Wolf and Lamb

I know there's some talk of Night Plane over on the techno/house thread but it's definitely worth mentioning him as one to watch. "Str8 2 Ur Heart" is noir-Balearic excellence and his Soundcloud has a lot of promising stuff on it.

The Nightplane track on the Social Experiment mix ("Parallel Lines") sounds awesome in that context. As does Benoit & Sergio's "Principles".

glad to see more love for the dj kicks, the press reaction seems like it was generally positive but i definitely was expecting more of a reaction from the indie world a la nicolas jaar or james blake. which is a bummer because it is so much better than either of those records

srsly tho, I know the Ilx doesnt dig self-promotional and kinda off topic posts, but some of you W+L/SC DJ Kicks fans should be into this mix I made and I'd appreciate any listens/feedback/love/hate to get me closer to trumping the chump that somehow has gained 2000+ plays for a (imho) pedestrian mix. only just got this (the mixed version i mean) and its really great, definitely seems like i prefer soul clap to wolf + lamb

If you've ever wanted to hear Mel Blatt from All Saints sing "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" over a smooth piano-house track with percussion not disimilar to Salt-N-Pepa's "Push It", then the Soul Clap album is for you.

she's on another track too that i like better. the press release about how they met is kind of hilarious. i was mostly disappointed by the album though, kind of dry, punctuated by unfortunate wackiness

i have to hear this, i really like the idea of soul clap making a divisive pop opus

you mean the w+l dj kicks? i haven't listened to that since this time last year and it didn't leave a huge impression on me

i guess i'd argue that this thing is pretty 'pop' tbf, but it fails regardless. its problem has more to do with pretending like it has this uber-funky weirdness vibe going on, but not being even close to weird enough in actuality to pull it off. if you're going to have crazy spoken word intros that evoke dudes like andre 3000 or prince or george clinton or w/e they shouldn't be forced. and they shouldn't be this boring. i mean, lines like "a circumcised man gains powers of our universe, shaping him into a being of interplanetary dopeness" do not sell themselves

lex was right when he said this album was 'dry', p much the opposite of funk. i thought that the dj kicks thing actually achieved a nice balance of smoothness and weird-ass funkiness but this album is just blah

can't tell if i like this or hate it. fucking despise that "get low (incoming bitch)" track though, jesus. sounds like if limp bizkit made house music, not least with them roaring over the mic in any previous set i've heard it in.

some good stuff on here, though it's way closer to jazzy jeff's mixes than any of their previous stuff.

This Soul Clap album isn't exactly unpleasant but kinda dull at the same time? Like it simultaneously feels halfhearted and like it's trying way too hard.
