Plus, none of the Tragically Hip's songs inspired annoying singalongs in the U.S. the way that "One Week" and "If I Had $1000000" did.

Hey guys Starburns co-wrote the claymation episode. And got started in an act with Andy Dick, which explains how he got drafted in.

# Birth Death Juxtaposition: As Pierce's mom narrates how life works, Abed can be seen helping a young couple give birth in the background. Considering his role in the show he probably sought the pregnant girl out for this very reason.

I don't know if we've posted this one yet, but it's an interview with Dan Harmon from December. Goes inot the animated special, why each character got chosen for the shape they did, his thoughts on concept eps, why the zombie ep went a bit too far, etc

Do people really leap to defend BNL? I have never experienced that. The Tragically Hip, sure.

Some BNL defenders are actually pretty vociferous (I've been screamed at at least once for talking smack about them). There's probably a reason or two why, but I hate that band so fucking much I refuse to ponder said reasons.

I wouldn't think that Tragically Hip defense would take up much time, as they seem so bland and unassuming that they wouldn't really even rise to the level of a minor annoyance.

I assumed it was big bang theory dig because BNL does the theme for that.

Oh do they? HAHAHAHA

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 February 2011 13:29 (thirteen years ago) link

ok that's epic. i just thought it was a random-ass reference for yucks (i.e. "Do people really leap to defend BNL?" NOT THE JOKE) but that's great.

(though people with unbelievably shit theme tunes shouldn't throw stones.)

At this point, I'm pretty sure the theme song for Community is crappy on purpose.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 14 February 2011 13:43 (thirteen years ago) link

at this point it's just so unnecessary to even have a theme song

idgi fridays (blueski), Monday, 14 February 2011 13:45 (thirteen years ago) link

I can't count the reasons I should stay... one by one they all just fade away...

Mordy, Monday, 14 February 2011 15:21 (thirteen years ago) link

The BNL thing was the same trick as the calzone joke on Parks, but with opposite roles between the group and the individual.

Evan, Monday, 14 February 2011 15:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Well I missed a good chunk of the third act, but that was pretty awesome.

weird ep. i'm not sure if i liked it or not (tho it was chockfull of great moments i'm not sure it really came together) but good news i'm going to watch it half a dozen more times this weekend to help decide

Mordy, Friday, 18 February 2011 01:45 (thirteen years ago) link

I declared it a winner the first time I saw Troy in paralysis. If it had just one more scene of that (and it had like four), it would be the best of the season.

Keep on the good work! (R Baez), Friday, 18 February 2011 01:48 (thirteen years ago) link

i think i expected more from the pierce-is-an-ass arc conclusion, tho maybe it's not over and they still have more to go

Mordy, Friday, 18 February 2011 01:54 (thirteen years ago) link

i dont think anyone in this thread agrees with me but i could really go for an episode that doesnt have a wacky framing device

max, Friday, 18 February 2011 03:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Seriously watching Troy break down into tears after singing a surprisingly great rendition of the Reading Rainbow theme song was by far the hardest I've laughed at a television show in ages. Overall the episode wasn't the best, but oh my god Levar Burton too. And the clips of Jeff freaking out. But, yeah, Troy was an all-star tonight.

The dialogue between Britta and Jeff was pure gold. Loved this ep and think they were just setting up more for later.

can never be said enough imo.

The Troy part of this episode was fantastic, and is also a pretty fair approximation of how I would react if I ever met someone I really admired.

Pierce has become so much more dickish and unlikeable than he even was before. It's not even funny now.

Peyton Flanders (Nicole), Friday, 18 February 2011 13:25 (thirteen years ago) link

At first I was worried you were making fun of me for liking that part so much, but I feel better now. Seriously, my wife and I reminded back to that part about four times last night.

I thought that was brilliant. I seem to be the opposite of some people in that I like the show more the more high-concept it gets.

Kabletown's been making Community episodes available OnDemand really at really random and inconsistent times, so i just got to watch the last 2 episodes in a row and damn. i know they weren't like all-out trying to diss The Office/P&R or anything and some of you herbs prefer those shosw but imo they totally ethered all mockumentary shows with that ep.

The dialogue between Britta and Jeff was pure gold.

Just watched it, and ^ this can't be repeated enough. Also loved the Troy parts (I too was laughing riotously at the singing/crying Reading Rainbow theme).

Best part for me was the complisult/explanabrag.

In the AV Club interview -- http://www.avclub.com/milwaukee/articles/how-dan-harmon-went-from-doing-comedysportz-in-mil,34126/ -- Harmon said he only wants to be showrunner for the first season and then let someone else do it so he can go off and do other projects. And obviously if it's successful NBC will keep it going regardless of the creator's level of involvement. Kinda makes sense, since Harmon did the Channel 101 website and Acceptable TV series on VH1 (which was awesome and hilarious), where they'd create new mini-shows every week and let people vote on whether they come back for new episodes, so I can see how he'd get bored doing the same show for years and years.

it's funny looking back on this post now it was kind of prophetic, except Harmon didn't get bored and leave Community, he just kept himself entertained by making it a different show almost every week

some dude, Saturday, 19 February 2011 02:44 (thirteen years ago) link

i really loved Acceptable TV and was so bummed it got canceled so Community doing well feels like total vindication for me

wanted to be sad there were no Jordy LaForge joeks but Lavar is such a goldmine, it's ALL good. Glover was genius.
