Glasgow, I am up next weekend at kind of short notice. Not sure when I am available for a pint, but there will be an opportunity.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Sunday, 13 February 2011 17:46 (thirteen years ago) link

yay! There is a small football match on on Sunday, so not then.

ailsa, Sunday, 13 February 2011 17:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Immediately after it (lunchtime kick off, no?) may be a time.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Sunday, 13 February 2011 17:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Pick a suitable (i.e. not rammed with numpties who are likely to beat me up) pub and that sounds like a plan.

ailsa, Sunday, 13 February 2011 18:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Right, Sunday lunchtime is A Thing.

Suggestions for where would be good welcomed. I will be in town from about 1300, so somewhere I can get a nice lunch as well would be of benefit. Shame West Beer shut, that might have been a good plan.

I'm sure somebody will say NOT MONO at some point.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Monday, 14 February 2011 12:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I suspect anywhere on the east side of Glasgow will be rammed with people coming back from Celtic Park, and anywhere with a telly will be rammed full stop. Mono or the Note might actually be an option at this point due to lack of telly, but this entirely depends if your idea of a nice lunch involves tofu.

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 14:06 (thirteen years ago) link

eh when did west shut?

conrad, Monday, 14 February 2011 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Ah, google suggests it is open again. It shut early last year, did it not?

In which case West seems like an option, unlikely to get a football crowd and with decent food. Any objections?

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Monday, 14 February 2011 17:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Not walking through Bridgeton after an OF game :-( Wouldn't bet on it not being hoaching after the match either due to proximity to Celtic Park.

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 17:36 (thirteen years ago) link

It was open in the summer last year as we had a work day out there, btw. Someone else mentioned to me that it had shut, but I never investigated further.

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 17:37 (thirteen years ago) link

I think both Lucy and Trish have said to me independently it had shut. Oh well, pleased to be proved wrong but Ailsa probably has a point about proximity. Note, then?

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Monday, 14 February 2011 18:14 (thirteen years ago) link

What about the Pot Still? Had a couple of decent FAPs in there, can't see it being an option for the football crowds? Or, if you're after food, how's the Drum & Monkey likely to be for crowds, I can't remember if they have tellies but it never strikes me as a particularly football-watchy sort of a pub?

Are we likely to be many in number, we could probably meet somewhere then find somewhere else if necessary?

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:26 (thirteen years ago) link

hey guys what about mono

Gukbe, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:27 (thirteen years ago) link

YOU ARE HILARIOUS.

(I promise when you come over we will go to Mono and I won't complain)

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:28 (thirteen years ago) link

haha! like i could get anyone out to mono. when i come over it'll be The Belle and then Oran Mor for the more irresponsible among us.

Gukbe, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Yay stupid late nights in Oran Mor :-)

(that needs a pukey hungover emoticon, tbh)

ailsa, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Pot Still fine with me. As to numbers, you and I are the only ones that seem to be coming as yet since nobody else has said anything (although I am sure G will be with you).

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Monday, 14 February 2011 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link

the pot still is shut!

conrad, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:50 (thirteen years ago) link

j/k ;p

conrad, Monday, 14 February 2011 18:51 (thirteen years ago) link

This is why Glasgow FAPs are legendary.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Monday, 14 February 2011 19:00 (thirteen years ago) link

West was open last time I heard, but I also heard that it is rammed on football days.

Madchen, Monday, 14 February 2011 20:17 (thirteen years ago) link

aldo, just occurred to me - would you prefer a pub with a telly, or is the sight of Hibs on the telly likely to put you off your beer?

ailsa, Tuesday, 15 February 2011 13:41 (thirteen years ago) link

The latter tbh

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Tuesday, 15 February 2011 18:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Right, final decision because I'm leaving now. Pot Still, from 1300, Sunday 20th Feb.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Thursday, 17 February 2011 16:25 (thirteen years ago) link

I'll not be there until later, game doesn't kick off until 12.30 so won't be back in city centre until nearer 3pm...

ailsa, Thursday, 17 February 2011 20:07 (thirteen years ago) link

I know, I was only trying to drum up enthusiasm in case anyone is tempted to join us.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Thursday, 17 February 2011 20:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Due to lack of interest I will be an hour or so later.

progspeed you! black metallers (aldo), Sunday, 20 February 2011 11:55 (thirteen years ago) link

Hooray for Glasgow miniFAPpage!

ailsa, Sunday, 20 February 2011 17:20 (thirteen years ago) link

I watched it on the telly, he was a good yard onside watching it again so As You Were.

Surprised that no-one has mention the Kelvingrove thing on Friday here...

Did anyone go? What are anyone's thoughts?

food critic-esque fanny (krakow), Sunday, 1 May 2011 21:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha, jim, I retweeted that earlier. Quality.

ailsa, Sunday, 1 May 2011 23:03 (thirteen years ago) link

That was round about my hood in Govanhill—it's gone now :)

three months pass...

World War Z starts filming today in the city centre.

Already a bit of talk about Brad Pitt knocking about town. Apparently he went into The Good Spirits Co. to ask for Buckfast yesterday.

just call me brian (krakow), Monday, 15 August 2011 08:04 (twelve years ago) link

He was in Paisley last week apparently, looking around the Coats Memorial church.

ailsa, Monday, 15 August 2011 11:56 (twelve years ago) link

Also, they were filming World War Z in Malta when I was there last month. I think Brad's stalking me, tbh.

ailsa, Monday, 15 August 2011 11:57 (twelve years ago) link

Yes, that will be exactly what's happening.

Madchen, Monday, 15 August 2011 12:21 (twelve years ago) link

What other reason could he have for being in Paisley :)

ailsa, Monday, 15 August 2011 12:58 (twelve years ago) link

Prince fan?

Madchen, Monday, 15 August 2011 13:02 (twelve years ago) link

Probably just researching aimless shambling undead characters for his film, I reckon.

ailsa, Monday, 15 August 2011 13:14 (twelve years ago) link

"The location manager for World War Z said Glasgow had been chosen because of its architecture, wide roads and grid layout."

A41 (admrl), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 18:14 (twelve years ago) link

I am tempted to move to Glasgow. Bear in mind I've never been, but still.

A41 (admrl), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 18:14 (twelve years ago) link

Glasgow is great in most respects, apart from the weather.

Neil S, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 18:45 (twelve years ago) link

Weather gives it character.

scotstvo, Tuesday, 16 August 2011 18:47 (twelve years ago) link

two weeks pass...

PJ Harvey tonight at the Concert Hall - is anyone else going? Could well be rather special.

just call me brian (krakow), Sunday, 4 September 2011 11:25 (twelve years ago) link

I was there. She sang remarkably. It was not a rock gig, despite the dancing in the aisles by one or two (which I found admirable). I've now seen her more times in Glasgow than anyone else I've seen in Glasgow. First show: 1993, Rid of Me tour, Barrowlands - I am old, maybe, but if so then so is she, but she doesn't seem old, so maybe I also am not old.

Eyeball Kicks, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 21:21 (twelve years ago) link

why are you in glasgow

conrad, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 21:30 (twelve years ago) link

I thought it rather sublime.

Here's a long-distance 'my seats were nowhere as good as I'd hoped' photo...

just call me brian (krakow), Tuesday, 6 September 2011 21:55 (twelve years ago) link

If conrad's question is to me: I live in Glasgow, which is the last place on the planet I would've chosen to be in, say, 2003. But for now it's home!

The photo above was my view exactly. Unless there was a lot of zoom used, the photographer must've been in my vicinity.

Eyeball Kicks, Tuesday, 6 September 2011 22:15 (twelve years ago) link

ah I thought you lived in london
