The Tragic Band albums (Unconditionally and Bluejeans) have always been the "ones to avoid."
At least, that's the way I see it.
Mirror Man is the first one I put on after I'd heard the news, on the other hand.

I really need to keep digging in deeper, right now my ten would be like half Trout Mask and half Safe As Milk. I kept passing up on a couple of his other albums at my local store, but, of course, they were all gone when I stopped in this week.

I was wiped out by midnight.

Oh, I don't blame you at all...

Mark G, Thursday, 23 December 2010 15:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Devo's cover of Satisfaction got left out.
There was an interview from the late 70s that I read in an issue of Ptolemaic Terrascope in which the interviewer (can't remember who now) was asking Don what he thought about some of the young blood who were exhibiting an influence. Pere Ubu and the Weirdos were mention, iirc, and then Beefheart was like "why did Devo think it was necessary to combine Ant Man Bee with the Rolling Stones Satisfaction?"

The two you are alluding to have a number of highpoints, and only "Bluejeans" has actual filler. (but it's got "ObsCrest", and the title track and and and...)

Oh, those highpoints of both together make for a really great single album, no question. I knew that there were exactly 12 studio albums in the catalog, so the implication that exactly two were dispensible made the choice seem a no-brainer. If that makes any sense.

If it cannot be notated, then there is no nute. (Myonga Vön Bontee), Thursday, 23 December 2010 23:44 (thirteen years ago) link

I've only heard the Pink Pop Festival youtube version so far (5:30s)
I'd probably like any songs like this

it is the title track of the album "Mirror Man", which was supposed to be his 2nd album but didn't come out in its intended form for years.

He had already retired when I spent the summer of 1987 searching record stores for an LP of Trout Mask Replica, and I remember feeling sad when I thought how he really made so few records. That's one reason why I have still held off hearing Bluejeans, Doc and Ice Cream.

You've never heard "Doc at the Radar Station"? You've got to rectify that immediately.
