I feel pathetic for genuinely liking the new wave song at the sports bar.

U R not alone.

Three Inch Killer (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 7 February 2011 07:45 (thirteen years ago) link

was very bittersweet to hear the canned Phil Hartman intro to the Wayne's World sketch

It was a pretty solid early Depeche homage, too bad the sketch around it was pretty flat.

da croupier, Monday, 7 February 2011 15:40 (thirteen years ago) link

between this and Portlandia i think Armisen is starting to show he's got a higher batting average than Samberg w/ comedic songs

some dude, Monday, 7 February 2011 15:42 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't know who their music director is or how they came up with it, but a few years ago remember the episode where somebody's at an italian restaurant and taking acid and they look at their pasta and the meatballs are new wave dancing to some synth pop? It was Heaven 17's cover of Are Everything by the Buzzcocks. Who's idea was that and how can I get their job?

dan selzer, Monday, 7 February 2011 17:48 (thirteen years ago) link

It was probably Armisen's idea.

polyphonic, Monday, 7 February 2011 17:52 (thirteen years ago) link

the opening where armison is in a record store bothers me cuz he's looking through records and the jam divider card is next to the sex pistols divider card

pajamagram sam (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 7 February 2011 18:26 (thirteen years ago) link

if that store is filing "the" bands under "T" fuck them

pajamagram sam (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 7 February 2011 18:26 (thirteen years ago) link

It's Bleeker Bobs. They have everything mixed up by a loosely defined genre system. Like there's an industrial section and behind that is a Wax Trax section and behind that is a section called "Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV/Coil/Chris & Cosey" etc. He was probably in the UK punk section.

dan selzer, Monday, 7 February 2011 18:58 (thirteen years ago) link

ah ok. i was thinking some SNL staffer moved the cards around so there would be two "cool" bands together

pajamagram sam (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 7 February 2011 19:34 (thirteen years ago) link

Btw, really disappointed that SNL is letting Chris Brown be the musical guest this weekend.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 7 February 2011 21:51 (thirteen years ago) link

they never even made a single joke at his expense on update or anything, have they?

some dude, Monday, 7 February 2011 22:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Not that I've seen, but I've missed a few episodes here and there since it happened.

Spelling note: It's Bleecker Bob's.

Borad Brains (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 7 February 2011 22:02 (thirteen years ago) link

You do know they had Guiliani host, right? He's abused millions of people.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Monday, 7 February 2011 22:06 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh come on. Fwiw, I wasn't happy to see him host either, but yer schtick is wearing a bit thin tbh.

I'm liking this so far. The British mobster movie spoof was pretty good.

He was totally cracking up.

daavid, Sunday, 13 February 2011 05:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Bearing in mind Katy Perry is apparently best buds with Rihanna, did anyone pick up on Brand's weird gesture thing in the intro for the 2nd song? And at the very end he pulled a kind of groan face after thanking Chris Brown, followed by a mention of a cut finger and, looking right at Brown, said something about a little bit of blood..?

prior, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:27 (thirteen years ago) link

I noticed that hardly any cast members were mingling with Chris Brown and his band during the final credits -- they were all far off to the side.

Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Monday, 14 February 2011 18:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Horrible episode.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Monday, 14 February 2011 18:30 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah really bad...lets just get russell brand to yell in every sketch he is in. and wtf was that sketch about tea?

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Monday, 14 February 2011 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link

I liked the time machine/George Washington sketch, which was probably the one time Brand's yelling was used to great effect.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:42 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought Weekend Update was especially solid this week, and the "British Movie" digital short was also pretty funny.

Tyler/Perry's "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" (jaymc), Monday, 14 February 2011 18:44 (thirteen years ago) link

British Movie would have been funnier if they hadn't overplayed it. Those movies are ripe for mockery without making the "I can't understand what they are saying" over and over again.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 14 February 2011 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

british movie was good, that was about it.

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Monday, 14 February 2011 19:07 (thirteen years ago) link

two weeks pass...

This was better than it could've been. I feel like the audience was kind of stingy with laughs.

Aquarian Necromancer Octopus (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 6 March 2011 11:26 (thirteen years ago) link

only watched half of it so far but not bad! Miley's not doing too much. Fred's puerto rican(dominican?) stand-up routine killed me.

dan selzer, Sunday, 6 March 2011 14:59 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah Richie Inez was great.

OLD MAN YELLS AT SHOUT RAP (chrisv2010), Monday, 7 March 2011 14:42 (thirteen years ago) link

lol

watched like half of this — taboo & apl.de.ap sketch got some good laffs outta me

i thought miley looked kind of hot during the french sketch.

probly true

save a bike, ride a hipster (bernard snowy), Monday, 7 March 2011 15:03 (thirteen years ago) link

everyone looks kind of hot if they are doing a silly enough dance t/f?

save a bike, ride a hipster (bernard snowy), Monday, 7 March 2011 15:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Yes, better ep than I expected. They used Miley well.

jaymc, Monday, 7 March 2011 16:12 (thirteen years ago) link

I've never seen Hannah Montana but I enjoyed this episode a lot. I feel Paul Brittain is getting more awkward with each sketch he's in.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

French cafe sketch was fun!

loved kings of catchphrase comedy

J0rdan S., Sunday, 13 March 2011 04:57 (thirteen years ago) link

seems like this cast is pretty good at those pre-taped rapid fire bits

J0rdan S., Sunday, 13 March 2011 04:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I just got in and the Kings of Catchphrase Comedy was the first bit I saw. SO GOOD

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 13 March 2011 04:58 (thirteen years ago) link

i liked the monologue

tehresa, Sunday, 13 March 2011 05:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 13 March 2011 05:47 (thirteen years ago) link

I liked the Galifiniakis digital short with the kids

VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 13 March 2011 08:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Your legs would look amazing in skyscraper wedges and glitter brocade leggings too, Johnny.

VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 13 March 2011 08:34 (thirteen years ago) link
