Also cannot wait for inevitable Western ep, esp since the Western idiom is so much about community formation.

Per Variety: NBC renews OFFICE, COMMUNITY, PARKS & REC.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Thursday, 17 March 2011 19:56 (thirteen years ago) link

YES! Considering 30 was already picked up, that means at least one more year of fun (and potentially one year of the most awkward Office episodes ever).

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 March 2011 19:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Fuck yeah!

Mordy, Thursday, 17 March 2011 19:58 (thirteen years ago) link

we we we so excited

I just put four notches in the table (labeled "FUN")

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:13 (thirteen years ago) link

should do a community tertiary characters poll to celebrate

nu rave electro banger coked out art school college party (Lamp), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:14 (thirteen years ago) link

great news.

tending tropics (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Fuck yeah. I wonder what class they'll get stuck in next.

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link

xp You don't think Chang would win in a walk?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:15 (thirteen years ago) link

he's more of a secondary character, isn't he? tertiary would be more like Leonard and Magnitude

some dude, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:18 (thirteen years ago) link

he's more of a secondary character, isn't he?

yeah thats why i want to do a tertiary character poll - like ppl that have been in multiple episodes but not ft'd roles

nu rave electro banger coked out art school college party (Lamp), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Dan Harmon has been talking to people on Twitter about Bioware RPGs for the last two hours and took a break to announce this.

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Star Burns, the dean...is the dean secondary though? Because he'd trounce Lenny and 'tude.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:20 (thirteen years ago) link

In that case, I vote for the cute girl who was hanging around with Annie while Britta was mistaking that other girl for a lesbian.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:20 (thirteen years ago) link

there's also abed's roomie whatshisname

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:23 (thirteen years ago) link

And Garrett. Fuckin' love that guy.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:24 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah garrett is great! looked it up on wikipedia and man this show is packed with amazing peripheral characters, it's not just about annie's boobs

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:29 (thirteen years ago) link

i mentioned this on this thread before but it turns out fat neil has been in the background of episodes before his role in the DnD ep.

Mordy, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:31 (thirteen years ago) link

I remember him first being mentioned in the episode before; John Oliver calls on "Fat Neil," and he says, "Um, just 'Neil' is fine." Did he appear before that, though?

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:32 (thirteen years ago) link

he's not even just in the background, is called by his name fat neil in the episode before the DnD one iirc.

or what he said.

tending tropics (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:33 (thirteen years ago) link

worst tertiary character = john oliver.

tending tropics (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:34 (thirteen years ago) link

i like oliver. is it a british thing to hate on him?

sonderangerbot, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:35 (thirteen years ago) link

haha jon oliver annoys me but i consider him a 'secondary' character also i started that poll

nu rave electro banger coked out art school college party (Lamp), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:37 (thirteen years ago) link

For some reason, I love Oliver on Community, hate him on everything else. Ditto Chevy Chase.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:38 (thirteen years ago) link

I love Oliver on The Daily Show, less so on Community, and don't really think much of his stand up.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

i like oliver. is it a british thing to hate on him?

i dunno, i just think he's really unfunny. anecdote about him: some acquiantance of mine saw him do stand-up, in brighton iirc, when he was a total unkown. he bombed and was getting wildly heckled, he started ranting, and not like righteous, witty vituperation, just straight saying, "shut up, you're just too stupid to understand my material". couple of months later he's on american tv. go figure.

tending tropics (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

in community i think the writing is pretty weak for him, lots of "in britain we call it a [comedy name for a commonplace thing]" or whatever. like, lol, the wacky brit prof.

tending tropics (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

omg best news everrrr, i was legit feeling sorrowful at the prospect of this show getting canceled.

accredited butter grader and dairy technologist (reddening), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

i just enjoy oliver's delivery of things, even when his lines aren't partic. strong

The radio show he did with Andy Zalzman, "The Department" was hilarious and his daily show writers would do well to listen to it, much better than his Daily Show stuff.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 17 March 2011 20:44 (thirteen years ago) link

He and Andy still do a weekly podcast, "The Bugle."

Crazed Mister Handy (kingfish), Thursday, 17 March 2011 23:01 (thirteen years ago) link

indeed, but the department was better

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Thursday, 17 March 2011 23:14 (thirteen years ago) link

britta's cheekbones MVP of the rest of the show

"sourface"

Mordy, Friday, 18 March 2011 00:23 (thirteen years ago) link

Good ep. Like the incidental use of "Tall Kyle" by Britta - arbitrary throw-away detail.

i didn't get the ending (at the table). could someone explain?

bakumastah, Friday, 18 March 2011 01:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Presumably what the actual study sessions are like, minus wacky shenanigans and sub-plots.

the devices they were using were progressively more modern, but not sure i got it other than that

rockapads, Friday, 18 March 2011 04:32 (thirteen years ago) link

I didn't see the whole thing because my DVR cut it off. Thought the joke was that Pearce was using a calculator when everyone else was texting or something. What devices were everyone using?

dan selzer, Friday, 18 March 2011 04:37 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah you're right, i re-watched the end. jeff = texting on phone, annie = laptop, shirley = phone texting, pierce = old adding machine, troy droid 2 looking thing, abed = ipad 2 it looked like, britta = txting on phone

rockapads, Friday, 18 March 2011 04:42 (thirteen years ago) link

i think its mostly just an observational joke abt how much time ppl spend texting or w/e when theyre hanging out w/ friends

nu rave electro banger coked out art school college party (Lamp), Friday, 18 March 2011 04:44 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah maybe so. also looked like troy & abed may have both been gaming

rockapads, Friday, 18 March 2011 04:45 (thirteen years ago) link

old adding machine? I'm not THAT old but it looked like just a regular old calculator. Not like he whipped out an abacus or something!

dan selzer, Friday, 18 March 2011 04:54 (thirteen years ago) link

ha, yeah, you're right. guess i was thinking of this http://www.kegcoat.com/howtoguides/AddingMachine.htm
