well it isn't ideal but I will use it. I have a 500gb library of music at home, and then I have like, 100gb of music on my laptop which I take to work every day. I'd love to clear out most of that on my laptop and just be able to grab what I want from my home library while I'm at work. so fine by me, if not perfect.

w/r/t 10.5 the app store requires snow leopard and lion will have a recovery partition apparently; i assume apple want you to buy 10.6 to get 10.7 :(

- ad-free browsing in ios safari
- free mobileme out of the box
- cloud sync from within apps (this should make my flashcard management 239847238947389749 times less painful)
- view and re-download apps you've purchased
- no need to use itunes ever again (for some people)
- cloud backup
- app state persistence across devices
- notifications that don't stop you halfway through doing something
- newsstand thingo
- some other thing i can't remember but it was cool
- CAMERA ACCESS FROM LOCK SCREEN
- using one of the volume buttons to take photos instead of that fucking awful and unacceptably fiddly on-screen button
- photo enhancements from within the std photos app
- automatic app updates every time you charge your phone (within wifi range)
- those incredibly awesome 4/5-finger swipe gestures in the ipad's dev mode will now be standard
- improvements to accessibility (people without impairments forget about this)
- the ipad has a split keyboard for thumb typing, i mean

Holy shit, automatic downloads are already live for iOS 4.

Settings -> Store -> the auto download options just appear

So is the list of purchased apps! My god it's all happening

oh and imessaging is awesome (free ios-to-ios texting that bypasses carriers completely)

oh and the ipod app appears to be called "music" now

A better way to do to-dos.
Next time you think to yourself, “Don’t forget to...,” just pull out your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and jot it down. The fact it backs up game date will this mean if I say, delete Infinity Blade and some other large Apps from my phone, when I redownload them from iCloud all my save data will download too?

sadly i have heard no mention of other location or time-based settings, i.e.

Set to Silent --> at midnight
Do offline download of Guardian app --> at 8am

or battery-saving measures, like

Set to airplane mode --> After failing to find signal for 5 minutes

stop hassling me --> every time you lose signal for 0.5 sec
stop dropping to 2100 mhz without my permission --> fucking ever

location based reminders sound a bit less useful than i thought, on the other hand:

jfalconer In theory, Reminders that trigger on location is one of the cool things in iOS5. But it's clunky -- addresses have to be in Contacts.

grr.. would be nice to just choose a spot on the map with my finger and say like "within .5 miles of"

I'm considering it. I'll have to see when it launches but its not big money so I probably will.

you can do some of this location based trigger stuff on your laptop already if you're a weenie like me, e.g. i have:

- screen locks when my phone is not in bluetooth range (i.e. i am away from desk)
- time machine target disk changes based on what disk is connected

I guess most of the stuff I use spotIfy for is stuff I also have in my collection back home and £25 a year is way better than £10 a month so yeah, I expect I'll switch.
