looks like they're gonna explore the whole 'parents' thing, though, which i don't even remember from the comics

My husband told me there was a story in the comics where the parents were actually spies who got killed, I hope they don't do that for the movie -- it would be so cheesy.

Was doing some idle checking around today and discovered apparently the murderer of his parents was...the Red Skull. Or one of them. Crossover!

An impossible dream i'm afraid

will probably see this at some point but seems ridiculously early for a reboot. not as quick as the Hulk reboot which was, what, two years after the first movie I guess. but still, wtf. they could have just continued the series on with a new actor if they wanted to and not started over

i mean it's not like we get 'the origin of james bond' every ten years when the lead actor changes.

The most recent Bond actor change *did* give us "the origin of James Bond" fwiw. Or at least showed him completing the kill that first earned him his double-0 designation.

I was about to say, and did so in a quick, no-more-than-needed fashion, credit to them.

i don't know anything about this, but i always thought the hulk reboot was because they wanted to tie it in a little more explicitly with the expanding marvel movie-verse.

Role model here when it comes to tentpole/franchise movie (as opposed to TV) backstories could almost be Sherlock Holmes from a couple of years ago. Fuck a backstory, Holmes and Watson are buds fighting crime, the end.

I hope Spider-Man follows in said fashion, if only to give a new couple of retirement age actors a chance at regular employment every decade or so.

Grant Morrison's All-Star Superman dispenses with his origin in one page, cos we all know it already. If they want to include an origin in these things just do it a short pre-credits sequence or whatever

There are scenes where Andrew Garfield's hair looks totally like something James Franco would rock.

It's called "Spidey-mask hair." or "web-head," if you're punny.

The second movie featured one of my favorite movie shortcut glosses, wherein Dr. Octopus essentially mail orders the components to build a nuclear fusion generator or whatever to be delivered to his secret warehouse in Brooklyn. I genuinely love how comic books never get into where these arch villains and heroes get the raw materials to build their bases, palaces, equipment, etc.

Batman: Logistics & Fulfillment a surprisingly low grosser at the box office.

But those who saw it loved it.

I've learned not to judge movies simply by their trailers, but everything I've seen from this reboot looks absolutely like style over substance (and, frankly, stupid).

It's going to make a ton of money regardless of what I think, but it does look rather heartless and slick. The whole idea of a reboot is so ridiculous when there really isn't much new being added to the story.

false binary, Raimi Spidey was pretty stylish. i don't even know what a "substantial" Spider-Man movie would look like but i'm pretty sure i don't wanna see it.

Any superhero film is going to be stylish, yes, but action clips from this new one closer resemble a video game than anything in a real world setting.

There was a humility/humanity about the first Raimi Spider-man film (and maybe the others) that doesn't appear present anywhere in this one.

I'm not as high on the Nolan Batman films as everyone else is. I thought Ledger's "Joker" was ALL-TIME as a complex villain, but the first film and everything else about the second film that wasn't Heath Ledger-related never pulled me in.
