Delhi, then - I found this picture which seems to have much of the same generic stuff in it

I've almost convinced myself it's the same street from a slightly different angle

The guesses for delhi were interesting and show how definitive its islamic character is, to ILX anyway.

ogmor, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 16:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, definitely a Mughal influence (it was their capital) that I assumed was more Turkic but the influence of the Persians on all the Turkic ppl is pretty marked.

ENBB, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 16:46 (thirteen years ago) link

There has been much controversey about whether the Russian league should be split into two leagues, East region and Western region, however this is yet to happen. Igor Akinfeev, the CSKA Moscow goalkeeper, said that "they [FC Luch-Energiya Vladivostok] should play in the Japanese League", after his team lost 4-0 after a seven hour flight.[1]

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:03 (thirteen years ago) link

this is a good one

can u get a higher res pic or something

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Hmm, tropical climate, early 80s articulated buses, left-hand drivers, no bicycle/moped traffic, European influence, but those griffons and the southeast Asian detailing on the roofline are throwing me off. Manila?

light...sweet...crude (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Not Manila - can't improve the resolution but could offer a second photo with people in it on request. But be warned it looks like a totally different city.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:16 (thirteen years ago) link

the time is ~8pm yet it's light, subtropical at most imo

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:17 (thirteen years ago) link

How can you tell its PM?

light...sweet...crude (Sanpaku), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:18 (thirteen years ago) link

cuz it's too light to be 8am at this sort of the latitude, unless it has some strange time correction

The Geirogeirgegege (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Yep, that Vladivostok pic is already in this thread, I think I named every industrial town in Russia and surrounding areas before someone beat me to it.

That huge Santa in Ismael's one is freaking me out because I didn't even notice it until I zoomed in to try to read what it said on the end of the building.

ailsa, Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:21 (thirteen years ago) link

second photo svp

left-hand drivers

griffons and the southeast Asian detailing

I might be wrong but I think these are all assumptions. The drivers may be on a one way; we have no proof that the person in the car is driving. The details on the front of the building aren't necessarily Asian at all, either. Speaking of assumptions, has anybody else assumed that this is a Victorian era train station? If it's 8PM and sunny still, I assume it's summertime unless that means it's the southern hemisphere, which might explain the Santa.

The left side of the street looks pre-war and the right looks post war.

And then there's the flags (U.S., something with a St. George's cross, and is that a Brazilian flag?).

But the people are too pale in the second photo. Lima, Peru?
