Did Gaga don some weird pregnant suit? And then at the end, were they trying to make it look like they were pulling something out of her vag?
Found it all a little confusing. Love the Barry Gibb talk show.

JT & Gaga could totally slot into regular cast

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

Weird pregnant suit: check
Giving birth to glitter goop: check

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

She did don a weird pregnant suit, and then they put her in stirrups, but then they completely punted on having her give birth despite a conveniently-placed pull tab on the front of her outfit. I felt robbed.

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:00 (twelve years ago) link

oh wait was she supposed to be birthing GLITTER

what am I saying, of course she was

lol forever

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:01 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, I was really expecting them to pull that ring on the front of belly.
I also felt a little robbed.

Trip Maker, Monday, 23 May 2011 21:14 (twelve years ago) link

I was convinced there was a puppy in there

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:15 (twelve years ago) link

Thought this would've been a decent midseason episode; as the season finale, it felt a little short on fireworks.

jaymc, Monday, 23 May 2011 21:56 (twelve years ago) link

Would have been awesome had they pulled the tab and JT popped out.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 23 May 2011 22:01 (twelve years ago) link

If they'd have pulled the What Up With That? and the live-action Ambigously Gay Duo from last week's episode and slotted them in the best of this weekend's, you'd have had the perfect season finale.

Yeah, but then no one would've tuned in because last weeks was so bad.

nickn, Monday, 23 May 2011 22:21 (twelve years ago) link

True, but, y'know, sacrifice.

Bill Hader is the official "cast member who breaks" now, right? (I get why, esp. in the Stefon sketch, but still)

I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 22:27 (twelve years ago) link

For some reason it's funny when Hader does it but was always lazy when Fallon did it. (Hader obvs funnier, but still.)

Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 May 2011 22:33 (twelve years ago) link

God, remember the "Leathuhh" sketch w/ Fallon/Sanz? Did they ever NOT break? Like, even once?

I Like Fuck (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 23 May 2011 23:08 (twelve years ago) link

Watching the rerun; I had no idea Jessie J sang like that! Too bad her songs are horrible because wau

Tom Skerritt Mustache Ride (DJP), Sunday, 29 May 2011 04:55 (twelve years ago) link

You mean the second song, right? I was pretty impressed iirc

three weeks pass...

this was def my favorite sketch of the season http://www.hulu.com/watch/206141/saturday-night-live-worst-of-soul-train

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 00:40 (twelve years ago) link

yeah that was pretty great

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:24 (twelve years ago) link

what's the time frame on when cast changes happen? interested to see what happens this year, i feel like it was a really successful year for them in terms of buzz but i wouldn't be surprised to see sudeikis or wiig or even hader leave. also not sure the supporting cast was that strong this year but i think it's stupid when they dump ppl after a year

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:27 (twelve years ago) link

last couple seasons the big news about who's leaving/getting fired hasn't come out until late august/early september, seems like they wait til rehearsals are starting for the season premiere to finalize or announce those kinds of decisions.

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:36 (twelve years ago) link

i would be pretty bummed if sudeikis or hader or wiig left -- so sick of armisen but i guess they're going to keep his shitty obama on for at least 2 more seasons, and god willing hire a black man who can do a decent obama if the guy gets a 2nd term

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:38 (twelve years ago) link

fun fact: fred armisen is now the voice of speedy gonzalez. there really is no ethnicity that guy isn't that he won't play!

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:39 (twelve years ago) link

seems like armisen is on the darrell hammond track of hanging around for five years too long just so he can do two characters an episode

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:39 (twelve years ago) link

You've gotta admit, Armisen's David Patterson had layers. Layers like, "Did you know that blind people can't see?" and...yeah, that's pretty much it.

shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:41 (twelve years ago) link

i don't really think armisen is terrible as obama, i just think the writing for those sketches has been really poor

the same episode w/ the soul train sketch had a cold open w/ armisen as bloomberg addressing nyc after the epic snowstorms & it was really, really hilarious

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:41 (twelve years ago) link

lol tarfumes

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:43 (twelve years ago) link

his david patterson IS hilarious

i just don't think this writing staff has ever found a way to write funnily for obama -- sudeikis' biden has always been hilarious, but it's not even a 'good' impression really, he's just an easier person to write jokes about

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:43 (twelve years ago) link

no, he's totally a lame obama. like, if you watch will ferrell's early bush impressions from fall 2000, he didn't quite have it down yet and was just kind of riffing on a vague idea of the guy that got more focused later on -- armisen is still like that after playing obama for 4 years

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:45 (twelve years ago) link

there HAVE been funnily written obama sketches where the weaknesses of the impression aren't an issue -- particularly the 'obama plays it cool' sketch -- but mostly it's the acting even if political/current event cold openings have been otherwise weak in recent years too

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:47 (twelve years ago) link

He still plays it so straight, which draws attention to the fact that it's a bad impression. If he'd put a little character on the president, he could get away with being a white guy who simply ends his sentences on an accented syllable every time.

The sketch where he was chainsmoking on stage, saying "Instead of Obamacare, you all need to start calling it 'Guy-who-killed-Bin-Laden Care'..." was about the closest I've laughed at Armisen's Obama, but I still think The Rock owns the record for Best Impression of 44.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 20 June 2011 01:50 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i mean i wouldn't mind seeing some new blood there, but i think it's an overall problem xp

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:50 (twelve years ago) link

a year or two ago i was as adamant about a new update anchor as a new obama, but seth meyers has weirdly kind of grown on me i think?

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:54 (twelve years ago) link

he's a p consistent good-joke teller imo, saw some tina fey/fallon reruns and it could be kinda dire

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:55 (twelve years ago) link

plus he's a good foil for stefon

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:55 (twelve years ago) link

i think seth is great on update

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:56 (twelve years ago) link

yeah his interactions w/ update guests are great

I think the problem is that the Obama character, as Armisen plays him, is essentially a straight man -- making him the focus of the sketch fundamentally won't ever cut it. My favorite Obama sketches have been when Maya Rudolph comes back as Michelle.

shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:58 (twelve years ago) link

yeah -- or like nasim pedrad's chinese translater screaming "DOING SEX TO ME" was a good example of obama as straight man

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:01 (twelve years ago) link

so consensus has been reached that solo armisen obama = not funny, obama with silly shit around him (biden, chinese lady, the rock) = ok

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:03 (twelve years ago) link

not the whole truth but a facet of it, yeah

obama and stefon could maybe be a good comedy team

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:09 (twelve years ago) link

am i crazy for thinking that a stefon movie would be good

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 02:12 (twelve years ago) link

feel like the character is at a good point b/w being developed & underdeveloped that might lend itself well to being expanded into movie format

a hundred times more than the macgruber movie at least

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 02:13 (twelve years ago) link

DC's hottest new club is K Street's FNKK. It's got everything: Chandra Levy dancers, a dwarf dressed as a flat tax proposal, gary hart selling pubic wigs in the men's room...

xxp

feel like stefon bits have to be the most fun to write for

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:21 (twelve years ago) link

stefon works behind the desk in front of an audience doing that particular schtick over and over -- can't see it retaining that in any context

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:21 (twelve years ago) link

i didn't love the macgruber movie but there was a certain kind of sense about them totally bucking the sketch formula w/ that movie
