why no one wants to visit writing lab when i are here?

When I spent two semesters working in the Writing Center at my college, I often wondered the same thing. Then some Chinese grad student would come in with an Electrical Engineering paper and I would long for those lonesome times...

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I fear that. I had to help three marketing students yesterday, but that was pretty easy. Technically, I am the humanities/business tutor, so I can always pass off the chemistry/engineering/aerospace freakos to the tech writing tutors.

Anyway, this is infinitely better than where I used to work. No complaining here.

I'm just lonely. :(

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:27 (seventeen years ago) link

LISTEN UP PEOPLE.

I will be at Old Timer's on 75 East Lake Street at approximately 5:45 pm today. Tell me that you will be there, too. Don't make me clean the bathroom sober, okay?

Note: If someone has a strong preference for a different bar, I am totally down with it. I like Old Timer's because it's cheap, there's a saucy big-breasted bartender, and a ton of cursing union dudes. Also, I think they serve beer in plastic buckets instead of pitchers.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh. I think I can swing that.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:35 (seventeen years ago) link

That bar sounds awesome.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I like Old Timer's because it's cheap, there's a saucy big-breasted bartender,

named arman.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Fun fact: when I was in 5th grade, I drew a comic strip called Old Timers, featuring a geriatric couple named Frank and Bertha. Some of the strips were recylced Garfield gags.

I feel like I've probably mentioned this before.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:36 (seventeen years ago) link

You have. I remember.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Amanda remembers all!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:38 (seventeen years ago) link

I think you told us about a certain plotline, but I've forgotten what it was. Maybe you told us about how it devolved into something grossly unfunny and you stopped? I can't remember. I do remember the "geriatric couple cartoon" part though.

NEVER FORGET

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Minor bummers:

--My Tortoise rarities comp never showed up. The post office says it was delivered, but I never got it and the apartment office says they don't have it.

--My bass drum case was a victim of the war on terror. After the TSA got through with it it had two broken straps (out of three) and one side completely dented in. I'll have to buy a new one. On the plus side, the drum is fine and the case was pretty old and rickety anyway.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Who will remember the rememberers?!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Jordan -- want me to throw in a mp3 disc of the Tortoise box set along with the Klosterman book I am mailing to you tomorrow?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:40 (seventeen years ago) link

That would be amazing.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Powerhouse Sound (JP, JH, KV and NMcB) at the Hideout next Wed, I think? (Speaking of Tortoise). The movie is done, by the way. In case anyone cares. It's going out to festivals. (Speaking of KV)

Jordan, you totally deserve some T(ortoise)LC. [slapping knee like old person]

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:43 (seventeen years ago) link

DIDJA MISS ME?!?!?!??! Grandma's BACK.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Jordan: Done.

Amanda: Nice work, Dan. When can we plebes see it? (Also who is JH? Assuming the rest are Parker, Vandermark, and McBride.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Herndon.

The plebes can see it...hmm, well. I dunno. We're having all SORTS of computer probs lately, namely making DVD copies, so who knows. But I will keep you apprised of developments. Also we can make copies of Sheriff now too, if anyone cares.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Thanks, John.

JH = John Herndon.

Oh fuck. That lineup sounds rad.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:49 (seventeen years ago) link

They are rad. I saw this lineup at Schubas in..April? It's worth a trip to the Hideout.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:50 (seventeen years ago) link

And yes, yo quiero ver "Sheriff."

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay, John is in.

Kevin? Dan Martin? Amanda?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I am very much looking forward to seeing the KV doc! What's it called? And is Powerhouse Sound in it? Like I've said, that sounds like an ass-kicking and promising lineup (as long as KV has written some tunes for them).

Yenny: I wish I could, but I get off work at 4 -- can't you be there earlier?

Yes, PS is in it! It's called Musician. Like Sheriff. Tentatively scheduled for 2007 is Truck Driver No joke.

I hope that it gets accepted to some festivals and/or we score a plum Chicago screening. Maybe with q/a?

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Sweet. He can release a dvd boxset of all three called "The Dudes with Jobs Trilogy" or something.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Hopefully there will be more than three, and they won't all be dudes. That's the idea, anyway. Turkel + Wiseman.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I get off work at five. BOO! I am saying 5:45 because by the time I get out of the office and wheel my books over to the bar, that's probably closer to what time it will be. (Yes, yes, my books are in a wheelie bag today and for that I apologize most sincerely. I only do this when I have to.)

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:58 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm probably going to take a pass as i'll be heading up to the holiday club later this evening. unless you want to go FROM old timers TO holiday club. it's only a few blocks away from your new digs i'd imagine (i don't remember your exact address).

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 7 September 2006 17:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Is this Weekly Drinks? I can probs make it next week. I will make sure that I can, in fact. (Barring any surprises, of course.)

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Who's Turkel? I was about to say "SOMEONE's got a Frederick Wiseman fetish."

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:00 (seventeen years ago) link

The jass boards are hip to it:

Oh, duh, Terkel. Studs.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Sorry, I misspelled?

And boards! I'll have to tell the mister!!

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Wiseman figured heavily in our courtship. [html for hearts]

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Misspelled yeah, but I was also being dense.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:02 (seventeen years ago) link

OH that's right. I forgot about the Holiday Club. Sorry Kevin - I was being dense there. Intellectually fucking lazy, you might damn well say.

John, could you take it to the Holiday Club?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, 'manda, I have a friend with a wall projector (and a big white wall), so if you wanted to do an underground screening for your homies, we could do it.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:05 (seventeen years ago) link

This could well be the start of weekly drinks, I daresay.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:05 (seventeen years ago) link

My only plan was to be home by no later than 8:30 so that I can drive down to Subterranean for the comedy show. I don't care where I am beforehand. Old Timers and then Holiday Club is fine because it's roughly on the way back to my place anyway. But I'm also probably not going to drink too much since I'm driving.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, if you're having weekly drinks next week, you can count me in. Tonight I have to grocery shop and get ready for class tomorrow.

Thanks EZ -- I'll tell the mister.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:09 (seventeen years ago) link

I am really making the most of my downtime here, aren't I.

The Milkmaid (82375538-A) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh I was thinking more Holiday Club instead of Old Timer's. I don't have it in me to go to two bars with a wheelie bag full of books and then go home and clean the bathroom. But I'll go either place. I know Jeff would prefer Old Timer's. Dan mentioned wanting to go downtown, so perhaps his preference can serve as the deciding vote.

I feel bad for taking Kevin's drink offer and hijacking it to a different bar. I totally didn't mean to do that - I forgot he'd mentioned the HC.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm cool with either. I am sort of curious about Old Timers, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:15 (seventeen years ago) link

Okay, if Kevin doesn't hate me for it let's go to Old Timer's.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

So is the scheduled Bathroom Cleaning Night, or is it an urgency-based project?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 7 September 2006 18:18 (seventeen years ago) link

no worries jenny but this should definitely be the start of our standing appointment for beverages.
