What happened to Noodles?!

Ralpharina (La Lechera), Sunday, 13 March 2011 05:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Hate Jessie J's music if you must, but you can't deny she has amazing legs.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 13 March 2011 05:47 (thirteen years ago) link

I liked the Galifiniakis digital short with the kids

VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 13 March 2011 08:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Your legs would look amazing in skyscraper wedges and glitter brocade leggings too, Johnny.

VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 13 March 2011 08:34 (thirteen years ago) link

theres gonna be hella boning in yr farter

johnny crunch, Sunday, 13 March 2011 16:47 (thirteen years ago) link

I just watched this again four times in a row.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 13 March 2011 17:13 (thirteen years ago) link

So funny, loved that one

VegemiteGrrl, Sunday, 13 March 2011 17:29 (thirteen years ago) link

This has got to be one of the best opening monologues I've ever seen.

Sheneneh et Caro (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 16 March 2011 18:24 (thirteen years ago) link

His last one was hilarious too. I have to admit to thinking last week's Miley episode was generally funnier though, despite the less funny host.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 19:09 (thirteen years ago) link

The On Demand version fades out early. Did he play the piano again?

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 19:20 (thirteen years ago) link

No. Oh man, I'm assuming you didn't see the Annie tribute because of copyright issues with the song? Did it fade out before the dress?

dan selzer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 19:29 (thirteen years ago) link

Yes. Definitely before the dress.

Not sure why he had a mohawk at the end either.

Pleasant Plains, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 19:39 (thirteen years ago) link

He took off his clothes and was wearing a Little Orphan Annie dress and he sang Tomorrow while showing funny comments on a giant pad.

The mohawk thing was a total joke. Last time he was on, he shaved his beard 3/4 of the way through. This time he just came on at the end with the mohawk and made a joke about the Mr. T skit being cut.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 19:40 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah the monologue was excellent - loved that moment when he's in the Annie dress where he stops and flashes his underpants

VegemiteGrrl, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 20:13 (thirteen years ago) link

was wondering where the Annie part was on hulu, thought I had dreamt it

two weeks pass...

elton john looks terrifying

johnny crunch, Sunday, 3 April 2011 04:12 (thirteen years ago) link

That's why Leon Russell is on stage near him. Knock down the Chuckie-as-an-old-man thing.

BTW did anyone else not hear Leon at all during the first song and most of the second?

This was the SNL version of Eric Clapton on a 2010s Rolling Stone cover.

balls, Sunday, 3 April 2011 16:29 (thirteen years ago) link

tbh I am a little impressed that this bland an episode came in April! Usually they start losing it in January.

GLOWER METAL (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 4 April 2011 01:56 (thirteen years ago) link

I just don't get these shows where Elton John is the host but Tom Hanks is hanging around, killing it.

Like dan aykroyd playing bob dole and 1990s Tom Snyder even though he wasn't the real host.

ᓇᐃᑦᑐᒥᒃ ᐅᖃᓕᒫᕐᕕᒃ (Pleasant Plains), Monday, 4 April 2011 02:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Why did Carmelo even bother to show up.

reggaeton for the painfully alone (polyphonic), Monday, 4 April 2011 02:06 (thirteen years ago) link

iirc Aykroyd had a weird superstition about not hosting SNL for years and years and would only do little cameo appearances until finally hosting in like 2003

bernard so icey (some dude), Monday, 4 April 2011 02:08 (thirteen years ago) link

OK finally watching the episode -- you guys were way too rough on Elton imo, the monologue and the Knights of the Realm sketch were lol

when Will Forte showed up for the ESPN sketch, I wonder what percentage of the audience thought "hey it's former cast member Will Forte returning to reprise one of his running characters" and what percentage never even registered that he hasn't been on the show this season. when I watch the show on demand, NBC's parent company Xfinity still lists "Will Forte, (host name)" as the 2 stars of the show on the menu anytime I pull up a new episode.

NBC's parent company Xfinity

what

jaymc, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 14:10 (thirteen years ago) link

I caught it from Knights of the Realm onward and thought Elton was hilarious

Hanks on SNL reminds me of why I used to like him

NBC's parent company Xfinity

― jaymc, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 10:10 AM (4 minutes ago) Bookmark

i guess i phrased that poorly; Comcast is the parent company and Xfinity is Comcast's rebranded name for their cable service

Turn My Slag On (some dude), Tuesday, 5 April 2011 14:16 (thirteen years ago) link

OK.

Re Forte, I definitely thought, "Man, I wonder how guys like Paul Brittain feel when the show puts on sketches where more than half the performers are neither cast members nor the host." (Had to do a Twitter search to figure out that was Carmelo Anthony.)

jaymc, Tuesday, 5 April 2011 14:33 (thirteen years ago) link

Hanks on SNL reminds me of why I used to like him

He seems like such a decent dude w/a good sense of humor. But his movies suck. It's all been downhill since Bachelor Party.

GLOWER METAL (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 6 April 2011 05:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I wish he'd do more comedy that showed his natural style, the way he is on SNL or the way he is with Conan

VegemiteGrrl, Wednesday, 6 April 2011 05:21 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah it's such a waste that Hanks has made like 2 non-animated comedies in the last decade and one of them was The Ladykillers. he's so ready to be hilarious at any given moment but so rarely takes the opportunity. almost a shame he's too big a star to ever star in a TV series.

Watching Dave Grohl ham it up at the end was more entertaining than those 2 Foo Fighters songs his band did

Made me pretty happy that he worked "arrondissement" into it.

Kenan as Teddy Roosevelt was pretty awesome

curmudgeon, Monday, 11 April 2011 11:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Maybe I'm too close to the theater world (or too easily amused) but I thought the Hugh Jackman sketch was hilarious, especially Kenan as Ice Cube.
