"I guess I'll see you in hell then!"

Nhex, Saturday, 14 May 2011 02:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Saw Kevin Corrigan, Alison Brie and Joel McHale having dinner at Momofuku Ssam Bar last night, before they all hit the Donald Glover show (wife also reckons the posse's in town for the NBC upfronts). Had to scooch around McHale in the aisle at one point and I think he might be taller than me (6'3to4") in his cowboy boots.

Finally watched this. Great stuff. "First of all, pop POP"

Love this show, and I've finally caught up with ILX and don't have to keep avoiding the thread. Loved the ice-cream dude turning out to be the City college dean, we need more of him.

I much preferred the embarassing trying-too-hard Pierce from S1 to the evil cave troll of the second season so I'm glad they redeemed the character at the end. Final episode needed more Chang though.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 May 2011 11:26 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i rewatched season 1 recently and Pierce has SO many hilarious lines, i hope they can get him back on track now

His exit seemed pretty final though...

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Monday, 16 May 2011 13:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Did we know before that he'd been in Community college for 14 years? Poor dude.

Caught on late - only noticed the "Black Rider's*" 'sonofabitch!' in my second viewing.

*You know he's not riding anything, right..?

?? He specifically said he was going to be on the show next year, but not in the study group in thr first episode

I haven't seen it a second time yet, but I'll be looking for that. It just occurred to me that Michael Emerson would make a pretty great professor of something on this show.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 May 2011 13:53 (thirteen years ago) link

oh god. yes. now I want systematic Lost-actor appearances in every episode.

Oh. Fair enough. I never read anything about it.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Monday, 16 May 2011 14:01 (thirteen years ago) link

no, I mean in the scene itself

"I like to wear tops that show my cleavage and show off my ladies," (sic), Monday, 16 May 2011 14:20 (thirteen years ago) link

He said I'm not going to be in the study group in the first episode?
Seriously though I thought he just said he was done with it.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Figured he was implying his character was still attending the school, but it was unclear to me if they'd ever interact with him again based on the conclusiveness and drama in that last scene.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:03 (thirteen years ago) link

it's not like you never see Greendale students who aren't in the study group on the show

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:05 (thirteen years ago) link

i mean he could become Leonard-with-more-screentime for a few episodes or something

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:06 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm just saying based on the tone of that whole scene it didn't seem like he has ever coming back, but yes the fact that he said he'd still be attending the school rather than saying he was done with everything hints at them winning him back somehow.

Or at least continuing the show in general.

Wacky Way Lounge (Evan), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:17 (thirteen years ago) link

They won't be able to cope without Pierce in the group, they'll descend into even worse infighting than usual.

Matt DC, Monday, 16 May 2011 15:21 (thirteen years ago) link

I much preferred the embarassing trying-too-hard Pierce from S1 to the evil cave troll of the second season

This and the new version of Chang are s2's only weaknesses imo.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:52 (thirteen years ago) link

all the blog thinkpieces about how one or both of them is ruining the show or whatever are pretty ridic though

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 15:54 (thirteen years ago) link

If this show is going to for seven years, it's going to need to somehow roll out the red carpet for my mom in the third season, without alienating the fans that we have who love nothing more than the unpredictable nature of the show, people I'm compulsively unable to betray because I'm one of them.

I haven't read any blog thinkpieces about this show. Like I said, I think s2 could be my favourite season of any TV show I've seen. I just think those two characters have grown weaker this season.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Monday, 16 May 2011 17:54 (thirteen years ago) link

I seem to be in the minority for thinking S2 Abed is the problem.

Simon H. Shit (Simon H.), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:04 (thirteen years ago) link

probably, yeah! Abed's been killing it.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:40 (thirteen years ago) link

the idea of the Abed character frequently seems like it should be so lame and meta and tryhard but the actual execution of the writing and how Pudi's played it has so often been just amazing

suggest ban the subbest man (some dude), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:43 (thirteen years ago) link

nothing wrong with Pudi's performance at all, I just don't think it redeems the, as you say, lame meta-ness

Simon H. Shit (Simon H.), Monday, 16 May 2011 18:55 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm with some dude - it totally does! i mean that My Dinner With Andre episode basically redeemed him for the lifetime of the entire series

cool x 5

Nhex, Monday, 16 May 2011 21:46 (thirteen years ago) link

I even really like the idea of Abed's character, actually.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 01:19 (thirteen years ago) link

early in the show's run when Abed's whole participation in the show was just the occasional one liner addressed out beyond the 4th wall, i didn't care for him, but now he just kind of busts through the wall and sprints around the room in these increasingly entertaining ways.
