feeling these two tracks a lot

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8s7R3p-dIc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WVl98bAKPU

also the g-side album is a bit slept on - rev/rennavate and i talked about it on twitter a bit last night. think we all think the production >>>> the rapping, but the production is pretty special (the strings on "came up") and i love the overall cohesive feel of it.

also, the young dro mixtape is predictably great - this is prob my favourite track on it. HOES IN A SUMMERHOUSE IN BEIJING

lex pretend, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 08:12 (thirteen years ago) link

I don't think the G-Side album is slept on, it just got its love from the indier sections of the internet. I don't really like it, drums don't hit hard enough or something. Funny that they flipped a Beach House sample before The Weeknd tho.

can I just say the credit "Pitbull Featuring Ne-Yo, AfroJack & Nayer" (whoever the hell Nayer is) is hilarious. song sux tho.

banjee trillness (The Reverend), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 17:45 (thirteen years ago) link

i heard that on the radio the other day and was kinda surprised how much i liked it, considering how far both Pitbull and Ne-Yo have both fallen off

some dude, Tuesday, 19 April 2011 17:46 (thirteen years ago) link

ha, I meant that to be on rolling pop, but I guess it works on this thread too

anyone dl the new prodigy mixtape from complex? all produced by sid roams, kinda curious

the zing cheese incident (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 19 April 2011 19:11 (thirteen years ago) link

I've only heard 'Strong' from the Prodigy mixtape which apparently isn't produced by sid roams, anyway, i think whoever produced it messed up the nina simone sample - between the verses it sounds slightly awkward to me - they make a slight cut and it doesn't flow right to my ears. I'm probably just being picky fuck it.

i love that they're still releasing jams off this nht boyz record even though it's from last year, shit is still one of the most underrated records from '10 i think. its way fun, lots of dimension, playful old school vibe w/out sounding 'retro'

Brotha Lynch Hung "Coathanga Strangla" about as good as Dinner and a Movie. sonically similar but the production's even darker if ya can believe that.

this is one of my fav trax from it

^^^lol there were ads for that at my bus stop. guest list is crazy

I'm digging Return to 4eva, especially the back half, but Pfork review was right that a lot of his rapping is pretty pedestrian.

also: lol at Kurt Cobain line, and it seems like half the songs contain specific references to Goodie Mob, Outkast, or UGK

excited about that brotha lynch hung

i was telling j0rdan (i think?) that i suspect berner has some rich uncle, how tf is a regional rap dude like berner who looks like a high school stoner affording wiz khalifa guest spots??

'yoko' is dope tho

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:23 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah why would wiz khalifa align himself with a regional rapper who looks like a high school stoner

some dude, Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:24 (thirteen years ago) link

also, could have been recorded before wiz really became mainstream-famous

haha. tbf usually he aligns himself with dudes he actually went to high school with

i mean, who the fuck is berner?? he dropped two albums with jacka. he has to have deep pockets

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:38 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe he's just tight w/ the jacka* and those albums did well enough to fund his other projects?

*btw is deej the only person in the world who only ever calls the jacka just "jacka"

some dude, Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:39 (thirteen years ago) link

its such a weird pairing is all

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:42 (thirteen years ago) link

i mean, hes not a great rapper, although occasionally he writes some bars that are pretty solid. but his flow is goofy

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:43 (thirteen years ago) link

dudes like Lee Majors & Laroo had careers prior to working w/ jack, iirc. and its not like berner was in mob figaz. idk i just get a diplomat's son vibe from dude (maybe this is racist)

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Disney should reboot alladin for generation y and have the alladin grow up to be berner

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:50 (thirteen years ago) link

If you add 'the' to some of those other dude's names they kinda sound like superhero sidekicks -- the berner! the husalah! the jacka!

J0rdan S., Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:52 (thirteen years ago) link

it did surprise me the first time i saw stuff about the jacka outside ilm and was like "wait his name has a the?"

some dude, Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:54 (thirteen years ago) link

in songs other artists call him 'jack' 'the jack' 'the jack artist' 'jacka' 'the jacka' etc etc etc

are you a fan of recording artist snoop doggy dogg

geeks, dweebs, nerds & lames (D-40), Thursday, 21 April 2011 16:58 (thirteen years ago) link

but i mean 90% of the time including your earliest posts about him there's no "the"

some dude, Thursday, 21 April 2011 17:02 (thirteen years ago) link

also everybody knows who snoop is
