*grumbles*

as an aside---there was this basement sale that the owner of an apartment building i lived in with my mother (when i still lived with her and was probably about 14 or so) had. and he had amassed an insane amount of vinyl---mostly 33RPM, but some 78s and some 45s as well. he sold the whole lot to my mother for $10. $10!

she was excited at first, but then after hauling it up to our 3rd floor apartment, she never did anything with it---she meant to wash it all and perhaps find a 78 player, but she never did. eventually, rather than drag them down to the Salvation Army that was just at the corner from our house, she tossed them all out in the alley. >E she waited till i wasn't home to ~~stop~~ help her, too. rather than someone else at least getting use and joy out of them, she just threw them away.

i'm sure someone came by and probably scooped them up from the trash, but still. what a waste! :(

Ned's is big, but I always remember the tremble of fear on noticing Martin casually mention that he has music by eight thousand different artists.

i knew someone like that, too---also called Martin. maybe it's a side effect of having that name conferred upon you? :)

I play football with a guy called Martin (two, in fact) and he keeps a notebook/diary thing in which he marks each and every day of his life out of ten. An average grind day gets about a three. He's given himself two tens in his life, I think, and one of them was when he was at school and went on a field trip. He also keeps notes on every game of football he's ever played (he must be nearly 40 now) and notes down goals scored even just casual kickabouts. Lovely bloke. Works at the university in finance.

It must be creeping up towards about 250 CD albums, 50 bits of vinyl of various sizes, and maybe 30 CD singles. All except about 10 things were bought, and I am only 20 so give me time.

Yeah, I have music by, current count on the database, 8,093 acts. But that amounts to far fewer albums than you think because I'm so keen on variety and I love comps and pick up odd things everywhere. And most of my stuff isn't on CD - I've got something like 2,000 CDs, I guess. I've certainly got far less than Ned and others here.

My record collection is shrinking!

well the 7" part is increasing and the CDs are down to around 45
theres about 500 7" (good ones)
and about 300 LPs (good ones)

i hate these dick measuring contests, but i just wanted to toss in there that a close friend of mine, who's been a writer for many many years, has 40,000 cds. it's just ridiculous.
