I'm sorry for your loss Chris, life really is shitty sometimes. Wish there were some words of comfort I could offer. Thinking of you all. xxx

Oh Jesus, I'm really really sorry. Don't know what else to say.

:( I hope that was your right email chris.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Friday, 7 April 2006 12:19 (eighteen years ago) link

Chris -- my deepest condolences for you both. Wish I could take back the lighter tone in my e-mail earlier this week. Will be thinking of you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 April 2006 12:58 (eighteen years ago) link

Aw, Chris, my sympathy goes out to you & your family. That's just heart-breaking.

That's horrible news, Chris. Be strong.

Just came by to take a quick gander at the latest TITTWIS and... I am so, so very sorry for you and your wife's loss, Chris V. I recognize that a cyber hug is just a bunch of 1's and 0's transmitted as text via a monitor, but hopefully it will convey some of what a real hug might, i.e. a little bit of comfort after such a devastating event. *hug*

See Me, Repeat Me (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 7 April 2006 17:35 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm so sorry Chris, my condolences to you and the Mrs.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 7 April 2006 17:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Wow that is some shitty news, Chris. I actually was thinking of you recently... That's partly why I stopped by this thread after so long away from ilx myself. I'll be thinking of you and your family...

martin m. (mushrush), Friday, 7 April 2006 20:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Chris. If you ever need to talk or email, let me know, and I'll send you my contact info. Otherwise, everything above.

thanks folks. i love you all.

So. Am I totally a dick for changing the subject and asking how the rest of the tittwisers have been?

I broke up with Jen at the beginning of the year and moved to Portland, which is great. Portland is great, I mean. The breaking up part not so much, even though it was definitely for the best.

I live a short walk from Mr. Casuistry now, so yay!

Also, there are other things to talk about, but enough about me...

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 04:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm glad to hear from your Martin, you've been gone for awhile. Congrats on the move and hope the life change is going well.

I'm a year in Austin now, a rough year. but things are looking up. We've recently bought a house and I'm starting a new job on Monday. :)

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 April 2006 13:52 (eighteen years ago) link

You bought a house! Congrats!

Wow, I'm still saving enough money to adopt a few cats. Heheheheh... A bunch of my more collectory and unused effects pedals are going up on eBay pretty soon. Also, I may be moving back to NYC again (of all places!) in a year or two, so the idea of putting down any kinda roots is sorta, well, hard to imagine for me at the moment.

I didn't have to get a new job to move, which was great because the job market in Portland is not so hot. At least not in my line of work... I still telecommute to a company that is actually located in Nashville, so they don't really care where I live as long as my infernet is high speed and I'm willing to be around during Central Time zone work hours when there's a meeting or something. With any luck I'll be able to keep this job for a while and move at the merest whim for some time to come!

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 13:59 (eighteen years ago) link

I get to have a root canal on Thursday!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 10 April 2006 14:01 (eighteen years ago) link

Cheers?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 April 2006 14:05 (eighteen years ago) link

that sounds like a pretty good job Martin. I'll be doing web design for the university here. I didn't plan on doing that again but this job is pretty laid-back and very well paid so I'm gladly taking it.

owning a home is quite cool. I feel like it's another pet or part of our family. our little house has feelings mang!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 April 2006 14:30 (eighteen years ago) link

I am doing well myself. It will be in the 60s all week here in Chicago, which is A-MA-ZING. I spend most of my time outside of work doing band stuff. We had a fun show this past weekend with another ILX band called the Sharks (gbx is in that one). Tonight we're reviewing our new cd and the artwork before it gets sent out for duplication. Exciting! Nick and I are well and full of twee love for each other (ok, I'll only say that for myself as to not embarass him). What else? I continue to be broke as a joke, but happy.

Sarah Madkitten McLusky (coco), Monday, 10 April 2006 14:31 (eighteen years ago) link

I am generally happy, though I miss my cats in Seattle. They are still with Jen and she and I aren't really getting along as I'd hoped. But oh well... Hopefully that will change someday.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 14:33 (eighteen years ago) link

sorry. :(

Hi sarah!

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 April 2006 14:50 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, you know how it is.

Also, Sarah, I put a F@ke F1ct10ns song on a mix I made for someone recently. So yay!

I will hopefully be done with my album by the end of June!

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 14:56 (eighteen years ago) link

Things are okay here.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:54 (eighteen years ago) link

chocolate and cheese?

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:54 (eighteen years ago) link

I had a root canal last summer, Huk - it wasn't bad at all. Sure, you have to keep your mouth open for a long time, and afterwards it feels sort of like someone punched you in the jaw, but it goes away pretty quickly.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:56 (eighteen years ago) link

anticipated worst part of the root canal: it might be performed by a girl I had a big sincere crush on at 15.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 10 April 2006 15:58 (eighteen years ago) link

chocolate and cheese?

OK, three kinds. Cheddar, emmenthal, and then chocolate. Our nighbors are crazy foodies and they invited my gf, three of our friends and myself at the last minute last night. How do you say no to fondue? I haven't had it in like, ten years.

