bloxorz roxorz! Something surprisingly counter-intuitive about it. (Or, I'm dense.)

desktop tower defense!

pj, Sunday, 30 September 2007 04:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Damn, I forgot all about Cave Story! I can really, really recommend that one. That one was obviously a labor of love for whoever developed it. It also has replay value because depending on the way you proceed, you can get different weapons and endings. A+ would play again etc.

Knytt Stories looks intriguing, I may check that out later today.

Knytt Stories looks intriguing, I may check that out later today.

It took forever and never seemed to go anywhere. I stopped playing.

kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 11:58 (sixteen years ago) link

The original Knytt is even more low-key than most of the Knytt Stories levels. I'd agree that they don't really 'go anywhere' -- the appeal is mostly in exploring the weird mysterious world and seeing the tiny little sprite animals hop around, which is compelling enough for me but I can see how it could seem boring.

I really like Peggle and I've considered thought about buying the full version, but I bet it isn't much better than the free one.

I played KongKongSEA for a long time. It is a jump racing game with attack items and tiles on the ground that give you boost and direction changes.

Question:

Is the music for this game the worst music of all time?

HINT: Wait until the programmer's 15 year old girlfriend starts singing before you make your final decision.

Z S, Friday, 2 November 2007 17:57 (sixteen years ago) link

The singing starts about 120 seconds in. Actually, to clarify, it's not the worst music ever, it's the worst Bjork imitation ever, and the worst lyrics ever.

EVER!

Z S, Friday, 2 November 2007 18:01 (sixteen years ago) link

It's a real rekkid, not the programmer's girlfriend.

one month passes...

I've been trying to download the free game Perfect Cherry Blossom, but everywhere I can find it, it's a .lzh file, which I can't get my computer to unzip correctly for some reason (maybe because it's an old file and the new versions of winzip and similiar programs don't recognize it correctly?). Anybody here know what I'm doing wrong and what I need to do to be able to pay this amazing looking game?

Here's a clip...

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 17 December 2007 05:46 (sixteen years ago) link

LZH is a very old archive format rarely used anymore, but Winzip should work. I just downloaded the demo (which I guess you have) to see, it should work with WinRar or 7-Zip. Grab the English patch here if you want to read the hyper-cutesy character dialogue, profiles and such.

Nhex, Monday, 17 December 2007 06:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks Nhex - I got it to work finally using WinRAr. Pretty crazy shooter on normal - I can't imagine the harder difficulties. The hit point is pretty small, mercifully...

I can't figure out how to get past the 10th level on this thing:

Has it been mentioned already? The original Crayon Physics demo (five or six levels) is well worth checking out. Very cool & I'm looking forward to the deluxe version. The first download mirror site didn't work for me, but the second did

Jeff LeVine, Saturday, 12 January 2008 21:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Holy crap, that cursor game is a brilliant idea.

Nhex, Saturday, 12 January 2008 23:33 (sixteen years ago) link

By the way, I hate this pj character for bringing up the topic of Desktop Tower Defense, which in the days since I opened this thread has consumed half the free hours of my life. AUGH.

paku paku is very fun. i think it would reach flappy bird levels of stupid/addicting viral simplicity by adding mute and pause buttons

z_tbd, Thursday, 4 January 2024 23:51 (three months ago) link

i know this is extremely beatable (even by me!) but after playing 10 times or so my hi score is about 3100. you get multipliers every time you pick up a power pellet so staying alive for an additional 30 seconds or so would probably quadruple that

If you somehow get goku, you can perform "his power level is increasing!" by continually plopping goku on top of goku
goku + time machine = trunks naturally.
