it was rad that they put the trapdoor on the floor instead of the wall

says a lot about how ott the whole episode was that nobody's even mentioned the full frontal wang yet

I don't know how I feel about the Door of the Moon or whatever it's called. I liked it being in the wall, more of a head-fuck when it turns out to be a door to no-where.

Ian, doesn't Renly look an amazing amount like Mike C@mpb3ll from the MNDC?

enjoyed Ned & Jaime swordfight, wish it had been a little longer

kinda bummed they took out the climb up to the Eyrie...I mean, pacing wise I understand, but it added to the weird flavor of that place

if they hew as closely to the books as they have so far, the season finale is going to own so hard

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Monday, 16 May 2011 23:37 (twelve years ago) link

and it will be all kinds of O_O

:D

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 May 2011 23:37 (twelve years ago) link

Definitely the best episode so far, quite possibly because it had the most added scenes. Felt a lot less stiff.

need more Arya

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 May 2011 23:47 (twelve years ago) link

She's probably had as much screen time as anyone!

Number None, Monday, 16 May 2011 23:54 (twelve years ago) link

i am greedy, she is my favorite :)

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 16 May 2011 23:56 (twelve years ago) link

i think part of the reason this ep worked so well was that it pretty much stuck to action in king's landing and the eyrie; brief visit to winterfell, no dothraki stuff, no wall stuff. not that i don't really like the stuff on the wall, but to keep shifting the scene does take some momentum out of each episode.

one dis leads to another (ian), Monday, 16 May 2011 23:56 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah i agree. It is a problem in a show with so many characters in disparate locations.

Number None, Monday, 16 May 2011 23:58 (twelve years ago) link

every time arya is on screen i think, as if for the first time, "wow, you are a terrible actress"

It's interesting that you say that and this is followed up by Treme. Just thinking about how Simon has to force himself to write really tight "anecdote" scenes to pack in all the people and situations he wants to do; Thrones, being all notional period stuff and supposedly needing that much more exposition, has to abbreviate a lot and yet still ends up spending probably far too much time in each set

aww that's years away. guess i'll have to read the books.

Gukbe, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 14:27 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i had to put the book down. i am "processing it."

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Tuesday, 17 May 2011 14:28 (twelve years ago) link

i guess i'm on board with this now, to the point where i just frustrate my way through the series-prolonging bits of useless exposition by looking forward to the next cool bit of business with tyrion or arya or w/e. that stephen king-style soap opera plotting, where you get a bunch of disparate threads going, and don't really have to advance any of them much, cuz suspense takes over whenever you're away from the most appealing characters. hope this continues long enough to see the current cast and plot threads completely upended.

The prospect of watching the crazy shit happen on the TV show after having read it alraedy and BEING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SERIES AS IT IS...it's like I'm hanging on two cliffs at once, and frankly it's exhausting.

1/4 of the way through the fourth book and i am beginning to see why ppl are so frustrated with martin. the iron islands?? who gives a shit about this??? are the dornishmen italian or like turkish or what?? how are they even on the same continent???????

also he loves courtly intrigue but he doesnt really seem to care about actual politics? there are at least 3 major institutions (the citadel, the septons, and the nights watch) in the 7 kingdoms that would irl be big non-aristocratic power bases but instead they are totally apolitical??? chyeah right

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link

still this guy can plot an epic fantasy like a m-f'er

ban drake (the rapper) (max), Wednesday, 18 May 2011 21:19 (twelve years ago) link

at this pace he should be done in 10 years, right? its like 5 years between each book?
