great interview w/ drumma talking about his big tracks w/ gucci, mentions confusion about why no one pushed 'beat it up'

really feelin "on some other shit" & "shadow of death" off black hippy. former reminds me of the cuts w/ dilated peoples & medaphoar & oh no on the first lootpack album the way the verses trade off abruptly & come in w/ these weird flows (black hippy, that's all i need to get busy/turn your music to a frisbee then make your bitch frisk me). can't say i f/w most of the rest though, had to skip thru quite a few verses

flopson, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 04:49 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i mean i dont take it real serious as a release its just sorta fun like some old heiro ish

deej, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 04:53 (thirteen years ago) link

i like 'try me' a lot too

deej, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 05:00 (thirteen years ago) link

oh that saigon album finally came out? i guess i'll give it a listen though it seems like his style is out of time by at least 4 or 5 years now

ciderpress, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 05:20 (thirteen years ago) link

well that's literally how old the songs on the album are, so can't really fault it for that

"When we first met, we really didn't talk about doing business; we talked about music the whole time," says Danny of what endeared him to Fool's Gold. "That was the illest thing to me, because I sat down with a lot of labels and all we were talking about was, 'How can we make this project work?' and this and that. Fool's Gold was all about being fans of music, and 'How can we make Danny Brown better?' I didn't know they were such huge hip-hop nerds. A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs, you think of dance music, but they're real knowledgeable with everything."

"Fool's Gold is thrilled to bring Danny Brown into our family," says A-Trak. "We've been supporting his music on our blog for a long time, so we're fans of his before anything else. Danny Brown represents a return to raw, gritty rap. His skills can't be questioned. He sounds and looks like no one out there, and that's something that appeals to us. We share the same grassroots values, and we can't wait to get behind his new album!" Stay tuned for more details on Danny's inaugural Fool's Gold release.

kinda stoked for the 80 Blocks From Tiffany's project by Pete Rock and Camp Lo

http://nahright.com/news/2011/03/15/80-blocks-from-tiffanys-pete-rock-camp-lo-mic-check/

this song is okay, always love Camp Lo, but i'd like to hear them over a more lush/smooth beat...

ive been reading 'decoded' -- its amazing how incredibly well constructed 'where im from' is, lyrically ... that song is basically perfect

lol it's deej, quite obv

J0rdan S., Saturday, 19 March 2011 02:33 (thirteen years ago) link

b/w that song & the joint with dro i think i've been convinced into giving the forthcoming travis barker album an hour of my time

J0rdan S., Saturday, 19 March 2011 02:34 (thirteen years ago) link

also yela's voice sounds weird on that song in a cool way

J0rdan S., Saturday, 19 March 2011 02:37 (thirteen years ago) link

haha it genuinely didn't occur to me that it could be deej, thought all that retiring display name business was nonsense

i'm not gonna tell you not to listen to the Barker lp because hey Blink 182 stans unite but it gets pretty smh (and Dro isn't on it)

some dude, Saturday, 19 March 2011 02:39 (thirteen years ago) link

good lookin out

J0rdan S., Saturday, 19 March 2011 02:41 (thirteen years ago) link

the production on this soulja boy tape is great all around

J0rdan S., Saturday, 19 March 2011 02:54 (thirteen years ago) link

how are the vocals though, is he still groaning arrhythmically or was that just a very long phase?

some dude, Saturday, 19 March 2011 02:57 (thirteen years ago) link

were there 2 or 3 jams on the travis barker ... i checked some stuff @ digital dripped and some seemed potentially interesting altho i didnt come back to them

D-40, Saturday, 19 March 2011 02:58 (thirteen years ago) link

vocals on the two soulja boy tracks ive heard were all over the place & weird like hes trying too hard to sound affectd or something

D-40, Saturday, 19 March 2011 03:00 (thirteen years ago) link

also yes he's named "Yung Chris"

J0rdan S., Saturday, 19 March 2011 06:59 (thirteen years ago) link

latest soulja boy mixtape is so so. I prefer the low key productions a la pretty boy swag, drums and bass (1UP, The First, Stacks on Deck), I'm thinking the whole time why he doesn't come with a tape in that vein.
