deej, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 06:54 (fifteen years ago) link

the original i mean, this remix is balls

deej, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 06:54 (fifteen years ago) link

i swear none of the dudes that make these remixes actually dance

deej, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 06:54 (fifteen years ago) link

who listens to remixes of kid cudi songs

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 06:55 (fifteen years ago) link

not accusing - just saying

that crookers remix is garbage i'd rather listen to justice

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 06:58 (fifteen years ago) link

same ppl who listen to crookers remixes of whatever the fuck else - its blog/bmore bullshit that gets tons of club play now

deej, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 06:59 (fifteen years ago) link

that's why i stay home and play mario kart on the weekends

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:00 (fifteen years ago) link

the internet has ruined the remix right? i feel like everyone has a crookers remix nowadays. how the hell am i supposed to care

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:02 (fifteen years ago) link

its weird none of this shit seems particularly fun to dance to -- im used to old-ilx-style debates about dance music where everybody talks in reductive terms about a black-white polarity between funkless trance and groovin disco-house or whatever, and although i reject the simple and wrongheaded binary opposition there i have to admit it has sorta subconsciously informed the way i look at a lot of dance, even if in the most general, so-many-exceptions-to-the-rule terms.

this stuff though has really done a service to this sort of offensive race-informed discourse by removing it -- so many shitty djs of all races in this scene, and it is a genuinely diverse scene .... and sometimes it'll have good ideas and sometimes it will have shitty ones, but the worst is this BMORE BREAK x BORING GRATING SYNTH MELODY thing. and this isnt some lol im old bullshit i dont think -- this feels different, like i 'get' whats fun to dance to when listening to a bmore mix, i 'get' house music (obviously) but this stuff seems sheerly irritating when its all thrown together, like there's no vibe, no attempt to really make anything happen, just to signify 'progress' by with this cobbled together frankenstein dance music

deej, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:07 (fifteen years ago) link

that said this kid cudi track (the original) is dope and deserves a really banging dance remix -- which this crookers version is not

deej, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:08 (fifteen years ago) link

no fucking clue why im talking about this on the ringtone thread but i blame 808s and heartbreak

deej, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:08 (fifteen years ago) link

i blame preview of the matrix 12

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:11 (fifteen years ago) link

to be honest i always thought that real hard ravey shit like crookers was made to be purposefully grating and antagonistic - like "try dancing to this" but in an asshole way

i mean i don't see how you physically could do it. i thought this was inherent

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Listening to it, it's not great, but I wouldn't not dance to it. It's hardly at the extreme end of the noise-synth house trend.

Ringtone Tycoon (The Reverend), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:29 (fifteen years ago) link

Seems like it's taking its cues from bassline as much as bmore or Justice

Ringtone Tycoon (The Reverend), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:30 (fifteen years ago) link

arab money video is kind of hilarious - i approve of shawty lo and ace hood sheepishly dancing

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:31 (fifteen years ago) link

The original is dope though

Ringtone Tycoon (The Reverend), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 07:32 (fifteen years ago) link

wtf is 'crookers' and why u guys gotta further the idea of 'bmore' as some abstract concept that wack dudes anywhere can just co-opt with a fast breakbeat

nutz in a good way, aka bustin (some dude), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 13:57 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah seriously those who co-opt it correctly know to call it Club Music

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 15:35 (fifteen years ago) link

OFFICIAL SONG DANCES are getting ever shittier. Still don't know if I like the tune.

Peter "One Dart" Manley (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Thursday, 4 December 2008 00:19 (fifteen years ago) link

i like the tune but its ignorant as fuck -- song has been stuck in my head 4ever and its the kind of goofy bullshit that busta needed, none of that self-mythologizing Dr Dre assist bullshit & drug talk

deej, Thursday, 4 December 2008 00:33 (fifteen years ago) link

Busta Rhymes as ambassador for stony faced "stop snitching" mid 00s thuggin' has to be the worst career move of the past decade in terms of quality drop off.

ron browz is a good thing for rap right now anyway, interesting and identifiable approach i think

deej, Thursday, 4 December 2008 00:38 (fifteen years ago) link

this prodigy 'product of the 80s' album is kinda cool, i dig the production vibe he went for -- honestly id rather hear big twins half the time tho, and whats with no alchemist on this? the more a joint sounds like that classic alchemist/big twins track the more im gonna like it

deej, Thursday, 4 December 2008 01:15 (fifteen years ago) link

the cover is bonkers

BIG WORLD HOOS. WEBSTEEN. (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Thursday, 4 December 2008 01:26 (fifteen years ago) link

ya i agree with this - even though they are just autotune r&b jams they are obviously coming from someone w/ ideas and someone who has though about an aesthetic.

jordan s (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 4 December 2008 02:21 (fifteen years ago) link

speaking of Alchemist, the track with Jada, Pusha and Snoop is Crazy.

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Thursday, 4 December 2008 15:41 (fifteen years ago) link

seriously one of the sickest tracks/videos ive seen in so long. i wish everything sounded like this

surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Thursday, 4 December 2008 15:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't really care about the "Arab Money" controversy (although the 'politically correct' remix is cute), but man I just hate the beat, why do NYC cats only get on the radio with these awful wheezy synth beats like this and "We Fly High" anymore?
