And I just stopped it by posting! Gah...

Ha, my girlfriend teases me because I'm always humming the arpeggio aloud (the little grace-note bleep bloop at the end of the phrase sounds extremely ridiculous vocalized)...

LOVE "Snooze 4 Love." Started my last mix with the beatless version of it, actually, and it turns out to mix wonderfully well with Jay Shepheard's remix of "Sunday Smoking."

someone needs to do a five-hour edit of the beatless one.

nice mix, phil-- gr8 start to my morning :)

i guess i'm alone in not really getting this one. it does sound nice, though.

gr80 props for the forward planning involved in bringing blank CDs to a gig!

That portamento on the grace notes just totally puts me in my happy place. It's become one of those guaranteed "makes everything better" tracks.

It's a hell of a 2am London nightbus jam also

MPx4A, Sunday, 14 August 2011 12:47 (twelve years ago) link

is he gay? because i'm keen and up for it. i don't like snooze for love all that much though, it's just okay. i'm actually quite confused that anyone would like it so much to start a thread about it.

jed_, Friday, 26 August 2011 03:52 (twelve years ago) link

There s/b more threads like this, just about hot songs people are into. I feel like it used to happen more often, back in the old days, but now everything's relegated to artist-specific or rolling-genre threads.

Just saying, b/c I probably never would've heard this track otherwise.

jaymc, Friday, 26 August 2011 04:25 (twelve years ago) link

(Ha, I didn't even read jed's post right above mine.)

yeah i kinda agree cuz i like these threads, the reasoning (on my part) for not starting song=specific threads is partly a) fear of tumbleweeds, which has happened a couple of times, b) if i started a new thread for every hot song i was into i'd be starting, like, at least one a day

lex pretend, Friday, 26 August 2011 07:26 (twelve years ago) link

(i have a really bad sense of what songs are potential crossovers)

lex pretend, Friday, 26 August 2011 07:26 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah, rolling thread ghettoization typically leads to discussion stagnation, especially with dance music I find.

qpә (EDB), Friday, 26 August 2011 10:12 (twelve years ago) link

Rolling threads have their uses but I do like threads like this and the Disco En Paradiso one. Even if there's nothing to say about the track and it's just people enthusing.

You really notice the influence of rolling threads when you get to ILM End of Year lists and they're full of songs that different blocs have voted for and everyone else goes "what's that? It's great!"

Also I find dutifully clicking through endless Youtube clips on an ILM thread to be a really joyless way of listening to music, but that might just be me.

Matt DC, Friday, 26 August 2011 10:17 (twelve years ago) link

oh, same here - i usually try to find mp3s of the youtubes mentioned then listen to them at my own leisure

WUT WUT WUT WUT WUT

rude ragga beats from the F. U. Schnickens (sic), Friday, 26 August 2011 10:35 (twelve years ago) link

i totally assumed that would have 3 posts then die

conversely i thought ilm would go nuts for creep/romy xx, which pretty much DID get 3 posts then die

seriously, zero sense of what crossover appeal is

lex pretend, Friday, 26 August 2011 10:39 (twelve years ago) link

There's been quite a lot of love for the Creep/Romy song hasn't there? Or am I just confusing that with Ned and Dan being goths as usual.

Matt DC, Friday, 26 August 2011 10:42 (twelve years ago) link

it's worth rolling the dice sometimes, was my point

I dug creep/romy too btw but probably most of us who like it would have come across it eventually without that thread - the fact that the WUT WUT WUT thread probably introduced a huge majority of us to the song is what made it Tracks Poll Winner, I reckon.

also so many people would have clicked out of curiosity on a thread titled WUT WUT WUT WUT WUT, not even noticing what board it was on. whereas (feat romy from the xx) would have made heaps of ppl not bother clicking.

really???? oh god, i don't even have any sense of how to title a thread then. i only called the WUT thread that b/c i thought no one would click anyway, so what the hell. whereas i thought, in light of the huge xx love here, putting 'romy from the xx" in the title would pique people's curiosity.

lex pretend, Friday, 26 August 2011 10:53 (twelve years ago) link

well, people who think they don't like the xx, I mean. not people who WOULD be interested anyway.

it sets yourself up for a fall though if people don't think it's a masterpiece

all of this is why i don't start threads, anyway

Rolling masterpiece nomination thread plz, abuse of which gets folks locked in the stocks.

There s/b more threads like this, just about hot songs people are into. I feel like it used to happen more often, back in the old days, but now everything's relegated to artist-specific or rolling-genre threads.

As an old-timer who took a break from, like, '04 pretty much to a few months ago, it's interesting to read this. I like the rolling-genre threads in principle, but it feels as if they often get commandeered by a few folks that are far more knowledgeable about the genre than most others, and I think others get scared off a little from posting (at least, I know this has happened to me). The occasional "I'm really feeling this" thread feels much more inviting...

Also, I'm usually either reading ILM on my phone while I'm "on the road" or while I'm home working (in which case my stereo is on), and the constant stream of YouTubes on the rolling-genre threads is never really something I can make use of. (Ironic, I suppose, that I started this thread then with a YouTube.)

markers aurelius (The Reverend), Friday, 26 August 2011 19:10 (twelve years ago) link

Although it happens plenty, I wouldn't say ILM is my main avenue for discovering music, either. For me, it's always been about the discourse on here, the people and their thoughts and personalities. When those rolling-genre threads evolve into long strings of YouTubes with no commentary, that aspect of it is totally lost. I do understand why it happens; there's so much music coming at us from all corners at all times today, it's hard to really sit down and spend time even listening to--much less thinking about or discussing--any one thing, but I have to admit that I fear the FB-style "likes this"-ification of the discourse.

snooze button 4 love

Number None, Wednesday, 14 September 2011 20:25 (twelve years ago) link

you know, i had underrated this, but it's all about context: in the dixon live at robert johnson mix, which slowly builds up to this as the last track, it sounds like the best thing ever

geeta, Thursday, 15 September 2011 17:48 (twelve years ago) link

Dixon claims the last two tracks on his mix were a mistake and if he could do it over again, he wouldn't use Snooze 4 Love or the one that preceeds it. It does sound great as the closer of the mix though.
