I don't remember that it was common knowledge at this time in the story that Littlefinger DID love Catelyn Stark! Iirc, you're kept in suspense for a while about whether he loved Catelyn or her sister, in their youths, and he claims at one point to have slept w both of them but you immediately disbelieve that of Catelyn so that just leaves Lysa...it's not early as clear as the show has made it.

Maybe there is some kind of nude quota imposed & they had to make up the quota in a hurry

thats actually not unlikely - hbo execs are known for strongly 'encouraging' this kind of content - i wouldnt have thought it necessary with this source material, but there you go

I think you're misremembering - we knew from the start that he dueled Brandon Stark for Catelyn's hand, a fight he had no way of winning... that seems to make it clear who he really loved.

Yeah i'm pretty sure Catelyn goes into it in some detail

Number None, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 19:04 (twelve years ago) link

Damn. One thing I'm realizing as I watch/re-read these is that elements that were suspenseful/mysterious stuck with me far more than straightfoward ones. My gut feeling about how long certain things were in flux or were "unknowns" is totally off.

anyone think episode 6 was by far the worst so far? there were so, so many moments where i sat there saying to myself, "this is what's gonna happen next" (for instance: an arrow's gonna go through that guy any minute"), and then exactly that would happen. extended even to dialogue.

[brit interloper content]: lol there's a guy called Jon Snow in this

The cast in this is great cos it provides the biggest game of "Wait, That's The Guy From" imaginable, like bearded Roger Allam and the handsome midget who dated Liz Lemon and the Arsenal fan with learning difficulties who gets killed halfway through Eastern Promises and Jerome fuckin Flynn

I like that since the first two minutes of the first episode, the only notable supernatural thing that's happened has been somebody picking up a hot egg without noticeable injury

Always raises a smirk. Next season they will hopefully introduce a powerful rival house lord named Huw Edwards.

Aw hell, my books came in today!

VagemiteBoi (Leee), Saturday, 4 June 2011 23:36 (twelve years ago) link

Looking at a map of Westeros in my book's frontispiece, I'm vastly amused that there's a castle named Riverrun. Is it past Eve and Adam's?

one of the lads in this was in hollyoaks i think...good career move for him.

my wife spent a good 5 minutes after the episode ranting along the theme of "why would you trust anyone who was in love with your wife? stupid ass"

shitty cliffhanger imo. rest of the episode was good tho.

the bravosi's fight was spot on; the show catches the tenor of the book v.well I think

ah cool okay, two more eps, i had it in my mind that it was 8 eps this season.

MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE LIVING HERE!! (Local Garda), Monday, 6 June 2011 17:41 (twelve years ago) link

having not read the book yet, this is the first episode where I felt like they were making huge plot jumps. where did these bravosi people come from? what was up with the guy losing his fingers and being cool with it? stuff felt super condensed.

when will they kill that breastfeeding brat?

akm, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:14 (twelve years ago) link

like the way rob is stepping up to the plate.

MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE LIVING HERE!! (Local Garda), Monday, 6 June 2011 18:24 (twelve years ago) link

i assumed the dude who lost his fingers is just supposed to be a bit of a lovable mental case. there's one in all these sort of shows/films. no doubt later on he'll behead someone and chuckle to himself. he's the gimli!

MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE LIVING HERE!! (Local Garda), Monday, 6 June 2011 18:24 (twelve years ago) link

really hope he survived.

Unless they're being deliberately contrary, in pretty much all TV/film ever, if you leave a fight behind before seeing if the good guy dies, it means they didn't.

Simon H. Shit (Simon H.), Monday, 6 June 2011 18:57 (twelve years ago) link

that's what i was figuring.

got electrolytes (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 6 June 2011 19:10 (twelve years ago) link

that was by far the best episode so far. they really put their foot on the gas.

Doctoral Who (Leee), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 03:49 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, another point where it seemed like things were overly condensed. i'm like, "little brother? what?"

akm, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 03:53 (twelve years ago) link

have they even referred to Rickon by name on the show yet? he had the camera pan on him for like a second in the first episode and this is the first time he's appeared since then. kind of a fumble on their part, even if he doesnt do anything

ciderpress, Tuesday, 7 June 2011 03:55 (twelve years ago) link

yeah, having read the books it's kind of easy to take this stuff for granted. Rickon has probably baen mentioned once or twice, maybe even shown in passing in the first episode, but that raise eyebrows for sure. The thing with Lord Umber losing his fingers and then laughing about it--he is kind of a blustery tuff guy, also drunk, but he does respect displays of power to some degree, and while the wolf attack may not have been that intentionally it has a similar effect. xp

one dis leads to another (ian), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 03:58 (twelve years ago) link

the finger thing is similarly glossed over in the book, but as much as anything its sort of supposed to show what northmen are like, i.e., hard as fucc

☂ (max), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 04:07 (twelve years ago) link

Bummed that Ser Barristan didnt strip all the way down to his long johns when they dismissed him
from the kings guard like in the book

Also no way is that Rickon. He looks as old as Brann!

Tyrion's merry men SO otm. Shagga is aces.

Otherwise like the way they are moving the story along. Exciiiiting!

Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 7 June 2011 04:50 (twelve years ago) link

i like any line in this show zinging theon (sigh) about being a prisoner.

anyone else (who hasn't read the books) think those hill vikings getting involved in the battle will be what sparks ned's crazy sister in law to get involved too, since she doesn't want them ending up armed by the lannisters?
