be stiff, mannered, and decidedly cool, Where I Go is infused with some serious warmth and good vibes. a shame it's out at the end of summer rather than soundtracking it.

pet peeve--writers who do the following:

- they quote something clever an unnamed "friend" said
- they quote themselves saying something clever to an unnamed "friend"
- they quote something clever they overheard from an anonymous fellow audience member

all of the above occur as they're leaving the theater or venue

one month passes...

there's a big *big* world of context out there that's shaped how any number of acts are received, and Radiohead's a stellar example of one such act.

While I wouldn't argue that context plays no role at all, I guess I do feel pretty absolutely that there's no context in the world that could get me to enjoy or not enjoy the taste of a meal.

And thus with Radiohead, and thus with music in general.

My enjoyment of particular chord progressions and textures, etc. is far too visceral for that.

Would the ting tings count as rock? If so their two singles 'shut up and let me go' and 'great dj' have been pretty big here in Spain and they're insanely catchy.

It's hard to write anything too soon about them because it takes so many listens for the layers, details and surprises to reveal themselves. My third listen on headphones on a train ride is what put it over the top for me. After finishing it I was wobbly with vertigo. It felt like the songs corresponded with the neighborhoods that whizzed by, each packed with years of memories and emotions. It's like traveling in an unfamiliar country with a lover, having an intense conversation, getting drunk, arguing, and ending the night at 3 a.m. exhausted from intense make-up sex.

But am I the only person who thinks it's amazing that Norman Cook was in The Housemartins (and Beats International; and The Mighty Dub Katz; and...) before he was Fatboy Slim? Even when "The Rockafeller Skank" hit, no one seemed to think it was a big deal.