Huk, maybe after she's been fiddling about in your mouth for a while, she'll realize that she loves you and needs to protect you your teeth.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 10 April 2006 16:04 (eighteen years ago) link

anticipated worst part of the root canal: it might be performed by a girl I had a big sincere crush on at 15.

Can I steal this scenario for my next screenplay?

ps I'm completely serious.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 16:08 (eighteen years ago) link

"So, Huk, it's a simple choice between pain and relief. Is it safe?"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 April 2006 16:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Also, what is an insincere crush?

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 16:21 (eighteen years ago) link

insincere crush = lust
sincere crush = lust plus

also, wtf, you can have it, but I'm using it too, but I trust that, y'know, i'm too lazy to actually get around to writing anything.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 10 April 2006 16:45 (eighteen years ago) link

Hm. I always just thought that crushes were by definition sincere. By which I mean, it's just a crush and not really love so it's a "sincere crush" because that's largely harmless anyway.

Shows you what kinda romantic I am. The kind who can't really articulate a concept when he needs to be clear.

Also I have a sincere crush at the moment which makes the romantic in me even more able to stifle my ability to form a complete thought or

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 16:57 (eighteen years ago) link

I miss new crushes.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:15 (eighteen years ago) link

This is not a new crush. It is on an ex.

Long story.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:16 (eighteen years ago) link

i can't think of the last time someone crushed on me? i guess being semi-married and retired does that.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:16 (eighteen years ago) link

great pictures m.white!

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:17 (eighteen years ago) link

I can't either, Sam. Such is the price of getting older and having a kid, I guess.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:17 (eighteen years ago) link

luna, you know half the internet crushes on you. but i guess that doesn't count.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:18 (eighteen years ago) link

Earnest? I mean, at 15, I really, really admired her and just wanted to be around her, she made me laugh and seemed genuinely interested in stuff I had to say, and didn't seem to be, y'know, putting on her badass like every other girl I knew when I was 15.
I don't think I've seen or spoken to her since, and I don't remember why I stopped hanging out with her. But I'm 94% sure I never made a pass at her, because, like, THAT'S HOW SINCERE MY CRUSH WAS.
So I probably stopped seeing her when I started hanging around with people who had their badass on all the time and whatever.
See, but when we were 15, we were, like, peers. We were 15. End of story. Now, she's a dentist and I'm a failed (failing) writer with no dental insurance and really bad teeth.

The only new crushes I get are four legged and they just want me for my ability to open pet food containers.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:20 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah i have a thirteen-year love affair going like that but he only wants to sleep on my face at night and then stand on my chest and yell in the morning.

Miss Misery xox (MissMiseryTX), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Not four-legged, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:24 (eighteen years ago) link

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:25 (eighteen years ago) link

Sam if it makes you feel any better I probably have a crush on you.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 10 April 2006 17:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Hi, TITTWISers!

Way to go, Huk!

I'm sorry to hear about the family dramas. I'm glad though, Sam, that you are ready to do something about it, even if you're not sure exactly what yet.

I feel like I don't have much to report myself. I spent the last two weekends at music festivals, festivaling it up. It's 92 degrees here in Chicago with some god-awful heat index. We lost power last night for at least an hour. I very quickly grew to appreciate our little window AC unit.

Our band keeps playing shows. We had our cd release mid-July and it went pretty well. Nick and I are still on to get married June 2nd, 07. :-D

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 14:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Excellent Huk - good luck with whatever comes next!

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 15:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Sarah, was that date not already set or are you commenting on the relative success of the cd release?

Either way, I suppose congratulations are in order.

M. White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 16:05 (seventeen years ago) link

eh, yep.

i miss it here. hope everyone is good. its 98 degrees here.

slow jamz and white guy indie acoustic shit (Chris V), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 18:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Ha ha, M. White.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 18:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey everyone. I miss it too. I kinda like Luna's idea even if I'm a boy - a board that's specifically girl-friendly without actually excluding macho sweaty hunks of manmeat like M White, Huk and myself sounds pretty neat.

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Tuesday, 1 August 2006 22:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Hi there. Pardon me for wandering in, but I want to agree with what Earwig said. (Ew, "earwig".) I think this board community is swell, but I also think it could do with some feminine chit-chatty-ness. Now that I'd be for specific exclusion of a particular gender, just something that is more like a coffee klatch.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 02:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, that's what I mean! Well. Maybe we should, then?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 03:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I say go right ahead. Why not?

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 03:45 (seventeen years ago) link

For the record: my manmeat is not that sweaty (i wear boxers).

Huk-L (Huk-L), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:19 (seventeen years ago) link

At the risk of losing my status as a macho, sweaty, hunk o' manmeat, I'd like to point out that traditionally, or at least as long as I've been around, the TITTWIS threads have hardly been cesspools of simmering testosterone garnished with piles of dirty gym socks, unwashed dishes, sports magazines and posters of ladies in varying states of dishabille. That said, if the ladies feel that they should have a gynocentric place to chat and hang their lingerie up to dry, I don't think anyone could really object but I fear it would make an ideal target for a certain breed of troll.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I was thinking along those lines myself - and not even about certain breeds of trolls, but more certain breeds of ilx regular posters.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 14:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Like when I show up drunk and post that y'all should 'quitcher bitchin and rustle me up some grub' (in French, naturally)?

