No one going to explain the ilx murderer and/or wife beater?
iirc someone posted a few times (on a thread about people having violent thoughts maybe?) and then later went on to murder someone? I think he signed his name as his posting name is how it all came together. My memory might be playing tricks though.

household name
gibson's pretty rad, like the dude is on a 24/7 sci-fi trip and can't really seem to shake predicting the future. this was a recent one:
"I imagine that all purpose-built book-reading units will be relics soon enough. Analog watch > digital watch > cell phone."
but he tweets to fucking hell, honestly racking up to 20per day, mostly replies to things ppl have to say. very into it, i guess.

FINALLY sorted the people whose tweets i actually care about 100% of the time into a list - along w/turning off retweets by the worst offenders this is changing my life
and i thiiiiink making the list private means no one else can see whether they're on it or not #fistpump

Mine too. I'm down to ~75 following (all people I actually speak to), retweets from most of those are blocked, and now I'm actually using Twitter again.

Between Xmas and New Year, I tried to reduce my "following" list from 100 to 50, but ended up at around 60 - which is just about manageable, for someone who prefers to at least skim-read every tweet. I ended up unfollowing some very nice people and some people I've met many times offline, but (a tiny handful of exceptions aside) I never feel obliged to follow anyone in perpetuity. With some, I dip and out; following for a while, muting for a while, then resuming a few months later. And yeah, I've blocked retweets from a small number of over-sharers.

Here's what I block:
• Tweets that are nothing more than replies to other tweets.• People who offer links without explaining what their linking to. ("Oh, nothing more than a http://inwjt.us/234s? Let me at it!")• Anyone who habitually makes more than six tweets in a given hour.• Live tweeting sports or music events.

@crazed_Fan: That's right, I forgot you were there!
@TheRealShaq: Forgot all about that night at Palms #smirnoff.
@juju_buttah: Maybe around Friday?
@Ace_Frehley: AWESOME!

When someone doesn't actually post anything, but only replies to other tweeters.
Ahhhh.
― Fannypack's "Camel Toe" (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link
But you can't see replies in your dashboard!

I logged into twitter and I have no idea hoa all the @ and RT and circular ouroboros arrows work
― Neu! romancer (dayo), Wednesday, 2 March 2011 23:31 (thirteen years ago) link
If you click the retweet button, that tweet will show up for people who follow you (unless they have turned off retweets by you).
If you write "RT" manually, it will show up for everyone who follows you even if they've turned off retweets.
If you begin a tweet with @charliesheen, people will not see it in their feed unless they also follow @charliesheen.
If you do not begin a tweet with @, that tweet will show up in your feed for everyone who follows you.

He's using the // convention of RTing. Which is the same as our italic quoting -- the // splits the quote and the reply. Eg
“@JasonIsbell: Daryl Hall and Joyce Carol Oates? Can we make this happen?”//Wait -- COULD we?

I stopped following Twitter last year because it was getting boring. The only time it was half way interesting was when people would post photos or leak material.
