skot is usually my MOR trad sitcom bro, disappointed to hear he doesn't share my mild affection for Better With You or Mike & Molly

i would REALLY like to know what redeeming qualities you find in Better With You! it's in the dictionary under the word generic, etc, etc. i mean, i don't even think its worth trashing cuz its so negligable. want it gone already.
the women on Mike & Molly are fine and i enjoy my hero Swoosie as much as ever, but i kinda can't stand big dude OR his cop sidekick. they really really really turn me off/rub me the wrong way/etc. and they just ain't funny. not even James Burrows can turn this sow's ear into, um, gold cloth or whatever. and he is a genius! he helped make the MTM show, the Bob Newhart Show, Rhoda, Laverne & Shirley, Taxi, The Associates, Cheers, Wings, Frasier, Friends, Newsradio, 3rd Rock From The Sun, Will & Grace, Two And A Half Men, and The Big Bang Theory the fine shows that they are and were. But he also worked on Dear John, Dharma & Greg, Caroline In The City, The Class, Back To You, and Gary Unmarried, and no amount of genius could make those stinkers float. and i put Mike & Molly in the same stinky boat.

Better With You - for people who think Modern Family is just too darn edgy! It's OK.

Found an even older "streets ahead" use on ILM (the Rehabilitaing The Adverts thread).
Kind of agree and disagree! To me they're mid-way between the two categories you've defined. Buzzcocks and Wire are streets ahead of The Adverts and Penetration, who in turn would be well ahead of say, Slaughter and the Dogs or Eater. That's not to say that the one 'fun at the time single' some of those 3rd div drongos released isn't still fantastic fun once in a while.― Dr. C, Sunday, September 30, 2001 5:00 PM

Not necessarily bad, but a little too obv. sitcommy, this one? You could see the premises be set up and labored over.

nice to see him get to stretch his acting muscles a little more
Great episode. THIS should have been the claymation episode. The episode had a dark and sad undercurrent, especially in the beginning where it seemed like Neil was about to do something pretty drastic (my first thought was suicide). I don't really see how Pierce remains in the group after this, but maybe we can consider it an 'Elseworlds' type episode.

Good point - thanks for that (I laughed just remembering it)

I don't think Pierce has really been "in the group" for awhile, except that I guess they tolerate him hanging around (tho on the same note they tolerate Chang hanging around too and he's pretty psychotic). Harmon seems like a deft enough writer that he's not going to totally dismiss the way Pierce has been acting over the last few episodes and I'd be really shocked if he was just "part of the gang" again without some kind of reconciliation. I've said this before but one of the greatest things about this show is how well developed all the relationships and characters are. Sometimes a character doesn't step forward in any given episode but so much of the show's canon + mythos are built on relationships that make sense and have been developed over numerous episodes. Just thinking about how the Annie/Rich/Jeff thing has been developed through the pottery episode, the annie/jeff episodes, the zombie episodes, all to make that kettle corn episode work in a way that made sense and was true to the characters.
