I thought the appeal of Curren$y was that he had loads of good lyrics/punchlines but his delivery is kind of dull and monotonous?

Heard 'swagger like us' off the new ti album last night, i thought it was shite, mainly, and bits of it were just strange. Jay-z kicking off his bit by telling us to buy rocawear jeans instead of skinny ones as you can fit more in the pockets... kanye (in full fucking aUTotUnE mode) going "Naaaaaaaaanaaaaaanaaaaaaooooo how it feel to wake up and be the shit and the urine"... wayne, also AUtoTuNEd up, not saying much at all... none of them were trying, basically. ti comes out much better, but then it's his album so i guess he made the effort.
I suppose just the names on the tracklist will get a few more copies of the album sold, but I hope this isn't meant to be the centrepiece of the record or anything...
― spaghetti, Sunday, 24 August 2008 04:46 (fifteen years ago) link
haha khaled only "dangerously close" to self parody? i think we've crossed that bridge a few miles back and god bless 'em
― M@tt He1ges0n, Sunday, 24 August 2008 14:21 (fifteen years ago) link
yeah T.I. really must've put that track together carefully, then made sure his verse was last & best. Kanye trying to bite Wayne's already-tired fecal matter punchlines now on this and the Khaled record is really one of the most pathetic, annoying things he's ever done.
― some dude, Sunday, 24 August 2008 16:39 (fifteen years ago) link
swagger like us is an amazing, historical let down
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 24 August 2008 18:43 (fifteen years ago) link
the sample is so annoying
is it really, though? there have been so many "omg Jay and Wayne/Kanye and Wayne/Jay and T.I.! oh, this is pretty boring" tracks in the past couple years that I had zero expectations for this. in fact "S.L.U." is probably better than most of those other collabs.
― some dude, Sunday, 24 August 2008 19:41 (fifteen years ago) link
slu is not better than
mr. carter the jay/tip song from t.i. vs t.i.p. any kanye produced joint from carter III or its leaks
it is better than hello brooklyn jockin jay-z

idk it just seems really hastily put together, obv someone made the beat w/ in the last few weeks and no one put any thought into their verses except maybe t.i.. i still think ye sounds pretty cool doing self-important autotune raps but he doesn't drop one hot punchline
id really like to know the thought process behind wayne deciding to use or not use autotune. like, why does he decide to use it here when it brings nothing to the table, but on the new brisco song he drops it and does a really good fast verse
