JUDY JUDY JUDY JUDY

This seems as good a place as any to let the world know that every time I think about Mr. Rogers, I hear the Mr. Rogers song and at the end when he goes "please won't you be my neighbor?" I always hear neighbor neighbor NEIGHBOR NEIGHBOR WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
NA NA na na NANANANA

and then Hey Jude takes over.

Every single time.

I won't ask how often you think about Mr. Rogers, but that's pretty damn funny.

If only McCartney had done a fake-out fade for "Hey Jude", they could have extended it to 9 or 10 minutes!

Are you 15

calstars, Saturday, 1 October 2022 20:21 (one year ago) link

If I were 15, I wouldn't know what "Hey Jude" was.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Saturday, 1 October 2022 20:23 (one year ago) link

How could you be over 15 and not be aware that some people don’t like hey Jude
If this is just challops then you win

“Imagine” is the only song everybody loves

Every Beatles song has millions of people who don’t like it, but “Hey Jude” is one of the more inexplicable cases (to me). It’s my favorite Beatles song, as “Suspicious Minds” is my favorite Elvis song.

There was a discussion over on the karaoke thread about "Hey Jude" that might be relevant here.

A poll I put up a few years ago:

Take a Sad Song and Extract Every Last Ounce of Spontaneity from It: the Beatles Uber-Ballad Poll

I like "Hey Jude" fine, and don't group it in with "The Long and Winding Road"; it won this poll, but I realize lots of people hate it.

Sparks, "Rockin' Girls":

You're the only girl I ever met who hates "Hey Jude"
That must be the reason that I'm so in love with you

If we're honest though, this poll was a tie. Elvis double-tracked his lead vocal, McCartney didn't. Therefore 56 votes divided by 2 vocal tracks = 28.

I know plenty of sad souls who do not like the Beatles in general. I have never known anyone who harbored a particular hate for "Hey Jude." Maybe I've just been lucky.

Also, the margin of victory for "Suspicious Minds" is inexplicable to me.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Monday, 3 October 2022 16:21 (one year ago) link

It doesn't have Elvis hyperventilating and going "Judy Judy " at the end.
