THE CAPE - why am I watching this terrible, terrible show

Indolence Mission (DJP), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh can i mention, the best SNL performance of the last few weeks was Jason Sudekis tickled pink in the sketch where Jim Carrey was the psychic celeb impersonator. I was dying

domo genesis p-orridge (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah that was really good

goole, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:41 (thirteen years ago) link

nobody does a thicke!

mizzell, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Also, his Thicke was good!

polyphonic, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

I also kind of liked ultra-serious Seth Meyers on weekend update even though the humor in it didn't always work. It was nice seeing him have a sort of Jon Stewart moment.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah...I know I said I hated this one, most of it I found really bad, but Globe sketch was awesome, spanish ESPN was great and while I was annoyed at the Fresh Prince skit because as mentioned I'd like to see him do more then just impressions all the time, it was way better then I woulda hoped. Seth's monologue about the founding fathers was fantastic.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 19:06 (thirteen years ago) link

brb, dying

domo genesis p-orridge (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Sudekis is treasure.

lenonsense (Clay), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 20:45 (thirteen years ago) link

he is the best

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 20:46 (thirteen years ago) link

nasim almost cracking there, so good

goole, Wednesday, 19 January 2011 20:48 (thirteen years ago) link

i think he's def the strongest cast member atm

domo genesis p-orridge (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 19 January 2011 21:09 (thirteen years ago) link

have a bad feeling about Eisenberg

Gukbe, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, same here.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:05 (thirteen years ago) link

i'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he's just always cast in deadpan straight man roles and that he'll at least try to prove he can do something else tonight

some dude, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:06 (thirteen years ago) link

didn't know there was any doubt that that's all he can do. he'll probably OD on his medication or have an anxiety attack mid-show.

I say this as a guy who really, really likes him btw.

Gukbe, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:08 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm not saying he's not one-note, just that i'm less sure of that being entirely because of his own limitations than i am with say Cera

some dude, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:40 (thirteen years ago) link

fair enough. either way he's about the last person I'd expect to fit in with the style of SNL. interested to see it, though.

Gukbe, Sunday, 30 January 2011 03:51 (thirteen years ago) link

This is pretty funny so far!

Indolence Mission (DJP), Sunday, 30 January 2011 04:54 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah this has been a really good episode so far

zuckerberg's cameo was genuinely awkward + cute + endearing!

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 04:56 (thirteen years ago) link

Better than most of what I've seen recently. Was worried about Eisenberg but should have known the writing is the biggest danger.

Gukbe, Sunday, 30 January 2011 04:57 (thirteen years ago) link

is it just my feed or has eisenberg been bleeped three separate times already?

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 04:59 (thirteen years ago) link

Hader is breaking all over this sketch.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:00 (thirteen years ago) link

god dammit i knew nicki was going to be in this

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:03 (thirteen years ago) link

god dammit i knew john waters was going to be in this wait what

Temple Grindin (m bison), Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Who told Nicki to wear her Gumby wig?

Indolence Mission (DJP), Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:10 (thirteen years ago) link

was kinda holding out hope for "roman's revenge" -- maybe second song

i don't even know which song this is

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:11 (thirteen years ago) link

she'll probably do "moment 4 life" tho

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:11 (thirteen years ago) link

imo she should do "roman's revenge" & get around the problem of no emimem by doing her "monster" verse

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha I was just saying "bet she's not doing 'Roman's Revenge..."

Indolence Mission (DJP), Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:14 (thirteen years ago) link

love jay pharaoh doin his bootsy voice in a nonbootsy role

Temple Grindin (m bison), Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:50 (thirteen years ago) link

When I hear a bootsy voice now in a non-bootsy role, I assign it to the Michael Steele puppet on The Daily Show.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:53 (thirteen years ago) link

^^^exactly

J0rdan S., Sunday, 30 January 2011 05:53 (thirteen years ago) link

Blackenstein skit was A+++

Pretty good episode. Eisenberg was good.

dan selzer, Sunday, 30 January 2011 06:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, he was. Consider me surprised.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 30 January 2011 06:06 (thirteen years ago) link

first full episode i've made it through in a while.

Gukbe, Sunday, 30 January 2011 06:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I like Keenan as Tyler Perry

curmudgeon, Sunday, 30 January 2011 07:17 (thirteen years ago) link

I kind of passed out right after Weekend Update but I enjoyed what I saw.

Indolence Mission (DJP), Sunday, 30 January 2011 14:03 (thirteen years ago) link

didn't know there was any doubt that that's all he can do.

You do know Eisenberg was a stage actor previously, Mr Casting Director?

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 30 January 2011 15:56 (thirteen years ago) link

"oh I saw this guy play neurotic teens/collegians in 3 movies, must be all he can do"

http://www.hulu.com/watch/211060/saturday-night-live-snl-digital-short-the-creep

this was kind of awesome. the rest of it was eh.

tehresa, Sunday, 30 January 2011 16:20 (thirteen years ago) link

are people supposed to a) have seen the pre-fame plays a movie star was in, b) know what kind or roles he did onstage or c) simply respect that he has 'stage actor' experience and that he thus should not be underestimated?

some dude, Sunday, 30 January 2011 16:31 (thirteen years ago) link

people aren't supposed to do anything. "didn't know there was any doubt that that's all he can do" is just crazy-assumptive.

Eisenberg's lookin' like Bacon.

An Artily Shot Sesame Street (Eazy), Sunday, 30 January 2011 17:23 (thirteen years ago) link

Zuck appearance in SNL tradition of stunts > comedy

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 30 January 2011 17:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Agreed that it didn't really add anything.

Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 30 January 2011 17:59 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I didn't see it funny as much as historical and fun.

An Artily Shot Sesame Street (Eazy), Sunday, 30 January 2011 18:00 (thirteen years ago) link

What was the first instance where they put an SNL cast member in character up against the figure in real life on the same screen?

Schwarzeneggar and Hans & Frans comes close, though they weren't really impersonating him.

Pleasant Plains, Sunday, 30 January 2011 18:04 (thirteen years ago) link

But anyway, it's gotten old.
