John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 11:56 (nineteen years ago) link

Tsunami relief concert tickets on sale now - line up includes Frank Ferguson, Band S and Mogwai.

http://www.secctickets.com/

Reporting back: The band played better in general than at the Winchester, but the sound was shit. The wife of a record label wants to see them in a smaller venue with proper sound. They have nifty under-pew heating in churches these days. Three strange people danced in the aisle. A lot of people left after the main attraction so the Main Attraction had a smaller audience. Momus' cousin sang backing vocals for Stevie Reverb.

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 23 January 2005 11:10 (nineteen years ago) link

I have just realised I will be in London on Saturday 19th February, so I have four standing tickets for the Tsunami gig for sale at exactly the price I paid for them - £28.67 each. Yes, I did gift aid. :((((

Madchen (Madchen), Sunday, 23 January 2005 13:19 (nineteen years ago) link

Colin MacIntyre of Mull Historical Society said the natural disaster has shaken everyone: “I don’t think there’s been anything like this in our lifetimes.

“I’m already playing on February 19 at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut, and I was planning to have a collection . I’m still going to play both gigs, so I’m going to have a drumkit in each venue and whip across Glasgow, like Phil Collins in Band Aid, but with more hair.”

Onimo (GerryNemo), Sunday, 23 January 2005 13:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Me and my friend have done a night out in Glasgow and Edinburgh on the same night. This I feel was more in the spirit of Collins at Live aid.

KeithW (kmw), Sunday, 23 January 2005 13:49 (nineteen years ago) link

So I take it NO ONE will be coming to the gig I'm putting on on the 19th? If I can find a venue...

Peachy.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 23 January 2005 14:49 (nineteen years ago) link

OK maybe I will just cancel that gig. Ugh.

Ally C (Ally C), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:13 (nineteen years ago) link

saturday looks bad.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 23 January 2005 16:39 (nineteen years ago) link

I would come Ally.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Sunday, 23 January 2005 20:59 (nineteen years ago) link

Alba's last words to me this morning were to try Glasgow more.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:00 (nineteen years ago) link

he says that on his death bed.

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:01 (nineteen years ago) link

I thought alba hated "try glasgow more".

perhaps, this means he hates you, too. sorry.

still, I don't think anyone else here hates you, yet, so, yeah, try!!

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 23 January 2005 21:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Try and be hated more?

Well, I'm off to a great start with Alba then! He also said he'd never speak to me again. Mind you, that was before the Glasgow suggestion. Maybe he works his hate out systematically?

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Sunday, 23 January 2005 22:18 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't know--he can get quite violent, at times.

I doubt he actually hates you, though.

: D

RJG (RJG), Monday, 24 January 2005 00:09 (nineteen years ago) link

I wouldn't hate you, or would hate you, if I knew who you were.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 24 January 2005 00:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Me and the boys are doing a tsunami relief thingy on Saturday at *cough* Fury Murrays. There's an underground station nearby...

scotstvo (scotstvo), Monday, 24 January 2005 01:38 (nineteen years ago) link

I got thrown out of fury murray's, once.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 24 January 2005 01:51 (nineteen years ago) link

Furry Muffs. I hate you all.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 24 January 2005 13:36 (nineteen years ago) link

You ASKED to be thrown out of Fury Murrays. And you had to CONVINCE them to do so.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:00 (nineteen years ago) link

you had to get my jacket, for me.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:27 (nineteen years ago) link

I had to get his jacket, for him.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:30 (nineteen years ago) link

This is like the two ronnies.

KeithW (kmw), Monday, 24 January 2005 18:55 (nineteen years ago) link

They are the two bonnies.

Mooro (Mooro), Monday, 24 January 2005 20:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I'd like to report that mr ailsa successfully got through the first round of interviews for the job madchen mentioned upthread. (L., I left a message on what I think is your mobile today to say thanks, but i'm not sure if it's the right number i have).

Is any of Glasgow going to the tsunami gig? I have no ticket, but would like to go. Madchen, I will buy a couple of you if you still have them.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:21 (nineteen years ago) link

Well done Mr.Ailsa.

Try Paisley less, right now.

KeithW (kmw), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:28 (nineteen years ago) link

yes, I wondered whether anyone cared enough to see if i'd been stabbed (not being a bloke, I assumed you'd know I hadn't, but still).

One of the stabbings was about 200 yards from my work, outside the pub I would have been in had our monthly staff meeting finished early.

We went for a couple of pints after work, and everyone in the pub was talking about it. We tried to get the barman to subsidise taxi fares so we could continue to utilise his pub having not been brutally stabbed, but he wasn't having any of it.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:47 (nineteen years ago) link

I've just realised I offered to buy two Madchens up there. That wasn't what I meant, exactly.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 27 January 2005 20:49 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm sad I haven't managed to see dot-to-dot yet. I hope to rectify this btw.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:04 (nineteen years ago) link

You have seen Ally wiggling his arse though. It's like that. But with (different) music.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:06 (nineteen years ago) link

it sounds like the best thing in the world.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 27 January 2005 21:12 (nineteen years ago) link

don't dash, between them.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 27 January 2005 22:00 (nineteen years ago) link

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 27 January 2005 22:00 (nineteen years ago) link

don't dash, between them.

The Pinefox should appear here, to express admiration.

The Morsefox (Mooro), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:14 (nineteen years ago) link

No dashes.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah. At first I thought - BUT SHE WAS OVER THE OTHER SIDE! WHA?! HOW?! HUH?!

Then I realised.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Southpaw Bummer.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:36 (nineteen years ago) link

I emboldened those dashes, not that you'd notice.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:37 (nineteen years ago) link

I just flipped it. Someone it's....not as good.

I notice nothing.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Cor!

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 28 January 2005 10:56 (nineteen years ago) link

Do Michelle Dotrice (as I shall call them) do angular white-boy funk, as seems to be popular these days? They look very AGGRESSIVE, like a throwback to the days of BOVVER. Do they do slap bass?

That is quite a nice photo, backwards or not.

They said the stabbings were at something called Renfrew, on the radio. I should have paid more attention.

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Friday, 28 January 2005 17:30 (nineteen years ago) link

Four of the stabbings were in Paisley, two quite near my work and one on my way home - I saw the police and ambulance in attendance at all three of those on my journey from work to home on Wednesday, except I didn't know that all three incidents were related at that time, or even that they were all stabbings, I just thought the police and ambulances were particularly busy that evening. The last one was in my lovely home town of Renfrew, but I was safely ensconced in a pub in Paisley at the time blissfully unaware that some knife-wielding nutter was rampaging around the area. Got out of the pub at midnight to get a lift home, switched on car radio, husband's all "I can't believe you went out on your own when there's a knife-wielding nutter about".

It's kept everyone in town talking for a few days, and was making everyone a bit wary of blokes. On my way up the road last night, there were no people walking about on their own, and police on every street corner in the town centre.

About half a dozen blokes in the pub last night were daring each other to see who would go out for fags. "It's like Russian Roulette, can you make it round to Newsbox and back without getting stabbed?". The bloke who went got a round of applause when he got back in.

This is what passes for excitement round here. You could all try it, if you are fed up of trying Glasgow.

ailsa (ailsa), Friday, 28 January 2005 18:20 (nineteen years ago) link

My very first though was: "OMG hope Mr Ailsa is OK!"

SOMEHOW. Not SOMEONE.

Ally C (Ally C), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:51 (nineteen years ago) link

THOUGHT. I am so DRUNK.
