lol @ XXL repeatedly referring to Scarface as Facemob as if it's his nickname, isn't it just the name of one of his groups?

some dude, Sunday, 6 February 2011 15:23 (thirteen years ago) link

re: the bricksquad tape, it's kinda weird that none of the leaked tracks that i assumed were meant for this tape are actually on it, and i wonder why they changed it from dirty birdz. i mean, the intro for a tape called dirty birdz leaked and shit, and there were bird noises all over a bunch of leaked group cuts. weird

Also "This is what I do" which is still one of the best songs of the year. Maybe they'll be on a proper album?

ok i think we need to talk about angel haze cuz this mixtape just blew my mind a bit: http://angelhaze.bandcamp.com/album/altered-ego-mixtape

there's just...so much in there. really cosmic thinking baout things shit...then she gets as #based as lil b ("bitches on my dick cuz i look like pocahontas") (she's part native american)...then she goes so fucking hard on a love song, of all things...and her fighting tracks are just evil and nasty.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 February 2011 04:19 (thirteen years ago) link

in a D4L way, yes

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 February 2011 04:23 (thirteen years ago) link

clearly the best young l song/beat yet & either the raps are better or its just the beat has more going on to distract from the fact, or something

like b, i don't think he's a bad rapper -- i think he's just disinterested in rapping normally

Dude's been making insaniac beats for a good five years now.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 February 2011 08:16 (thirteen years ago) link

for my money

best young l song = "big money" (actual classic imo)
best young l beat = i'm partial to panda v's "dead fresh" but "drop top swag" for the slaps

but rev otm yes

Lil B can rap his ass off when he wants to but much more importantly than that, he has a personality, which, as far as I can tell, Young L doesn't. Even when B is just fucking around, he can get by on character, but Young L doesn't have that kind of fallback.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 8 February 2011 08:25 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah -- i mean i think he has a personality, tho certainly it's much more conventional than b's

i think a lot of the success of l's music is derived from the interplay b/w insane beats/affected amateurishness of the rapping -- there's also a youthful lightheartedness & playfulness to his most based raps that i dig

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 February 2011 08:32 (thirteen years ago) link

i have no idea what the thought process behind his rapping is, but it seems to me like that contradiction is purposeful -- you have these beats w/ sounds shooting off everywhere & bass grinding like crazy and instead of trying to match that you have a dude w/ this flagrant sing-song flow over the top -- idk it works for me

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 8 February 2011 08:35 (thirteen years ago) link

feeling that g-side

smh if we're talking about #based i should've woken up to more angel haze talk in here, not young l

lextasy refix (lex pretend), Tuesday, 8 February 2011 09:18 (thirteen years ago) link

i dunno. his flow on overdrive and a lot of other places isn't that unconventional to me. it doesn't sound like it's some practiced broken rap/not interested in sounding like a rapper thing. sounds like dumb offbeat styles p mixtape stuff with postgunsounds punchlines. it's hard to explain exactly why it comes off as a certain type of superconventional to me but it does.

dylannn, Tuesday, 8 February 2011 09:51 (thirteen years ago) link

but i like it like that and the only lil b trakcs i like are where he sounds like mega btw so i need to reevaluate things, maybe

dylannn, Tuesday, 8 February 2011 09:59 (thirteen years ago) link

wait so if dylannn is dylannn who is prettylikealaindelon?

hm not sure i see the point you're trying to make here, i only know him from beats on pack albums & tapes and his young len tape from last year. beats on pack stuff are more involved & also those dudes have a lot of charisma & i like the really minimalist stuff on l-e-n but i found it was a bit sparing w/o more involved raps (as did u iirc), i like that this beat has got all sorts of things going on & because of that i think the whatever it is the raps are lacking in, i don't find myself missing it as much
