Only the Ravens could've fallen into a barrel of titties like that and come out sucking their thumb. (week 14 NFL thread)

i just sat through this slog of a game between sd and tennessee. it finally gets interesting on the last drive, rivers throws a fade to gates to tie it with 10 seconds left and then i get this message: "due to contractual obligations, we will now switch you to the kansas city vs. denver game."

DO NOT WANT.

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:15 (sixteen years ago) link

who knows anything about "nfl contractual obligations"? my local cbs affiliate being forced to switch out of sd-tn to bring me the start of ne/pit?

is this specifically cuz im in the pats home market (in hfd,ct) because i thought otherwise affiliates were supposed to get in conclusions of games even to the detriment of switching to a newly starting game? i dont care *that* much but just curious

yaahh, xp

horseshoe, Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:20 (sixteen years ago) link

id really like to watch jets-clev but not enough to go to a bar right now. also, it would be packed w/ insufferable pats and steeler fans

johnny crunch, Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:21 (sixteen years ago) link

i'd really not like to watch denver blow out kansas city, but what're you gonna do? this new england game seems interesting...

J0rdan S., Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:30 (sixteen years ago) link

could be a v. devastating loss if/when tenn loses

johnny crunch, Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Looks like they will, SD is in red zone.

Rock Hardy, Sunday, 9 December 2007 21:39 (sixteen years ago) link

i think we can anticipate a lot of "this is what good teams do" stories about the chargers.

yes, nfl contract states the home market won't miss any of their "home" game even if it's week 17 and two 16-0 teams are heading to overtime.

randy over the middle!

EAT IT COWHER!!!

chicago kevin, Sunday, 9 December 2007 23:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I GUARANTEE the pats are picking on smith now.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 9 December 2007 23:09 (sixteen years ago) link

seriously, that's twice they've torched him and they singed him on that first moss td.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 9 December 2007 23:09 (sixteen years ago) link

ball game.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 9 December 2007 23:41 (sixteen years ago) link

johnny crunch, Monday, 10 December 2007 00:11 (sixteen years ago) link

fuck, i got up to get a beer and now i've got clev-o/jests game. poop.

chicago kevin, Monday, 10 December 2007 00:18 (sixteen years ago) link

well, it wrapped up fast.

johnny crunch, Monday, 10 December 2007 00:21 (sixteen years ago) link

srsly this pats team are so beautiful to watch, i guess i have been anti-spoiled by the falcons or something.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Monday, 10 December 2007 00:24 (sixteen years ago) link

agree its pretty stunning. those two drives today even just like an incompletion seemed like an impossibility

johnny crunch, Monday, 10 December 2007 00:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Detroit's choke against Dallas was about as bad as the Ravens against NE. That defensive player for the Lions falls on that fumble and it is game over, but noooo he had to be like every other dork in the football follies and try and pick it up and run.

earlnash, Monday, 10 December 2007 00:40 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, i was watching that i thought "oooooh, i hope that doesn't come back to haunt them." but then i realized the game was over when hanson couldn't put the nail in the coffin.

chicago kevin, Monday, 10 December 2007 00:59 (sixteen years ago) link

i missed seeing tony romo, i wondered who the nbc nfl guys were talking about when they said they hadn't seen something like that since haight ashbury in the 60s.

pats are ridiculous. maybe next week they should play the whole game just passing it to welker. moss drops the flea flicker and.. touchdown.

daria-g, Monday, 10 December 2007 01:26 (sixteen years ago) link

it's 7 years or so into it and it still makes me laugh that the pats are thought of as a fucking model franchise. god, if you weren't around for the sullivan years you really can't appreciate this.

"jawdin mahsh cahr cahyre sennahs."

chicago kevin, Monday, 10 December 2007 01:46 (sixteen years ago) link

holy shit indy, should i even bother to watch any of this game?

daria-g, Monday, 10 December 2007 02:02 (sixteen years ago) link

i haven't even turned it on yet. what's going on?

chicago kevin, Monday, 10 December 2007 02:07 (sixteen years ago) link

hahaha this is kind of great. interception for touchdown, 3 & out, then the colts block the punt for a safety, making the record for most points in the first quarter ever. Nevermind that all 23 of them went completely unanswered.

El Tomboto, Monday, 10 December 2007 02:09 (sixteen years ago) link

still haven't turned it on. listening to the final solutions "songs by solutions" lp. goddamn why didn't i buy this sooner? really good.

chicago kevin, Monday, 10 December 2007 02:15 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah to see a 30-7 score w/ 9 mins to go in the 2nd when i turned it on was pretty o_O!!!

johnny crunch, Monday, 10 December 2007 02:33 (sixteen years ago) link

NO @ ATL

This could be one of the greatest rivalries in the NFL if both teams could be good in the same season. Or hell, EITHER team the way this year has gone.

hi brownie! BATTLE OF LAKE ERIE NEXT WEEK!

"It's almost like when you go to a pizza shop and you order your pizza, and you say I want extra sausage,'' said Patriots veteran safety Rodney Harrison, of the added motivation that Smith's guarantee inspired in New England's locker room. "There's nothing wrong with extra sausage.''

whut

J0rdan S., Monday, 10 December 2007 16:21 (sixteen years ago) link

there's nothing wrong with using a meaningless guarantee as motivation i think.

chicago kevin, Monday, 10 December 2007 16:38 (sixteen years ago) link

the analogy is a little off is what i was saying.

J0rdan S., Monday, 10 December 2007 16:43 (sixteen years ago) link

pro football player butchers english language, continuing coverage at 11.

chicago kevin, Monday, 10 December 2007 16:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Why'd he have to say "sausage" though instead of something like "cheese"?

Leee, Monday, 10 December 2007 17:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Ugh, this MNF game is nearly unwatchable so far.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 02:08 (sixteen years ago) link

And as soon as you say that, the Saints put together four sweet plays in a row for the score.

rogermexico., Tuesday, 11 December 2007 02:13 (sixteen years ago) link

Ha! Yeah, all it takes sometimes is for me to voice my displeasure with the current state of something and then it changes.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 02:28 (sixteen years ago) link

did anyone else cringe a little when arthur blank referenced mike vick eating fried chicken in prison?

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 02:55 (sixteen years ago) link

YES. I wonder if he'll take some heat for that. I know he just meant "poor prison diet" -- he should have just said that, I dunno if he was trying to spare the warden's feelings.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 03:08 (sixteen years ago) link

not anymore than I was just kind of cringing throughout that entire interview. kornheiser is so terrible. he hates football so much, you can practically smell it.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 03:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Kind of agree with you there; he has a constant look on his face like he's regretting doing the job.
