I lolled pretty hardcore when Tyrion got trampled by his own men

xxp: the kids on this show are uniformly amazing

low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:19 (twelve years ago) link

Nah i know it was done well but i do hope there's a bit more of an epic feel going forward

Number None, Monday, 13 June 2011 19:19 (twelve years ago) link

btw where's the thread where we can talk about the books? I'm on iPhone and can't search for it

George R. R. Martin

we could revive this

low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:22 (twelve years ago) link

Hopefully the money they save on Bean's salary can be spent on some BATTLES.

I keep imagining the score being replaced with Mirrored and Gloss Drop

the thought did occur to me

this is where we've been talking 'bout the books:

Anticipating A Feast For Crows by George R. R. Martin (Nov. 9)

Dug the scene between Catelyn and Robb about marrying one of Lord Frey's daughters. Possibly her most likeable moment - "One was..."

Hopefully the money they save on Bean's salary can be spent on some BATTLES. my only minor complaint about this episode.

iirc martin only really depicts two battles in the books

☂ (max), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:30 (twelve years ago) link

Doesn't Tyrion actually fight for a bit before getting knocked out in the book though? I'd just like it if the scope of these things was conveyed a little more. I understand that's difficult to do.

Number None, Monday, 13 June 2011 19:33 (twelve years ago) link

yeah tbf this is one of the battles that he DOES depict, i was just thinking that martin doesnt dwell overlong on big army battles. he likes fights though.

☂ (max), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:34 (twelve years ago) link

Having the POV character miss the battle was much cleverer storytelling than staging a cheapo battle would've been IMO.

If Arya and Tyrion aren't your favorite characters you're a horrible person.

Also Jon Snow.

I felt they could have shown some kind of skirmish in the woods before Jamie's capture. That seemed to be done a little abruptly.

Number None, Monday, 13 June 2011 19:50 (twelve years ago) link

Oh yeah, I didn't really get how that came to be.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:51 (twelve years ago) link

i was wondering that too. if the Lannisters thought they were going to battle why was Jamie milling about somewhere away from the thousands of soldiers etc?!

magic punani (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 13 June 2011 19:58 (twelve years ago) link

They were off to besiege Riverrun, Catelyn's dad's place

Number None, Monday, 13 June 2011 20:00 (twelve years ago) link

oh! i missed that somehow.

magic punani (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:01 (twelve years ago) link

I don't think it was very clearly explained.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:01 (twelve years ago) link

I can't even remember if it was explained tbh

Number None, Monday, 13 June 2011 20:02 (twelve years ago) link

May have been a throwaway line in the previous ep that that was what he was off to do.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:04 (twelve years ago) link

i think that's the case?

all the pretty HOOSes (gbx), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:04 (twelve years ago) link

all the pretty HOOSes (gbx), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:04 (twelve years ago) link

they talk about it the previous ep when tyrion brings bronn & co. to his dad

☂ (max), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:08 (twelve years ago) link

i was waiting for those two when they were chilling with the whore to start playing truth or dare.
that scene was pretty dull until they got to the story about Tyrion being married.

magic punani (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:11 (twelve years ago) link

explains alot.

magic punani (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:12 (twelve years ago) link

also man that executioner's sword was lol hueg

was supposed to be Stark's own sword, "Ice", which they just left out of the show for whatever reason.

low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Monday, 13 June 2011 20:30 (twelve years ago) link

They also left out one particular detail from Tyrion's story, but now I'm wondering if that was revealed at another point in the books.

man, spoilers for this seem impossible to avoid today. feel sorry for people who don't have HBO. :(

Feel really sorry for the Brits, whom I think are watching it right now (or just finished it). Twitter was especially bad.

i managed to avoid...clicked on this thread instinctively just before watching it then closed it down while looking away from the screen, close shave.

had a nagging suspicion ned hadnt been made to look anything but p lame and worthy for a long while, but still - whoa

r|t|c, Monday, 13 June 2011 21:52 (twelve years ago) link

altho plenty of shows have had a colourful cast revovling around a boring centre so maybe i'm just bullshitting

havent read the books but havent had any problems understanding what's going on until this episode when i couldnt remember who "stannis" was? am i being dumb?

r|t|c, Monday, 13 June 2011 21:55 (twelve years ago) link

(i don't wanna google him in case i get bookspoilered :/)

r|t|c, Monday, 13 June 2011 21:56 (twelve years ago) link

No, you aren't. Put it this way, each of the books ends with an appendix that lists all the major houses, characters, and relations. Its a lot to keep track of.

the fey bloggers are onto the zagat tweets (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 13 June 2011 21:56 (twelve years ago) link

i assume cersei's ruthlessness is about to be tested.

agree with whoever said joffrey is a little shit, obviously. hope he gets a chopping soon enough, the milky bar king.

when i hear "lannisters" i keep thinking it would be a good name for a family hotel in fyfe. also the theme music is really funny, it would be good to make up lyrics up for which included the words "game of thrones" repeatedly as the last three notes of the repeated motif.

sorry i have few serious points to make, the show is great.

x-post stannis has barely been in it, he is the mystery man. few weeks ago we all wondered who he was too. think if you search for stannis itt some kind foul has described the ex croatian midfield man

MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE LIVING HERE!! (Local Garda), Monday, 13 June 2011 21:58 (twelve years ago) link

some kind soul...not foul

MAYBE YOU SHOULDN'T BE LIVING HERE!! (Local Garda), Monday, 13 June 2011 21:59 (twelve years ago) link

Stannis is Robert Baratheon's brother; he's the middle sibling. Renly is the youngest brother, the dude who offered his swords to Ned to march on Cersei, then got the fuck out of Dodge when Ned turned him down; Renly is more charismatic and well-liked in the books so he thinks he should be king over his dour older brother Stannis. Ned thought that since all of Robert's supposed children were actually Jamie's, the line should pass to Stannis.

low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Monday, 13 June 2011 22:00 (twelve years ago) link

right and why's stannis so mysterious? does he just do his own thing like the crazy breastfeeding lady

dunno when i missed all this info, i'm usually ok with this stuff

r|t|c, Monday, 13 June 2011 22:04 (twelve years ago) link

actually since i mentioned stuff revolving around boring centres (ned) i must admit i did kinda feel a pang of worry that without his noble anchoring role this show would go a bit ott spartacus

i mean i do love spartacus but this isnt that

r|t|c, Monday, 13 June 2011 22:07 (twelve years ago) link

Basically Stannis is off running shit elsewhere in the kingdom.

low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Monday, 13 June 2011 22:08 (twelve years ago) link

stannis used to hang in kings landing always in a bad mood, but peaced out to his castle, which is on an island, when he realized that joffrey isnt roberts kid and hasnt been back or really talked to anyone. so everyone assumes that hes assembling some kind of army or whatever, but no one really knows.

☂ (max), Monday, 13 June 2011 22:26 (twelve years ago) link

that was all done pretty well i thought. series is ending strong. only most of a year to wait until the next one.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 14 June 2011 00:38 (twelve years ago) link

X post Just noticed that was already linked. Sorry.

\(^o\) (/o^)/ (ENBB), Tuesday, 14 June 2011 00:39 (twelve years ago) link

Stannis is this awesome cross between whiny crybaby and battlehardened soldier. The fact that he lives on an island seems to be convenient for both Stannis, who hates pretty much everyone in the world, and everyone in the world, who think Stannis is a dick.