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 15:01 (seventeen years ago) link

You forgot the crotch grab.

But yeah, no, not exactly what I mean. I dunno, some things sound like such good ideas at times, and then in the cold, harsh light of day, they just... don't.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 15:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I was thinking along those lines myself - and not even about certain breeds of trolls, but more certain breeds of ilx regular posters.

Forgive me for not knowing the mechanics of this message board community well, but -- why? Why would there be this huge controversy over something that's as simple as that which you proposed? Does this have any relation to the seeming existence of "golden children" on this forum? You know -- offend the wrong people for whatever stupid reason(s) they propose and instantly encounter hurricane-strength wrath? I say just go with your idea and "fuck the hataz", as the young people of today would put it.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Thursday, 3 August 2006 04:29 (seventeen years ago) link

hi everyone,

sam and luna, best wishes to deal with icky family situations. luna, i think you did well to not hit a certain someone upside the head with a frying pan (like people do in cartoons, but never seem to do in real life).

m.white, i was giving you as an example of the kind of guy that could wear a seersucker suit and get away with it. do you have any?

sarah, glad to hear the band is going well, i really hope i can hear you guys sometime when i visit chicago.

yay for huck finally quitting your job!

not sure if i have an opinion about the girl-slanted board alternative. i spend more time on another site at the moment that's mostly girls, and it's generally more polite and stuff, but there can be some really nasty and mean stuff. but you don't get the random noize dudes, either, so that makes things less annoying if you're trying to be even a little serious...

hope everyone is having an ok monday

colette (a2lette), Monday, 7 August 2006 09:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Thank you, Colette, I am having a tolerable Monday. I hope yours is as well. I do, in fact, have a seersucker suit which I tend to wear with white bucks, a Panama hat, and a bow-tie. Whether I 'get away with it' is an enitrely different matter altogether.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 7 August 2006 12:52 (seventeen years ago) link

hey colette! haven't seen you around much - how are you?

My mom called me Saturday afternoon. Didn't apologize exactly, but said she missed me, missed Spencer, and just felt terrible about the whole thing. We talked about it a little, but she still doesn't want to hear that Eric isn't the devil here, but I think I got her to admit to as much as I can for now. I took her shopping yesterday, like I do most weekends, and we chatted idly about everything BUT what happened last week, but you know, I think that's okay for now.

The best news she had was that Bryan is leaving for Thailand on Wednesday.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 7 August 2006 19:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm glad you and your mother have been able to make inroads on some kind of reconciliation, luna. I don't know about you, but I personally feel rotten if my mother and I have just had a dust-up, which has happened on occasion because of our dual obstinancies.

How have the rest of you been doing? It feels freeing posting here again under a new username, but awkward because it means I could not make a successful disconnect from ILX. *shrug* It shouldn't matter, really. And it doesn't, not now. I'm perfectly happy just having fun around here the way I should've since the beginning.

And when are we all going to converge for a TITTWIS FAP? Or is that completely off the schedule?

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Thursday, 10 August 2006 05:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Phoenix, are we allowed to know who you are/were? Sorry to pry!

Earwig oh! (Mark C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 09:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 10 August 2006 09:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I am way too predictable.

Anyway, enough about me -- how about you guys? What's going on with you?

M. White, that video was hilarious. Taking into consideration its entertainment factor, necessary for our gray Thursdays, it was apropos of EVERYTHING.

Phoenix Dancing (krushsister), Thursday, 10 August 2006 21:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey Dee! (This is Sam. I locked myself out of ILx this week and had to start over.)

My mother's back in the hospital. They let her out last Sat. and then Mon. she had to go back. For one day we thought she had lung cancer until they said "just kidding! that wasn't a tumor." Gee, thanks. They still can't figure out what's wrong with her lungs though.

My mom is on all manner of medicines for all kind of ails. But it's become obvious to us that there is a problem with how she uses her pain medication (OxyC0tin for one). After consulting with other family members, yesterday I called her doctor.

I shared our concerns with her and gave her some examples of the misuse. She said she would "confront" her about it and get the pain mgmt. specialist to look her over and consult.

I tremble. My mom's going to think either my aunt or me started this and then we will be sent to Siberia. Oh well, it needed to be done.

Handmaiden of Hip Hop (Molly Jones), Friday, 11 August 2006 12:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm so sorry to hear this, Sam. How much pain is she in?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 11 August 2006 13:12 (seventeen years ago) link

who knows. I think once you become physically addicted to stuff like that it's hard to separate the original pain from the withdrawl pain. I don't know. Right now she's in a lot of pain b/c she's all wired up and getting prodded and scanned.

It just felt weird doing that.

Handmaiden of Hip Hop (Molly Jones), Friday, 11 August 2006 13:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Pain management is hard, especially when one's dealing with stuff as addictive as Oxy. It also has a non-negligeable effect of one's system that aggravate underlying ills. My sympathies go out to you and your family.
