Conan said "Dungen" like 50 times last night. They did "Panda" but they didn't quite get the sound right, imo.

SFA are only boring the first 5 times, then it clicks.

I didn't actually see them! They were at Intonation, but I think it was early in the day.

I've seen them on both of their recent US tours. Both shows were unique and entertaining.

I can't believe I missed them on Conan.

I have the Works album and like it fairly well, but I haven't really listened to it a lot.
I can really hear the jazz connection someone upthread made. It's more prononced on the earlier stuff.
Conan's shows are no longer replayed on cnbc the next day, are they?

for one wierd second, I thought the thread title read "Dungen - "De La Nugent"

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 20:34 (eighteen years ago) link

Dungen on Conan? Thank you, that I must see. What they might lack in sound live, compared to the album, they sure make up for with some great jamming.

And Ta Det Lugnt is of course amazing, but everyone knows that by now.

"De La Nugent"

I would LOVE for this to be the next De La Soul album title.

i loved "ta det lungt" when I first heard it but i'm not really bothered about this for some reason. I think once the initial awe of this band wears off there's not a lot to go back to :-(

listening to new one now. sounds like the last one so far. so, if you liked the last one... but nothing that sounds all that "new" or whatever. guitars still sound way cool.

Did they ever come up with at title?

darin (darin), Friday, 9 February 2007 20:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Hi.

You just downloaded Dungen - "Tio Bitar" from Kemado Records' download server. The download is completely unique and if found on peer-to-peer networks, can be traced back to you.

I am really looking forward to hearing this and am glad to hear it's not too much of a depature from the last one. I suppose it'll leak soon enough.

Jason Dent (jason dont), Saturday, 10 February 2007 02:22 (seventeen years ago) link

weird, another friend of mine who recently heard it said it was different, and possibly better, than the first one.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 10 February 2007 02:25 (seventeen years ago) link

it's got some good jammage and instrumental action, but the songwriting seems too samey to me. not that that's a bad thing. still sounds good. i don't know what i was expecting. i only listened once. i really really liked that last album though and this one just didn't hit me as hard.

I wanna hear more guitar solos. Are there more guitar solos?

strom (strom), Saturday, 10 February 2007 23:19 (seventeen years ago) link

five years pass...

So I've never heard this record. I suspect I should, right?

Yes. Although I think 4 is better.

used to love this, but i wonder if it's aged well?

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Thursday, 19 April 2012 12:30 (eleven years ago) link

The first two tracks sounded pretty fracking awesome in the car. The fact that it's such a specific retro (psyche) sound suggests it'll age well depending on your long-term tastes. Sounds a bit like Caribou's 4-piece live band sans synth, or Os Mutantes, or Nuggets.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 19 April 2012 12:33 (eleven years ago) link

There's no denying it's great (especially the first couple of songs yeah), but I don't know if I'd be able to enjoy it as much these days since there were a fair few other bands who came after and did a similar take on the sound which I think I overloaded on. Still, it's a very good album.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Thursday, 19 April 2012 12:36 (eleven years ago) link

Who else did similar stuff afterwards?

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 19 April 2012 12:42 (eleven years ago) link

Ach you know, the whole continuum from Ariel Pink through Tame Impala, freak-folk to chillwave. I realise it's pretty unfair to make these comparisons but when I heard Ta Det Lungt in 2004 it sounded so incredibly fresh and since then there's been a lot of stuff going along (fairly) similar aesthetic lines. But don't let me spoil it for such petty reasons. I'm gonna dig it out tonight I think.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Thursday, 19 April 2012 13:11 (eleven years ago) link

heard 2 minutes of Ariel Pink once and thought they were utter bilge.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Thursday, 19 April 2012 13:44 (eleven years ago) link

2 minutes isn't really much to go on now, is it? I really like Worn Copy (which I think I discovered roughly the same time as Ta Det Lungt), but a lot of people like the latest one Before Today.

Scary Move 4 (dog latin), Thursday, 19 April 2012 13:45 (eleven years ago) link

Tame Impala - Innerspeaker. Possibly better than Ta Det Lungt (less meandering, more focused). Both are great.

Du Är För Fin För Mig still = heroic. Basically a folk flute emo song that goes out in a blaze of glory with a pretend Hendrix solo.
