six years pass...

Then there's this story...

The brother of Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan has been charged with assaulting their 70-year-old father, who was found dead over the weekend in the family's Stoneham home.

Police are looking into the sudden death that occurred early Sunday morning. Daniel Kerrigan, 70, was found dead inside his home. Mark Kerrigan, the victim's 45-year-old son, faces arraignment today on a charge of assault and battery on a person over 60 that resulted in injuries.

Emergency crews were sent to 7 Cedar Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after getting reports of an unresponsive male. Daniel Kerrigan was then taken to Winchester Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Stoneham Police Chief Richard Bongiorno told FOX25’s Keba Arnold that Mark Kerrigan was arrested early Sunday morning, taken to the hospital and then to the police department. He was booked by 4 p.m.

Police say Mark Kerrigan and his father had an argument late Saturday night. Mark Kerrigan wanted to use the kitchen phone his dad said no. Police say Mark Kerrigan was drunk and got into an argument with his father and there was a shoving match.

According to police, Mark Kerrigan grabbed his father by the neck and Daniel Kerrgian fell to the ground. 911 was called and when EMTs arrived, Daniel Kerrigan was not breathing, but had a faint pulse. Daniel Kerrigan later died at the hospital.

Police said it took four cops to remove Mark Kerrigan from the house. The police report said Mark Kerrigan was found in the basement of the Stoneham home and was "belligerent and combative" when questioned. Officers used pepper spray to subdue him and eventually arrested him. The report says Mark Kerrigan told officers he struggled with his father and put his hands around his neck after the elder Kerrigan wouldn't let him use the phone.

No family members were in court Monday for Mark Kerrigan’s arraignment. Kerrigan pleaded not guilty to assaulting his father, breaking down in tears as his attorney spoke. He was ordered held on $10,000 cash bail.

Mark Kerrigan has been to prison before and has said he spent four years in jail because a cop lied. He made the comment as he was being carried out of the courtroom.

Mark Kerrigan had been staying at the 7 Cedar Ave home. It’s unclear if he has another address or whether he has a job.

The district attorney’s office will determine if more charges will be filed.

Brenda Kerrigan told the Boston Herald that her husband died of a heart attack and there was nothing suspicious about the death.

Funeral services for Daniel Kerrigan are scheduled for Thursday.

I will happily consider anything that doesn't involve rooting around in Tonya Harding.

Thought the film was passable--a good 20 seconds of the only Violent Femmes song I can tolerate, a pretty good performance by whoever plays Gillooly (when older, recounting what happened, he looks like Chuck Eddy), and the first triple axel was kind of exciting. It's not great camp, and it's not especially insightful about whatever all of that might have meant. (There's a lingering shot of a Reagan poster at one point, practically begging you to make a connection--weird, because Harding is anchored to the Clinton moment, chronologically and every which way.) Allison Janney's acclaimed performance seemed very obvious.

It's not great camp

i was wondering, cos it seems like it would be heavy on the 90's kitsch. a friend and i watched her dancing to Jurassic Park theme recently and it was amazing and beautiful and silly all at once. it was like pure camp. it was lovely. do they show this in the film?

“Tonya Harding” is the title of a new and quite lovely Sufjan Stevens song (“This world is a bitch, girl,” it goes. “Don’t end up in a ditch, girl.”

a quite lovely song that casually blames her for "cheating" and calls her "Just some Portland white trash"

reading this i def feel for her getting exploited by everyone even Obama

If you shut it off you probably missed the to-camera “YOU PEOPLE are the real abusers” which, I had to admire the brass balls - this movie is gonna tell me off for attempting to enjoy its story? This movie?! Like maybe if you weren’t constantly pitching at the level of “haha the fat guy is always eating, classic fat guy”

I thought the skating scenes and robbie’s performance were genuinely awesome tho

story would have been better served by a documentary but I hope TH made some scratch from it. She def earned my sympathies despite the clobbering style of the movie.

Planewatched this and yeah it's patchy...but the archive footage at the very end of actual-Tonya landing the triple axel was thrilling and emotional and the whole movie kind of justified itself as a build-up to that. What was even the point of the journalist character?
