Community, the tv show

For some reason, I love Oliver on Community, hate him on everything else. Ditto Chevy Chase.

I love Oliver on The Daily Show, less so on Community, and don't really think much of his stand up.

i like oliver. is it a british thing to hate on him?

i dunno, i just think he's really unfunny. anecdote about him: some acquiantance of mine saw him do stand-up, in brighton iirc, when he was a total unkown. he bombed and was getting wildly heckled, he started ranting, and not like righteous, witty vituperation, just straight saying, "shut up, you're just too stupid to understand my material". couple of months later he's on american tv. go figure.

in community i think the writing is pretty weak for him, lots of "in britain we call it a [comedy name for a commonplace thing]" or whatever. like, lol, the wacky brit prof.

omg best news everrrr, i was legit feeling sorrowful at the prospect of this show getting canceled.

The radio show he did with Andy Zalzman, "The Department" was hilarious and his daily show writers would do well to listen to it, much better than his Daily Show stuff.

He and Andy still do a weekly podcast, "The Bugle."

I didn't see the whole thing because my DVR cut it off. Thought the joke was that Pearce was using a calculator when everyone else was texting or something. What devices were everyone using?

yeah you're right, i re-watched the end. jeff = texting on phone, annie = laptop, shirley = phone texting, pierce = old adding machine, troy droid 2 looking thing, abed = ipad 2 it looked like, britta = txting on phone

I liked the saw jokes, but thought Chang was getting a little too cartoony for even that character.

YES. I absolutely agree.

I dunno, if they're even going to keep Chang in the show, it seems unlikely at this point to ever bring him back down to the "normal" level of the main characters ever again (like say the episode with his ex-wife from last year), so I guess that's why they just keep ramping him up

His best moment this season has gotta be that one at the end of the drug play episode after Shirley forgives him, and he just says "I'll tell Chang when I see him!" with the most stone cold serial killer vibe

"...I haven't Chang-ed that many women."

Not the greatest episode, but I'm such a stan for this show now I get untold amounts of joy from things like Troy's "what was that?" after Britta's Genie in a Bottle thing.

It was okay, but even the most half-cooked Troy & Abed in the Morning joke would've been better.

Pierce made it worth it for me

The funniest part about Britta's 'Genie in a Bottle' thing was Britta's 'Genie in a Bottle' thing. It basically set up me laughing at everything Britta said or did for the rest of the episode.

I bet Annie's Boobs is running around in the background or something...that, or it's a setup for a future joke.

I totally think that's possible and would be awesome, but I also think there's the distinct possibility that sometimes comedy writers write a lazy "observational humor in our wacky future times" joke.

I saw it as sort of a 'what would each character's style of handheld device be?' conversation between writers, maybe it wasn't supposed to be funny. I was definitely thinking idgi afterward though.

i think it was supposed to be "this is what real ppl do when they get together in groups, ignore each other in favor of technology." which is true, but not exactly lols-a-minute.
