I slot them in with nu-cosmic synth stuff like oneohtrix, emeralds, stellar om source, etc. but yeah very cool track

their rework of Synthesist on the Harald Grosskopf reissue is good too

i ride hard for that blondes album, was sorta disappointed that it got lost in the mix last year- pretty euphoric stuff. i sorta file them with teengirl fantasy (who were a lot more high profile in certain publications) namely because they are both from oberlin and on merok but they have fairly similar sounds too imo. not very balearic, more trancey if you ask me?

and yes i need to find a copy of that synthesist rework, the samples are outstanding

My god "The Laziest River" is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.

Tim F, Saturday, 26 February 2011 11:35 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm hoping he's been playing that live, but i don't think it's likely

i found a copy of those groskopf covers (thank u btw) and i'm pretty into it. especially the arp one

Some of you might want this
"A Jean Giraud" album I made a few years back. I dunno?

i forgot that was your ILM name. i listened to most of it yesterday. really beautiful

jaxon, Thursday, 3 March 2011 21:32 (thirteen years ago) link

yep i'm a fan too, i have the vinyl with 1-3. did you physically release any of the rest?

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 3 March 2011 22:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Thanks guys!

a lagoon... - the same label that released 1-3 also put #5 on a compilation about a year back. Cd/digital only I think. I wanted people to hear the rest of these so decided to post them on SC. No plans for a physical release of the whole thing but I would love to sometime down the road.

Also bought the 12" TINAE. Listen to it a lot.

mmmm, Thursday, 3 March 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Not sure if this is balearic as such but considering shelling out for the vinyl

last time i had a whole bunch of paypal cash from selling records on ebay, i told myself i was gonna stop buying lots of cheap records and shell out for a few really expensive ones. this was top of the list. i ended up buying lots of cheap records

jaxon, Thursday, 3 March 2011 23:04 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, I always do that. Then, when I do pay out it gets a reissue a month or so down the line; Harry Thumann - Andromeda!

mmmm, Thursday, 3 March 2011 23:07 (thirteen years ago) link

i really love this brian bennett track

Lamp, Thursday, 3 March 2011 23:11 (thirteen years ago) link

I've been listening to the Test Pressing Phil Mison mix again recently too. I love how it's bordering on complete new age-ness. I almost expect to hear Deep Forest or Paul Hardcastle or something.

mmmm, Thursday, 3 March 2011 23:21 (thirteen years ago) link

^ which one? i think he has a bunch on test pressing. the cafe del mar one is pretty much complete new age-ness as you say, if you like that you should definitely also check out the padilla mixes if you haven't already

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Friday, 4 March 2011 00:14 (thirteen years ago) link

also there are loads of cheap records that sound like that brian bennett track. i've never seen an overpriced new age section in any record store ever

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Friday, 4 March 2011 00:17 (thirteen years ago) link

except for Innovative Communication records :(

jaxon, Friday, 4 March 2011 02:15 (thirteen years ago) link

also, that song is not why i would buy that record

jaxon, Friday, 4 March 2011 02:20 (thirteen years ago) link

is it for the free poster + digital download?

Lamp, Friday, 4 March 2011 02:32 (thirteen years ago) link

worth it for "solstice" alone imo

yea, wow. bubble club releases have been so damn solid so far, the stuff on this new 12 might be the best so far

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 16 March 2011 20:10 (thirteen years ago) link

so far so far blah

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 16 March 2011 20:11 (thirteen years ago) link

i love how despite being really chilled out & relaxed it's also, like, emotionally overwhelming

flopson, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 20:58 (thirteen years ago) link

not sure if it was mentioned on this thread or the aeroplane one, but this poolside track is getting released soon and it is great. at least one of these ppl is from sf i think?

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 17 March 2011 17:37 (thirteen years ago) link

the jacques renault remix isn't shabby either, a bit deeper/moodier but with new/better female vocals

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 17 March 2011 17:50 (thirteen years ago) link

jeffr0desiac used to live in sf but i think is in la now. he used to throw that nu rave electro banger coked out art school college party Blow Up w/r1chie pan1c. i didn't want to like it, but i really dig that song. i actually dislike the new vocals way more than the original.

very groovy

skip, Friday, 15 April 2011 15:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Does anyone know what that super balearic jam at the 42 minute mark of that Psychemagik mix is?

groovypanda, Friday, 15 April 2011 20:29 (thirteen years ago) link

This Psychemagik mix is very good from start to finish, would really love a track listing.

JacobSanders, Friday, 15 April 2011 22:20 (thirteen years ago) link

track at 42 sounds a lot like double's 'the captain of her heart'.

craig carl (or something), Friday, 15 April 2011 23:15 (thirteen years ago) link

the track at 42 minutes startes at 40:39, right? It's not quite captain of her heart.

JacobSanders, Saturday, 16 April 2011 00:19 (thirteen years ago) link

not quite but it sounds a lot like it.

craig carl (or something), Saturday, 16 April 2011 00:46 (thirteen years ago) link

fuuuck what version of naive melody is that

― gr8080, Saturday, 16 April 2011 03:33

I'd love to know that too. Psychemagik have actually done an edit of that song but it's not that edit in the mix.

groovypanda, Monday, 18 April 2011 09:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Also has a go at a tracklisting over the weekend and came up with this so far:

17:57 - Don Cherry - Universal Mother
23:50 - Sopwith Camel - Fazon
27:17 - ??
31:31 - Psychemagik - Valley Of Paradise
40:39 - ??
47:45 - ??
52:06 - Gino Vanelli - People Gotta Move
55:20 - Marcos Valle - Estrelar

groovypanda, Monday, 18 April 2011 10:56 (thirteen years ago) link

The Almunia album on Claremont 56 arrived in the post yesterday and sounds pretty fucking great. Lovely summer vibes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmpzaDBrgEA

groovypanda, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 08:22 (thirteen years ago) link

^ claremont 56 might have the most easily distinguishable sound of any label i've ever heard. this is not nec a bad thing, but i definitely prefer stuff like that where they play up the spaciness and tone down the adult contemporary side a bit. all the other almunia stuff on soundcloud is pretty good also

the gatto fritto full length on ifeel just got an official release and it's pretty great too

a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 18:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I'd imagine the "This Must Be The Place" edit is them: http://www.discogs.com/Psychemagik-This-Must-Be-The-Place-Everywhere/release/2586989

Bangelo, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 19:04 (thirteen years ago) link

no, their this must be the place edit is an edit of the original (its good!); the one in the mix is a cover

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Wednesday, 20 April 2011 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

xpost Hey, didn't read the thread, ignore that

Bangelo, Wednesday, 20 April 2011 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, farts. The "Everywhere" edit is good also
