"There are no big shots on the rock, and even if there were, McGinty would not be. Among Them."

How i wrote elastic man

I second Dr Buck's Letter. "Palm Pilot, it's my lifeline, i think it's my PA's computer, she rules my diary and i download it".

JimD coulda been anything that he wanted to be (JimD), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 12:22 (eighteen years ago) link

for comedy value, "a lot of wind".

for sheer joyous MES joyousness, "eat y'self fitter".

but really, this is too difficult. almost every word he ever uttered is a gem. i've been listening to a LOT of fall recently, and i still find myself amazed by just what goes on in MES's mind.

Tempo House or Garden or Eat Y'self Fitter. Which is why Perverted By Language is the best Fall album.

Funnily enough, I've listened to the whole "Peel Session" CD set over the past two days. Long car journeys at the moment.

Wings or Jawbone. They seem to be make the most sense -- relatively speaking, of course! I mean a cursed jawbone? Traveling back in time to the U.S. Civil War?

"Don't eat chocolate,
Eat salad instead".

Also, fairly predictably:
Totally Wired-
"You don't have to be weird to be wired..."

Gaaawd, there's so many. Especially after getting the excellent Peel Session box set.

The newest one where he reads the Football results.

Another vote for "Eat Y'rself Fitter."

Paint Work
Garden

Although the muffled, barely-intelligible quality of the lyrics and 'read-outs' on those are a big part of what I love about 'em, so wanting to hear them without being buried in the mix is a little perverse.

i like No Bulb for some reason.

"British People in Hot Weather"!

Also..

And you know that servants keep their order knowledge
And as you walk in on the footsteps steed babe
In the encrusted green unwild
You know you are a spoilt Victorian child

I always liked Wings too.

Another favorite, from the first Fall song I ever heard:

My aqua-cat is where it's at
New to mammal range
But you know it would never suit
Territories alpine.

...

I often hope in years ahead
My gossamer front gate
Will keep out the trash in which
My psychic street's enmeshed.

Okay, bit late here but Fit and Working Again must be near the top surely?

twelve years pass...

See, if you came across a new(ish) band in 1978 and theres their first album, and look there's a song called "Music Scene"

I'm betting you would not expect the first lyric to be:

"Oh aye you're a good lad
Here is a pound note"

C n' C Hassle Schmuck from the Peel session has some great one-liners. "You wouldn't even know the sun was up unless there was a press release on it", a mock tribute to Arthur Askey "who's just been shot" and the pre-cog "the date was 2010, all England was a university town - all you could get was wine"

Words of Expectation or Winter (Hostel-maxi) 1 and 2 or Wings. However, I suppose I could go on all night. Lol.

Wow those lines from In These Times are fantastic! (6 posts back- "I often hope etc". )

Before The Moon Falls. Would work well as an angry, ascerbic poem.

mor frog bs (S-), Saturday, 10 February 2018 04:56 (six years ago) link

Yeah man, that's a lyrical gem too. Good one.

I'm proud of the way I've avoided prison
If we carry on like this we're gonna end up like King Crimson

"Now your sleeping with a hippy halfwit/Who thinks he's Mr Mark Smith" from "The Reckoning" is one of the greatest slams ever
