ailsa, I saw you today. in glasgow central. you were five yards away, I should have shouted. I apologise for not shouting.

hi!

cozen (Cozen), Sunday, 10 April 2005 20:39 (nineteen years ago) link

I was in Glasgow Central lots. First time, I was in a hurry, second time I was just ambling and trying to blend in with Hearts fans since I'd just got off a train with about a thousand of them, third time I was a bit tipsy. I didn't see you anyway.

jed, i believe ally's band is playing on friday. also, there's an optimo-related fundraiser for sudan relief efforts at the brunswick hotel.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:23 (nineteen years ago) link

What time are you on at on Friday, oh Dotty one? I have to go out for a work-colleague-type meal at best restaurant in Paisley (yes, I know, but it is really nice, notwithstanding the lack of competition) straight after work, but can be in Glasgow later. But will I get there in time?

I am so out of touch with popular culture, Franz Ferdinand are the only people I have heard of on stirmonster's list. Oh, and Club 69, but only because their flyers are on the counter of the place I buy my lunch. (OK, maybe I am aware of their existence on more levels than that).

I think I may have encountered Samba YaBamba at some point also, but alcohol was probably involved so I've forgotten again. Nice name, though.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:31 (nineteen years ago) link

I am so out of touch with popular culture

join the club! supposedly they're all glaswegnas but i've hardly heard of any of them either. perhaps i should get out more?

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:39 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, I missed Bloc Party. I've heard of them too. They aren't Glaswegian though.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:42 (nineteen years ago) link

thanks, for the offer, scotstvo, but the problem must have been solved, I imagine and hope.

I'm going to be in glasgow, tomorrow, for the afternoon, and I will be back for good, for better or worse, from friday.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:45 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't know when we are on. It opens at 8. Maybe 9 or 10, I suppose. Mr Twitch's things always scare me a little, but I'm sure it will be fun.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:03 (nineteen years ago) link

I will be in glasgow, from thursday.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:08 (nineteen years ago) link

Mr Twitch's things always scare me a little

ha ha! how so?

i wonder how long this thread takes to load on dal up?

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:16 (nineteen years ago) link

on the internet in india, you mean?

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:17 (nineteen years ago) link

*groan*

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:18 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, I should be finished pigging out on our company expense account by then. Cozen, I shall rectify our near miss at Central by saying hi to you, if I see you.

(xpost - or maybe not, if you are going to make puns like that)

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:20 (nineteen years ago) link

that should of course have read 'dial up' and above should have read 'glaswegians'.

my poor wee computer's keyboard is dying.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:29 (nineteen years ago) link

thanks for the tip jed! i should have sussed that years ago.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 11 April 2005 18:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Mr Twitch's things always scare me because they are established as very cool and are full of very cool people and I am not very cool. But I have learned to not be scared of lots of other things, over the years, so it's OK. I have also learned that not being cool is not necessarily a barrier.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:40 (nineteen years ago) link

ally cool

RJG (RJG), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Richie Rich.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:59 (nineteen years ago) link

you're trying to refute my claim by making a completely outrageous counter-claim?

RJG (RJG), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:02 (nineteen years ago) link

being cool is the pits, don't be cool, be interesting!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:08 (nineteen years ago) link

or if you can't be interesting just be nice!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:08 (nineteen years ago) link

and if you can't be either just be quiet and mysterious.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:09 (nineteen years ago) link

people trying to be cool or thinking they are cool has always bewildered me as it just seems such a waste of energy. perhaps i'm subconciously jealous as i'm a blundering uncool bufoon. i sometimes think you are either born cool or uncool and in general the 'cool' gene is pretty scarce in scotland. this might be a good thing.

another thing that bewilders me is when people go to a club / bar etc. because they think it is the 'cool' place to go. what an odd reason to base your night out choice on.

jed is pretty cool though and manages to carry it off quite pleasantly.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:26 (nineteen years ago) link

and also unable to spell buffoon. good spelling skllz r cool.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:29 (nineteen years ago) link

aw man... :)

jed_ (jed), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:40 (nineteen years ago) link

coolness can stop you from doing all the things in life you'd like to.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:07 (nineteen years ago) link

I think I may have encountered Samba YaBamba at some point

They played a pre-match thing at Celtic Park, shortly after we signed Rafael Scheidt. You may have erased this period from your memory.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Most people seem to have encountered Samba Ya Bamba at some point. I saw them at an International Refugee Week party, or maybe it was One World Week. I think G4vin Dunb4r may hate them more than any band on the face of the earth.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:17 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah they totally do my tits in as well.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:23 (nineteen years ago) link

the name doesn't inspire confidence.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:25 (nineteen years ago) link

There is quite a lot of pressure I think in the Spanish department to like Sambayabamba. All the social events seem to revolve around them, somehow, and all the staff and the students go on about how amazing they are. I have managed to avoid them so far.

Cathy (Cathy), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 14:55 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, thanks Gerry, I think that was where I saw them, and why I have chosen to forget them. They were probably also involved in my one and only excursion into Glasgow at Hogmanay, but the sheer volume of alcohol that was needed to get me into Glasgow City Council's idea of organised fun would mean I wouldn't remember that either.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:30 (nineteen years ago) link

the only time I ever went to the hive I encountered sambayabamya.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:37 (nineteen years ago) link

As if going to The Dive wasn't bad enough in itself...(although I can't remember hearing Sambayabamba, I'm taking it as read that they are rubbish)

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Who the fuck are Sambayabamba?

I looked in my wallet today and saw that I had a ticket for ESG, which I'd forgotten about. So that's good! (possibly).

I think I base my uncoolness on not having any idea what 'micro-house' means. Dastoor knows. He's coming over in a sec. I will try to steal his cool.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:22 (nineteen years ago) link

sambayabamya.
